Summary: The fall of an old man who failed to fulfill his dreams.
Review: Arthur Miller has eloquently created a protagonist who has been churned by the ill system. Willy Loman who realizes that his whole dream has turned into a nightmare chooses to commit-suicide. Yet, has he achieved to change the mere truth? Biff and Happy , will they ever recover from the bitter reality. Their father is just a simple example , however , on second thought we all know that salesman confront difficulties in their old days. What we earn for a living in our young days may be sufficient but its the future we must think of , seriously. The burden of our disabled times should be insured by the state and we must dream of illusions that our not far beyond our reach. Otherwise, the fall is inevitable , just like it is in the Loman's. Sad and tragic.

Summary: A really boring play!
Review: Even though this play is really short, it took me a long time to read because it was extremely difficult for me to make myself read it. It was difficult to tell the difference from the past and the present at times. Don't read this play unless you actually have to!

Summary: Death of the American Dream
Review: The play, "Death of a Salesman", by Arthur Miller, is a classic representation of the strife that the so-called pursuit of the American Dream can bring. The main character of the play is Willy Loman, who is found trapped by his old fashioned beliefs of how the business world should operate. It is found in the play that often times a smile and good appearance is not enough to get the job done. Willy was never successful in fufilling his ultimate dream of becoming a successful salesman. While he tried to attain his dream, he began to realize that his family life was unraveling. He was a victim of the "Heratio Alger" mentality, which stated that success would come to those who pursued their goals diligently. As high school students, we found the issues brought up in the play to be extremely relevant to everyday life. People like Willy are very common in today's society, in which people try so hard and still have troubles taking care of their family and fufilling their responsibilities. For a man that places so much importance on being successful it is hard for Willy to deal with the consequences he is faced with when his dreams fail to come true. The American Dream for some people is not easy to attain. This play is a good example of the everyday struggle that people face when trying to live up to something that they are not. Whether Willy liked it or not, he could not achieve the level of success and recognition he would've wanted for himself and his family. The true tragedy of the play is the gradual decline of which the Loman family is faced with. Some people have touble surviving in today's society becuase they just don't have what it takes to stay in the game. This play makes you think about the value that our society places on something we know we cannot attain. We felt that this play was informative and offered an in-depth look at the obstacles that people face when trying to attain something that is important for themselves to achieve. We would recommend this play to people who want to pursue a certain goal in life. It shows the struggle of a man with a good heart, who in the end has nothing but his life insurance to show for it. We must ask ourselves then, what it is that makes a man successful. Perhaps after reading this play the reader will begin to realize that there is more to life than the American Dream.

Summary: contrasting the performance and the book
Review: I saw the current broadway performance before reading it, and am very glad I did because if I hadn't I would have been extremely confused as to what was going on. I highly recommend seeing it on broadway and also reading it, because Brian Dennehy does a fantastic job of Willy and just gives him so much character. I'm sure Dustin Hoffman (I hope thats who did it but I'm not sure) was great too, but Dennehy has an enormous amount of stage presence. My only complaint about the book is that it is a little hard to follow. But other than that it is wonderful.

Summary: The American Dream Shot Down
Review: I recently watched the movie in my college American Literature class. I enjoyed it so much that I went out and got the play so I could write my term paper on it. Willy shows all people that the "American Dream" of getting rich quick and easy is nothing more than a dream(literally in this story). How did Willy expect to get by, on his good looks and charm? We could all learn a very valuable lesson from this masterpiece!

Summary: Intresting.
Review: I had to read this for my english class this year, and it definitely wasn't what I expected. I had read it once before, and I just couldn't understand it. Willy skipped from dreams to reality so much, I couldn't keep 'em straight. When I read it out loud with my english class, I got to really know the whole cast, and now I truely understand it. I like the play alot now. I hope to see it on Broadway also. I recommend this book, and if you don't understand it, read it again.

Summary: A book that makes you feel connected to the characters
Review: I thought that I wasn't going to like reading a story in play form. I have always stayed away from it, but I'm glad I took the chance with a play and with Death of a Salesman. This book was so emotional and really made me feel like I was in the story. My heart felt for Biff when he discovered his father's secret. It was a wonderful story of secrets and forgiveness. Willy just wanted to start new, the garden symbolizing this in the story. It was beautifully written and I enjoyed it very much.

Summary: best play of the century
Review: No other book captures the corruption of the American Dream like this one, not even The Great Gatsby. The motifs that were used in nearly every part of the book was both appropriate and essential to the eventual suicide of Willy Loman. Although many people may not be satisfied with the ending, it is still a powerful piece of work that deserves to be read by everyone.

Summary: a story about the common worker with only a dream
Review: The entire story was very plain except for the ending which twisted in the most dramatic of ways. I would imagine the performance would affect peoples lives much more than the book

Summary: Perspective on play!
Review: I had a sense like the narrative perspective of this play was rather choppy and confussing. Athough this eventually lead to a somewhat understanding of life changes and discontentments of Willy (the main character) and his family. The effect of this liturary use of writting later lead me to thoughts of the possibility of Willy having Dementia. now correctly labeled as Alzheimers disease. Or quit simply dismay and discust over lost dreams, never brougt into play but contiually acted upon in his minds eye.

I feel like the development in this play is more hanging in between direct and indirect. Willy is more aloof, seemingly unaproachable. By increasingly drawing further away from life, talking to himself and fading away inexplicably from society. Towards the end Willy ultimataly finds himself going to and fro from peculiur awarness into hallusination. This leading to his Suicidal attempts and eventual succeding in the last try.

The tone is set through a series of dreary situations. They are nonchanging and leave a very distinct flavor to this piece. In the conveying of this play Arther Miller, the auther, used many methods such as showing the up's and downs which together are classic symptoms of depression. I do not sugggest this play although it did deserve more then just one star so I put two!
