Rating: Summary: The Perils Of Goldie Continue Review: It's 4:30 on a cold February morning. Goldie's husband, Tom, is out of town on police business. Someone shoots out the front window of the house. Not a pleasant way to wake up. The scene then shifts to a transplanted castle where Goldie has two scheduled catering events coming up. Descriptions of the old English castle were a little tedious in the beginning, but later proved to be essential to the mystery, so I'm glad I paid attention. A map would have been helpful. This was actually a very good mystery. Plenty of separate investigations for Goldie to pursue. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers here, that the characters do seem to be turning a little stale. I wish Goldie would stop referring to her ex-husband as The Jerk. It just seems rather juvenile. The recipes, as always, sound scrumptious. I didn't think I would be interested in recipes for the Elizabethan period, but Davidson has presented them in an updated form. For instance, Kidney Pie has been turned into Shakespeare's Steak Pie. I'm anxious to give that and the Plum Tart a try. I guess this would be described as a "cozy mystery". It was enjoyable, if not exactly riveting. As Goldie finds comfort in food prep, I find comfort in reading about it.
Rating: Summary: Puhleeeeeeeeease . . . Review: Love the recipes. Hate the ex-husband. This woman is getting like Jessica Fletcher -- you don't want her to visit because somebody is gonna die. Her front window is shot out. Her car window is shot out. Her son is still fragile and whiney. The ex-husband is at it again. Now there is a mysterious ex-girlfriend of the new husband. Julian, the vegan-chef-in-training, to the rescue. How much more can a person take? Now, the stamp thing was interesting, but that's about it.
Rating: Summary: Not her best but................. Review: reading about Goldy the caterer and her most unusual life is always entertaining. True, sometimes Goldy's behavior, as well as her son's, Arch, frustrate me but the characters are well developed now and I actually feel as if I know them all personally. And as for Tom, Goldy's husband, he sounds like just the kind of man most women would like to have in their life. He has been developed to be most appealing. Sticks and Scones doesn't have the same edge as some of Davidson's other books but I still devoured it quickly and attentively and I look forward to Goldy's next adventure.
Rating: Summary: Great Mystery Review: Things aren't going well for Goldie Schultz. Her catering business is slow, her husband is away on an assignment, her exhusband has been released from jail without the parole board notifying her as promised, and now someone has shot out her front window. Fortunately, her clients have invited her to stay with them in their authentic English castle. On the other hand, a couple she accused of child abuse after seeing the husband shake the child into unconsciousness, seem to be the castle owners' best friends and have the run of the castle, they even have keys! Goldie finds a dead body who turns out to be the fugitive her husband is looking for. He arrives at the scene, only to be shot in the shoulder. Is this enough action for anyone? This is all in the first couple of chapters.I have never read any of the books of this series before and I was very happy with this one. The characters were very well developed and interesting. The story line was very interesting and very fast moving. I will definitely read more of these mysteries.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites Review: This author is one of my favorites. I found this book to be one of the best books yet by her. I like the stories although they sometimes get a little bit depressing. Sometimes it seems that everything happens all at once to this poor caterer Goldy: death and murder, grouchy son, business in trouble etc. However, it all seems to even out in the end. I also like the recipes. I would suggest all of her books.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: This book does not live up to the standards set by the previous Goldy mysteries. They each behave as no reasonable person would...a caterer calling her client at 6 a.m. to say we're moving in? A wife leaving her shot and recuperating husband alone all day while she's out looking for clues? This book is full of such nonsense it makes us not care a bit about how it all turns out.
Rating: Summary: Sticks and Scones Review: This is the 10 book in a series and I'm not bored yet. Diane Mott Davidson is a truly good writer. I feel as though I know the characters and care about them. The descriptions are accurate. Fun to read.
Rating: Summary: Far-Fetched, But Entertaining..... Review: This one wasn't my favourite of the Goldie series -- but it was entertaining. And I am compelled to state here: I rarely read the reviews of fictional books (this time is no exception) before I've read the book because SO OFTEN (as occurs in this string of reviews) someone feels compelled to write out the entire plot except for the final final outcome - and that is SO irritating. It is like telling someone 90% of a movie's plot when you KNOW they've not seen the movie. PLEASE don't do that. Refrain yourselves from re-capping and summarizing the entire book okay??

Rating: Summary: A FUN READ - With Reservations Review: This was my first read from this author. I enjoyed the books but with some reservations. Some improbably plot twists made it sort of hard to swallow at times and the heroine, Goldie, is sort of over the top victom wise. The story twists from place to place, sequence to sequence, and if you do not pay attention, you can be lost rather quickly. All that being said, I do feel it is a fun read, if not examined too closely. I did enjoy the "food stuff" and the recipe attachment. I will probably read more of this series..hate not giving any author a chance. Anyway, this was a good way to kill a couple of evenings and is certainly better that most of what is on TV these days. All in all recommend.
