Summary: Elsie Dinsmore, A Life of Faith
Review: A beautifully moving book that allows the reader to jump head first into another world, a world in which slavery was accepted and children learned their lessons by heart. I've read this aloud to my sixth grade students during our study of the south and it gave them the perspective of one who lives there. The characters are realistic and Elsie is a great role model for today's youth.

Summary: A modern-day classic!
Review: As an avid reader of children's literature, I was thrilled to find that Mission City Press had taken the essential elements of Ms. Finley's much-admired books and updated them for modern readers. Ordinarily I am not a fan of "revisions" but these are so well done as to actually improve on the originals! (There are family trees, historical forewords and add'l info. in the first four books of this series that I have read - most helpful!) For fans of Dear America, American Girls, Christy, Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables and Little Women - I can assure you that this first book in the terrific series is in their fine company. I highly recommend their website as a safe, entertaining and uplifting place for girls to ask question, learn crafts and Scriptures, and grow in their Christian faith - and it's so beautiful and fun! ... I cannot say enough about these fascinating "can't put 'em down" books and how relevant they are to girls and young women today. Keep at it, Mission City Press - can hardly wait for Books 5 and 6 in the series - plus the Christmas book and journal!

Summary: My new best friend!
Review: Elsie Dinsmore is a memorable character and the story has real drama. I like books like this like Little House on the Prairie and Christy that make you feel like you are in a different time in America (the South in 1800s). Elsie is a brave girl and her faith in God helps me. The other books get even better! I recommmend this whole series to any girl who wants a book that is fun to read and important to her heart. Book One is the saddest but there all good (website is awesome too! )

Summary: A Must-Read
Review: ELSIE'S ENDLESS WAIT is about a young girl of eight, by the name of Elsie, who has a tremendous Christain faith. Elsie's father has been in Europe since before she was born, and she dreams of meeting him and knowing the love of a parent. For Elsie's mother had died shortly after her birth so Elsie was put in care of her grandfather and step-grandmother. When Hoarce, her dad, comes home though, Elsie is devistated at his harshness toward her. The only thing that loves her is her servant, the woman who was her companion from day one of life.
I loved this book because it is full of emotion as it tells the heartbreaking story of a girl's longing for love. Through all her troubles she turns to the Lord. Her understanding of the Holy Bible is beyond her years and absolutely nothing can shake her faith. Through that faith she is forgiven of her sins time and time again, and also forgives others in an attempt to be like Jesus. This book helped enrich my relationship with the Lord so much and challenges me to be more like Him.
I have read a great number of books but have found none as enjoyable as this one. This is truly and amazing book and I would highly recommend it to any girl.

Summary: Martha Finely - Woman of God!
Review: Elsie's Endless Wait, based on the novel Elsie Dinsmore, by Martha Finely, is a delightful fiction story set in the early 1800s, telling of a little girl named Elsie Dinsmore, and her impeccable faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Motherless only a few days after her birth, and living with her grandparents since age four, Elsie has never met her father. This little girl yearns for an earthly father's love, yet comforts herself with the knowledge of a heavenly Father who holds her as dear as any other.

"Yes ma'am. He's in Europe. He has been away since I was born, and I've never seen him. Oh, I do wish he'd come! I want to see him so much! Do you think he will love me, Miss Allison?" Ah, what a disappointment awaited her! On returning from his extended vacation, Horace Dinsmore Jr., Elsie's father, treats Elsie coldly and sternly. Still, with the everlasting comfort of her heavenly Father, Elsie goes on with the hope that someday her "papa will love her". After the near death of Elsie, Horace Dinsmore finally discovers what a great treasure he has in his child. Now although still treated sternly, Elsie is also treated lovingly.

As the story ends, both her heavenly and earthly father love little Elsie Dinsmore. It is without a doubt true that "all things work together for good to them that love God." Yet, life cannot go without many a difficult trial. Elsie's papa is not a Christian, and the dread of the day when Elsie's strict observations of God's rules and the haughty pride of Horace Dinsmore clash, lingers dangerously in the air.

I have never read a better book. It was so touching, and so inspiring. This book is, without a doubt, my very favorite book. I have read it twice already! Through this books, and other books in the series, my faith in God has been strengthened greatly. Elsie is a wonderful role model for today and tomorrow!

Martha Finely had written many books including books from the Millie Keith series. She is truly a woman of God, and it shows. In every page of the book, it is shown how much she loved God and wanted others to know Him as their personal Lord and Savior. Read these books, and you shall be touched deeply by the Holy Spirit, and your faith in Him Who loves us strengthened.

Other recommended books: Millie Keith series, original Elsie Dinsmore series, and rest of revised Elsie Dinsmore series.
