Summary: A Shakesperean Tragedy for the little guy
Review: This was a fantastic play. Even though the play was sad and depressing I was able to overlook that fact because Arthur Miller was able to present this story in such a powerful and well-written manner. Other playwrights could not have pulled off what Miller was able to do so brilliantly in 'Death of a Salesman'. Miller is able to make people identify with Willy Loman and maybe even Willy's son, Biff. This play shows perfectly how a nice, honest, hard-working family man can work hard his entire life, have very little to show for it, and then be discarded like an orange peel. When Willy shouted to his boss, "A man is not a piece of fruit", I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Definitely read the play. Whether you like it or not you'll definitely be moved by the time you're finished reading.

Summary: great story, but requires much patience
Review: This is, without a doubt, an outstanding piece of literature, beautifully written and well executed by author Arthur Miller. While it is a deeply moving play, you MUST allow yourself time to feel it and understand it fully. I wasn't even completely into the story when I reached the middle. It takes time....but it's a great story that I came to appreciate very much. It follows the older life of Willy Loman, who truly lives up to his name, which can be likened to "LOW-MAN." Willy has two children, Happy and Biff, and a passive wife named Linda. Having said this, it is important to remember that Willy is ashamed of Biff, and he walks all over Linda. Happy falls somewhere in-between. He certainly isn't perfect, but he's managed to stay away from Willy's psychotic insults. Willy is a struggling salesman who wants nothing but money, success, and worldwide fame. His desire for these things is so intense, it kills him. This is definitely a very original and well thought out story, and it will leave you with mixed emotions. A part of you may even feel pity for Willy, hard as it may be to believe that. He is an unforgettable character. I definitely recommend this one.

Summary: Karie's Review
Review: Being a high school student I may not know a lot about life, because I have been living for 18 years. But, I do know that life and the facts of life are written about the play Death of a Salesman. Being alive used to be about living the "American Dream", nice house, cars, and a loving family that loved you and shared affection 24/7. In the play Death of a Salesman Willy tries to have his own "American Dream", but it is constantly shut down by bills, work and his son Biff. This play represents how the "American Dream" can ruin your life and even drive you crazy.

Summary: Death Of A Salesman
Review: When I read this play, I didn't like it at all. I didn't even like the story line. I don't think it has much of a point to it except for some hidden concepts about the American Dream that half of our society wouldn't even understand. The movie was a little better, just because it was easier to follow and understand. You didn't have to be confused and think so hard about it. While it does include information about the American Dream, it does give the reader enough to enjoy it a little. I like it to an extent, but not enough to consider reading it again. The main thing I liked about the play and movie was the relationship between Biff and Willy. The two got together and the drama started, they were so much alike that they were incompatible.

Summary: Christina's Thoughts on Death of a Salesman
Review: A death of a Salesman recieved three stars from me. This book was very complicated, but yet was still very good on a reality level. Willy Loman A trustworthy old man who has been working for his company for 63 years, has turned a little crazy. He now hears voices and sees things that aren't there. Willy Loman has a wife Linda and two boys Biff and Happy. Biff and Willy argue a lot through out the story. I believe Biff has hatered towards his father because he found his father with another woman. Willy ends up losing his job and at the end of the story Willy takes his own life. Overall the story was good and recommended fro young adults to adults.

Summary: "Death of a Salesman" movie vs book
Review: "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller is a well developed, well thought out play. Dustin Hoffman made it that much better in the movie version. He plays Willy Loman, the main character, who is going senile. He continuously has flashbacks about his past with friends and family. I liked the movie better than the play itself. I think the play was wonderfully written with a lesson, "don't always follow your insticts, sometimes friends have better advice." The play "Death of a Salesman" was more confusing to interpret what was going on because there were so many different things going on at once and the reader has to visualize what is going. In the movie, it's right there so viewers can understand it.

Summary: Death of a Salesman -- A High School Prospective
Review: From Christine Nesteruk
"Death of a Saleman"
Death of a Saleman is about an ordinary man leading an ordinary life. Willy Loman lived the life that most are destined to live. Few people ever achieve fame, success or recognition for their earthly deeds. Perhaps the reason so many people find the play sad is because this unfortunate story reveals the truth about the life the majority of people live. Most of us settle into a fearful, boring existence just to get by. His suicide may be the most extraordinary act he committed.

Summary: a lesson learned
Review: Death of a Salesman was confusing to read as a play, but better understood when seen acted out. Willy Loman's flashbacks caused much of the confusion, but opened many doors for the reader to see who Willy was. This story made me look at success in a completely different way. I once thought like Willy; success is seen through material things, but now I see the ignorance in that thought. Now I see that success can be seen in how hard you work and how happy you are. This play will never grow out-dated. It holds many themes and experiences that people will go through forever.

Summary: Just Another American Dream Crashed
Review: "Death of a Salesman" was about the American Dream. Every American wants to be successful. As for Willy Loman, the main character, is never very successful of happy. Because he is never successful, he thought that it would be better for his family if he were to commit suicide. That way they would get his insurance money. The play is an example of another American dream gone wrong.
I really like this play. It is very easy to read and sright to the point. The play showes that the American dream is not at all what it is cut out to be.

Summary: "Death of a Salesman" from Japanese eyes
Review: This play continues to attract international audience. In Japan, there are so many Willy Lomans under long-term recession. To my surprise, the top reason of death for Japanese men from 30's to 50's years old is committing suicide. Last year, I watched Japanese version of "Death of a Salesman" in Tokyo. Famous and talented actor as the role of Willy greatly fascinated audience. It was very rare to get a big hit here in these days.

Through watching and reading this play, I felt this play told us not to end up our lives by committing suicide, but to become stronger so as to find out another option by ourselves to survive in this severe world. This is not simply an old story. We must take Miller's important message to heart.
