Summary: Last chances and new beginnings -- Very highly recommended
Review: Stunned by the death of her beloved stepfather Lou, Hallie St. George desperately grieves her loss. Lou had been shot in the chest five times. While investigators dismiss his death as a burglary, Hallie has her own suspicions, confirmed when a friend passes her a key that unlocks the truth regarding corruption and drug dealing. When her ex-husband discovers her with the incriminating evidence, Hallie immediately flees with her young twins in a battered pickup truck, leaving behind bank accounts, her business, and her home.

Living out of a plastic suitcase and cheap clothes does not frighten Hallie. But her inability to care for her children and keep them safe does. While Hallie is long accustomed to independence, the danger threatening her and her children leaves her profoundly alone and vulnerable. When her truck breaks down in a snowstorm, however, misfortune leads her to a community where she will find love and acceptance, and a handsome man by the name of Chance Qualtrough.

Chance immediately suspects that Hallie is on the run. When she refuses charity, Chance suggests a place she can housesit and the waitress of The Last Chance Café offers her a job. Waitressing is a long way from being the chef of her own restaurant, but Hallie gratefully accepts. Soon her heart longs to put down roots in Primrose Creek, but with a vindictive ex-husband determined to find her, Hallie cannot trust her newfound friends with the truth, because the truth could get them all killed.

THE LAST CHANCE CAFÉ becomes a place of redemption and new beginnings with Linda Lael Miller's powerful pen. The vivid characterizations fill the novel with warmth, wit, and sensitivity. Hallie's need for community and connectedness makes her both believable and endearing. Chance gives the novel a deep tie to community and heritage, providing Hallie with the very things that were previously lacking in her life. In addition, Miller's talent excels with the seven year old twins. Whether they are petulant, sassy or charming, they are fully rounded characters. Secondary characters likewise sparkle, especially the wonderful romance between Jesse and the town vet -- a romance they thought they had concealed for thirty years. I confess to being a new fan of Miller's work, and although THE LAST CHANCE CAFÉ is part of an ongoing series, I delighted in reading it as a standalone. Very highly recommended.

Summary: A Wonderful Story
Review: The book was wonderful. It was well written and the characters well developed. I could picture Hallie biting her lip and tossing her hair back as if she were standing before me. Chance is everyone's knight in shining armor. I loved his character.

The story also has intrigue and mystery, which held my interest immensely. I loved the book. Buy it.

Summary: Some are not fortunate enough to have a last Chance
Review: There are some wrong doings dealing with the death of her step-father. The authorities said it was petty theft. A stranger shows up at the funeral telling her that is was murder and tells her there's a box that contains evidence of the fact. When locating the box, Hallie's husband appears demanding the box be turned over to him. She knows he's involved now. She feels the urgency to get out-of-town with the box, so Hallie O'Rourke grabs her 2 girls, jumps in a broken down truck and heads out with no more than the clothes on her back. Hallie ends up in Primrose Creek at The Last Chance Cafe during a snow storm after they have walked several miles. The truck is broke down, there's no money, no plans, and she's got 2 little girls that are hungry and scared.

Chance Qualtrough, single and a local rancher, takes one look at Hallie standing in the door of the cafe and feels the need to "take her under his wing." He offers to help her find a place to stay- thinking of his aunt's vacant house the whole time. The owner of the cafe offers Hallie a job of waitressing. Hallie decides to take both offers so she can "stop for a minute" and think about what her next move will be. And there is something about Chance that tells Hallie to trust hime and allow him to "protect" her and the girls. Instead of a night or 2 of rest and thinking, Hallie's stay turns out to be longer (there's peace here, could this be what she has been for). In the back of her mind she knows that her ex-husband is looking for her- she has something that is wanted by the possible murderer of her loved step-father, something that could ruin a man and career.

Chance has a home but it's lacking love and warmth. He thought he had found it one time, a long time ago, but it turned to someone else. Seeing Hallie and her girls, Chance faces his desire for love and a family. But can he trust Hallie with his heart and can he convince Hallie to trust him with her fears? And will Hallie's ex-husband be able to figure out where she and girls are? How is he involved?

I don't know what I expected- but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a really good book- one that will keep you interested to the end. It's more that a "sweet romance with a little suspence mixed in." Hallie and Chance's relationship touched my heart- their desire is so strong. I really enjoyed it and think you will, too. The ending is really good. I just hate that it took Hallie soooo long. I'll leave it at that for the reader.

Summary: The Last Chance Cafe by Linda Lael Miller
Review: This a a fast and furious read that leaves you spellbound as Hallie O'Rourke and her twin daughters race away from danger after Hallie's stepfather is murdered. Hallie ends up in Primrose Creek after her car breaks down and she and her daughters encounter The Last Chance Cafe during a snowstorm.

Chance Qualtrough, one hunk of a rancher,is concerned for Hallie and her kids and let's her stay in his aunt's house. Something about Chance makes her trust him and this begins one humdinger of story that never lets you go.

Great characters, intense suspense, and a delectible romance. Makes me want to read all the Primrose Creek historicals to find out about the ancestors! Wow, I'd better get busy.

Don't miss this book!

Summary: Great Read!
Review: This book was a great read, I read it in one sitting and loved it. I think that any fan's of romance should read this book!

Summary: Awful!!
Review: This book was so awful, if I could give it zero stars, I would. It is written like a cookbook from 1950...just the facts ma'am, and sugar coat it, please. Yuck! There was a potential here to have a gritty, real-life, scary situation in this book, and it was turned into the silliest piece of feel good fluff I have ever read.
The chemistry between the main characters is non-existent, suddenly they are in bed and I'm like, "What?". Not to mention that the heroine is a spineless ninny who allows every man who comes along to control her, save her, please! She is an awful example to her daughters, hopping in the sack with a near stranger as stress relief! Absolutely ridiculous.
I would not recommend this book!

Summary: Overpriced
Review: This book was worth [less]! For that kind of money I want a more convoluted plot and less filler. The main characters were likeable, the romance was good but the tension failed to build and the plot needed to be fleshed out. How and why did Hallie's stepfather start investigating her ex-husband? You never know. You also never know what the final outcome of the investigation was. Who went to jail? How many of the local cops were involved? The basic premise was quite good but the story seemed to stall and wind up too quickly. Even the fight scene and Chance's hospitalization lacked punch. I've read several of Ms. Miller's books and this one was not her best effort. She's capable of better things.
