Summary: Lacking, No Love Story Here
Review: SEP waited to long to write a sequel to all the other "Chicago Stars" So it was hard to have total recall of the other characters mentioned in the story that appeared in the other stories. (It Had To Be You, Heaven Texas, Nobody's Baby But Mine and Dream A Little Dream). Molly acted like a child herself most of the time. And her children book characters kept popping up everywhere which gets old real fast. As for Kevin, it was very hard to believe he played football. There isn't a football player I'v seen who would live in "paintbox cottages". He acted like a dork, but at least he looks great in a t-shirt
Molly and Kevin are hard to believe were a couple. They just didn't click. Not one of SEP best, but please don't let this book turn you off on SEP's other books or books let to come. It's hard to keep a series going that long. As least SEP gave it her best shot.

Summary: This Heart of Mine touched my heart and made me smile!
Review: Molly Somerville has done some crazy things in the past, but this time she's gone too far. She's dyed her hair red and crawled into bed with Kevin Tucker, a man who doesn't even know her real name. Circumstances force Molly and Kevin into more togetherness than either of them want, and slowly they begin to discover that there's more going on than just circumstances...there's something special, something big...could it be love?

Susan Elizabeth Phillips is an author who always makes me laugh even as she pulls on my heart-strings. This Heart of Mine was no exception...in fact, it was exceptional!

Summary: A Dud from Susan E?
Review: I have been a long time fan of Susan E and will willingly gush about "Heaven Texas" and "It Had to Be You", the predecessors of this novel. Five years ago a girlfriend and I predicted that Kevin and Molly would get together, so needless to say I've been anticipating the release of this book for quite some time.

To be honest it was as if Molly was a new person. As a child in "It Had to Be You" she came across as intelligent and independent. I was surprised that in this book her character is so silly and childish. I was put off by the bunny slippers, the children's books, and the parent-child relationship that she STILL has with Phoebe. She was too immature and dependent. (Ex. NO BIRTH CONTROL!)

The romance itself was also a disappointment. I did not like the forced sex beginning or the fighting. It made their eventual relationship seem unlikely.

Summary: Very disapponting ending
Review: This book really falls apart at the end. It starts to drag and gets pretty ridiculous.

Summary: Stale Story
Review: This is only the third SEP book that I have read and already I'm finding that she's basically writing the same story just with different titles. I have to agree with another reviewer about Molly and Kevin having no chemistry whatsoever. They fought and had sex, but there really was no understandable reason for them to have a "Great Love" as described in the book. It really seemed like Kevin settles for Molly as the pieces of his life fall into place. Another major problem I have with SEP's writing is that she always interjects another love story apart from the main love story. This irritates me, because I feel like I'm reading two books at once. This dual love story makes the reading of the book choppy and really lessens the main love story. I just think it's superfluous page-fillers. Moreover, it's always the same formula: the main love story has the reluctant male and the secondary love story has the reluctant female who is usually the mother of the reluctant male. For those looking for a better SEP book, try "Heaven Texas," if you can find it.

Summary: A Page Turner
Review: I have never been a reader of romance novels, but this book pulled me and wouldn't let go! Susan Elizabeth Phillips took two very different characters and showed how they could come together in love. I picked up the book by chance while on a cruise (I wanted to read something on deck to relax) and had never heard of Susan Phillips. I was quickly drawn into the plot of a star football player and an author of children's books. I could easily relate to all the characters and found myself turning page after page wanting to know what happened next. Needless to say, it took weeks to recover from the sunburn I received when I lost track of time reading this book--but it was worth it!!

Summary: The first SEP book I read and still one of my favorites
Review: I guess the title of my review states it. By the end, I liked it well enough to first reread it and subsequently read almost all of her other books. The characters were so human, it was easy to start feeling close to them.

