Summary: Redundance
Review: A summary of "the Hot Zone": Ebola and Marburg viruses are really scary and if they spread across the world it would wipe out the world.
That's about all the book tells you...just with different examples. Interesting for the first 75 pages...but after that its just same old story different day.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Sloppy drama
Review: The story is interesting by itself, but the writer kills and overkills again and again with lousy metaphors, overdramatized scenes and sometimes just plain filler. Somebody must have told him he needed to fill so many pages of what otherwise could have been a magazine article. A book where you can cut 75% without losing content is not a great one by any standard.

I give it two stars because the story is interesting, regardless of Preston's fluff.

Summary: Excellent, excellent book!
Review: A truly terrifying account of what lurks on the edges of the world. The story might have been a bit better with more explosions and car chases, though....

Summary: Hot Zone
Review: Not only did I enjoy it but everyone else who worked in the bookstore with me read and enjoyed it also. I could not put it down. Jaded with most thrillers and unable to stomach most best sellers, I was pleasantly surprised. Truth is better than fiction.

Summary: The Best
Review: The best book I have ever read in my life! So sick and freaky!
Nothing will stop it. Your worst fears will come true!

Summary: Thrilling Nonfiction With Vital Experience
Review: Hot Zone is one of the best nonfiction books I have ever read. It is like reading Tom Clancy or Michael Crichton. But the Ebola virus case contains vital lessons for our survival. Recent anthrax case which shook the world is only a few months back.

The lesson is: speed is vital to cope with the deadly virus case. First couple of Ebola cases which spread contamination might have been avoided if the virus carriers have been treated properly at the first sign of the virus infection. And to correctly identify the source of the epidemic and the name of the virus.

It is a good guidebook for us, ordinary citizens to understand the ABC of virus containment which can save our lives.

Summary: What a horrifyingly tremendous piece of work.....
Review: I first picked up the Hot Zone when a friend of mine was reading it. I didn't think it would be that great, I thought, "a virus, c'mon..." I was totally wrong. This was the best book I have ever read, honestly.. I didn't want it to end.. Even now, I sit and read it over and over again.. The first chapter is terrifying, and then it gets worse.. What a great book, the scariest thing is knowing that ebola really did come into Washington D.C. and it could happen again.

Summary: The Hot Zone review
Review: The Hot Zone Book Review
The Hot Zone, by Richard Preston is a horrific true story of the path of havoc of an unknown deadly virus. The plot follows the lives and deaths of Charles Monett, Nancy Jaxx and her family, Peter Cardinal, and the team of military scientists working to solve this mystery. The disease is spread though an unknown pass source, presumably from Africa to our homeland, Washington D.C. Panic stricken scientists and soldiers must control ans stop the spread of the disease before it spreads to the public. Each person gives a suspenseful and dramatic account of how the disease was contracted to how they either recover or give a gruesome description of their death.
The story follows the travels of scientists through out Africa, Kitum Cave, and Mount Elgon. Desperately trying to discover the source baffles the scientists, and they are running out of time as more and more people and monkeys are being infected. This "hot" virus must be contained before there are anymore "crashes."
The Hot Zone is a graphic and frightening page-turner. Virtually every chapter contains someone dying, being contaminated, or frantically trying to discover a cure. Three isn't a dull moment. If you like suspense, drama and a story more frightening than fiction, then I would recommend The Hot Zone.
Shocking, and sickening are the best words to describe this novel, I would not recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a stomach of steel. The story is fascinating, but it definitely takes a certain level of maturity to handle. In some parts, I didn't feel like I was ready to handle it! The novel changed my view on lethal diseases. I never thought they had hit so close to home. The facts are impossible to ignore, and impossible to forget. I was impressed by the story, but left with a reality shock of disturbing images which I could have done without.

Summary: Hot Zone Review
Review: If you enjoy graphic thrillers than you should read this book. The gruesome description of victims might be too much to take but your interest will make you turn the page every time. The Hot Zone is about the discovery of a "hot" virus that takes many lives. The scientists are trying to find out how it works anf if it's contagious or not. The author takes you from where it originates in Africa to our own capital in Washinton D.C.

If you like gore and can keep yourself from barfing every where than this is the book for you. This book will make you think and how easy it is for it to happen here. This book brings up awareness and the danger involved. Hot Zone was the best thriller for a long time. It sold really fast. The buyers realized how good the novel is and you should too. If you want to be sitting on the edge of your seat refraining from burping your lunch on your friend than you should defintely read this book. Detail brings out the worst in this virus.

This book relates to the events going on today. A terrorist might use a virus like this to create total anarchy. However, it would be fairly simple for one man to get a harmful virus in our country. This book will give you an idea on how deadly these viruses really are. You should be afraid, very afraid.

I totally recommend this book and hope that you get the opportunity to read it also. It made me feel that I knew a little more than I did before I read it.... That's the kind of description in the book. I am more of a man today than I was before I read this. I hope you buy this book. This book is HOT!

Summary: Evaluation of: The Hot Zone
Review: Evaluation of: The Hot Zone
The novel The Hot Zone took place in the early 1980's when a man named Charles Monet became ill with a the deadly virus called Ebola in Kenya where he lived and worked. He had recently visited a famous cave with his friend that had been suspected by researchers that may have been the cause of the appearance of the illness. He flew to the United States for help by some professional doctors. The disease increased becoming more of a fatality for Charles Monet. He went through a series of stages causing him to become closer to death. He infected a doctor who was trying to help him in the emergency room and possibly some people that were around him. The Ebola virus caused Charles Monet to get a severe headache, nausea, and get a fever. The later stages are constantly throwing up blood and hemorrhaging that soon causes death. Year's later; scientists tested the Ebola virus as well as the Mar burg virus on monkeys. The virus was under control for a while until it soon traveled through the air and infected the entire building. The scientists couldn't stop it nor cure it. Many of them as well as innocent people caught the virus and died shortly. In the later 1980's the virus suddenly died down and hasn't been seen since. These viruses today still haven't been cured for people who have been infected by it, but scientists are still researching. So far no evidence of the virus has been detected.
I felt this novel was very explanatory and a book I would always recommend. It had so much detail that I couldn't consume enough of it. "Pools of blood spread around him, enlarging rapidly." (Preston 24) Reading those words as well as the rest of the page made me fully visualize the incident in a way I never imagined. "Staring at the worms...they saw snakes, pigtails, branchy, forked thing..." (Preston 117) As I read on, I felt my skin creeping up because the thought of being within any distance of the virus would probably cause me to go into shock.
I recommend The Hot Zone to those who are around the age of twelve and older because it is a very intense book that you can learn a lot from if you are in that area of studying viruses. It will leave you under the covers at night, but will intrigue you to read on because this is a true story that will always be remembered for the virus can erupt again someday. This novel would be of good use if someone is doing a research project on the Ebola or mar burg virus and the people who were involved with it as well because it holds a large quantity of information.
