Summary: Kept me up reading till 2AM but somewhat predictable
Review: While this book kept me up reading till 2AM, the ending was something of a let down. I enjoy Patricia Cornwell (though lately she has really gone downhill) and I can see why so many people are making comparisons between Tempe and Kay Scarpetta.

Other customer reviews mentioned their annoyance with Tempe's habit of taking off to investigate by herself, which I shared. But I found her relationship with her male collegues very interesting and look forward to see it further developed in the next saga.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and would buy Ms. Reichs next book.

Summary: Very good story, but too much detail.
Review: I thought that this was a very good story. It was thrilling, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I do believe detail is very important to a story, but I felt there was just a little too much detail in this one. It was too long a read for me, usually it would not take me as long. I do look foward to reading the next Tempe Brennan story I enjoyed the character very much. I also I hope that Tempe and Ryan eventually get together, because I like the chemistry between the two.

Summary: A definite read for fans of Medical Detectives.
Review: This book is definitely better than Cornwell's recent , but don't just compare it to Cornwell. This book has a freshness and a technical depth that is authentic without being overwhelming It's nice to see a book set somewhere other than a major American city. This retired academic gives it two thumbs up.

Summary: Loved this book!
Review: It's unfortunate that new authors have to be compared to others instead of being allowed to stand on their own. Yes, Ms. Reichs has written a book similar to those written by Patricia Cornwall, who is a good author in this genre. If we must make comparisons, this book is as good if not better than the best Cornwall novel. I found the book engrossing, interesting and well-written. I look forward to more books by this author with this heroine and I hope that continued comparisons to others won't encourage her to change to unique style and perspective.

Summary: May sound cliche, but I couldn't put it down
Review: Sparing no cliche, I can safely say that Reichs had me on the edge of my seat, dying to know what would happen next. I picked up Deja Dead after a friend had recommended it, and began to read. I found that it was impossible to find a good stopping space in the book, since Reichs does an excellent job of creating a cliffhanger at the end of nearly every chapter. Looking into the life of forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan, the main character of the novel, was fascinating. The gore in sections of the book relating to her occupation may have been harsh, but hardly without basis. The autopsies performed by Brennan are central to the seemingly unrelated deaths, and are the foundation upon which her suspicions of a serial killer are built. Reading such detail led me to appreciate the novel more. After I read the brief bio of Reichs in the back of the book, my appreciation of her work was further magnified.

This book is an excellent summer read, and I recommend it highly. I was psyched to find out that Reichs will be publishing another Tempe Brennan book.

Summary: Tooo much french for me!
Review: I was so excited when I bought this book, I really thought it would be great. I do like Patricia Cornwell, however, I would like to have other alternatives in similar authors...but this one is not for me! I took french in college...or else I would not of been able to get through this novel. I think it would of kept my attention reinforced if only she has put as much effort into the 'medical' aspects of the novel as she did into the 'french' values and historical events of Quebec. I really tried to like this book, but I just couldn't get into it.

Summary: Good read. Good Mystery. Good Science
Review: Captivating and readable. I actually learned some forensic science.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: excellent first book...can't wait for her next one !!!
Review: Reichs has will hit the "big time" with her new novel. Those who love Cornwell will love Reichs. I can't wait until the nest "Tempe" book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great Potential, Less Than Great Book
Review: If Kathy Reichs can develop her writing talents a bit she should be able to write much better books than Patricia Cornwell. She certainly has a superior background (PhD in Forensic Anthrolopogy). The story is interesting and reasonably well written although it has a plot situation at the end that is far from original. Is the book too gory? I didn't think so. Reichs' impressive background would be wasted if she didn't bring some detail into the story. There is only one place where she loses control in this regard: a nine page analysis of the various cutting effects of saws on bone.

All in all I came to like our heroine Tempe Brennan, and would be willing to follow her on another adventure.

Summary: I will buy the next book
Review: I found Ms. Reich's technical descriptions to add an air of accuracy that drew me into the book. The characters were interesting and I look forward to learning more about them as they develop. My major frustration was the lack of common sense demonstrated by the heroine. She almost seemed to have suicidal tendencies as she went solo into dark and dangerous areas of town alone, even when she knew she was the potential target of a serial killer - strained the credibility a bit. Otherwise, enjoyable!