For instance, those of you who do NOT have model-perfect figures, have you ever had to deal with body-image insecurity? (Lilly) Or have you ever thought of having a makeover but didn't do it because you knew it wouldn't "fix" what was "wrong" with your life? (Molly, at the vacation home) Or concentrated solely on your career or something else because doing that was easier than trying to sort out emotional issues? (Kevin)

By the way, for the reviewers who couldn't figure out why Molly started fantasizing she was someone else during the long-awaited love-scene with Kevin: The book actually explains it. If she was "Molly" she'd have to stop Kevin and put her clothes back on because "Molly" isn't self-destructive and she believes pursuing this relationship is going to end up with her being hurt. Pretending that she was a "slave girl" and he was a "sultan" was her way of allowing herself to enjoy what was happening, not a way of dissociating!

My other favorite SEP book is Kiss an Angel. I guess what both books have in common, even though the characters are very different, is how the main characters change and grow. By the end, you're just cheering for their "triumphs" and so sad to see the story end.

Summary: Good start but drifted off Topic...
Review: This is the first book I have read by SEP. It was good and kept my interest throughout, but I did think it drifted off topic near the middle somewhere. I also have to agree with the other reviewers about Molly being stuck in a 'fantasy world' and in need of some kind of shrink, lol. She had some issues that needed tending, and her love, or as I thought, her obession with Kevin wasn't going to fix it.
His character was alright, but he also had issues that weren't really explained or dealt with and I felt as if I never really understood them or why they ended up together. I was convinced she fell in love with him but not he with her. There was too much conflict that had nothing to do with them near the middle that when the romance started to develop I had a hard time following. There was a lot of humor that I love in romances and witty dialog that I enjoy, but the plot was sort of weak for my tastes.

~Molly Somerville has a reputation for trouble. She gave away her fifteen million dollar inheritance on a whim and went to living from pay check to pay check writing children's stories. She is happy though, content...except when her long term crush on Dallas Stars quarterback Kevin Tucker comes breezing back in town like a tornado. The man can't even remember her name and she finds herself still panting after him...pitiful, but true she decides.
Not long afterwards they are forced to get to know each other and being her reckless self, she does something very very stupid that alters her life and his forever...after the storm abades, they go their separate ways. Each wondering about the other and wondering what if?

Kevin doesn't need anymore problems in his confusing life, but when his bosses sister stirs up a major pot of trouble for him, he thinks his life is over. Soon heartbreak follows, leaving him free to live again, but he can't stop thinking about her. What if things turned out the way they had been going until then? On a whim, he kidnaps her and takes her to his childhood camp that his family passed to him, full of memories he'd rather forget than relive. Hoping just to cheer her up after everything that happened, he finds himself needing her.
Sometimes love hurts and sometimes it saves, in this case it does both when an aging sexpot actress shows up with a surprise that Kevin cannot deal with and he finds himself falling in love with the essentric Molly. Can he forget his past and accept Molly's love? Can he truly love someone? Can Molly's fear of not being perfect ruin their chances at happiness?
There are parts that will make you laugh out loud and some that will make you somber. A perfect mix. I found out that this is a series and Molly's sister Pheobe is the main character in another book called "It Had to be You" which I NEED to pick up! I loved her character even more than Molly's and I am dying to read her story.

Summary: Waste of My Money
Review: I am usually a big fan of SEP, but was truly disappointed with this book, for several reasons. I found it was just not up to par with all her other books and wonder what happened.

Firstly, I liked neither of the main characters. Molly acted like a teenager, and I was left cringing after the scene where she "rapes" Kevin. I could have gotten into Kevin, but I think SEP did not delve enough into his mind and feelings, and I feel he could have been explored more thoroughly. I agree with others who have said that there was little chemistry between the two, at least not until so far into the book that I was already disposed to think that they were truly a mismatched couple.

I also don't recall reading much "romance" in the book, and I feel the conflict(s) overshadowed the romance in the story. ...I don't want to read about all the current problems, I read to get away from all that and escape. A little bit is ok just to add conflict and add to the story, but when it eclipses the romance, there is a problem. Aside from this, I was truly offended by something in the book, which made me even less disposed to like it.

The only saving grace of the novel, as far as I was concerned, was the secondary romance between Kevin's mother and the artist. There was passion and chemistry between those two that didn't exist between the main characters.

All in all, I am disappointed that I wasted my time and money on this book, and it is questionable if I will read more by SEP in the future.
