Rating: Summary: "Mandy" is a wonerful adventure! Review: Mandy is a heartwarming story about an orphan who finds a special place to call her own. I read this book many times as a child, and my daughter has just read it and loved it too!
Rating: Summary: The very best "children's book" I have ever read. Review: This is one of my top 10 favorite books ever. I first read Mandy when I was 11 or so and I've read it over and over since then. I've given this book to 6 nieces and each one has loved it as well. A young English girl, a secret cottage, different flowers she plants, and odd English foods (to an American) she snacks on all add up to a book one could read over and over. I only wish J.A.Edwards wrote more for this age group. It's a beautiful story you'll never forget. You'll find yourself thinking of people you'd like to give it to - and not necessarily children!
Rating: Summary: This is a book that I think about often, 20 years later!!! Review: I read this book when I was 10 while listening to Elton John's "Empty Garden". Every time I hear that song, I remember "Mandy". I became Mandy and I can still see that beautiful cottage. I loved this book and urge anyone to read it!
Rating: Summary: A great escape for a child Review: This was a book I read over and over as a young girl. I was totally transformed into Mandy as I read, imagining I was her taking care of the cottage she found in the woods. I liked to spend time alone and this book was definitely something that spoke to me.
Rating: Summary: I read this book three times in a week! Review: I read this book three times in 8 days some time. I loved it so much!! Now that I'm older, it seems pretty young, but I would definitely recommend it to younger children. It really picks up on the theme of kids wanting their own place. All I ever had was a fort on the bottom of my bunk-beds, and I dreamed for years after reading "Mandy" that I was she and had my own cottage. It's one of my favorite children's books!
Rating: Summary: It is a wonderful book esp if you yourself have been adopted Review: My best friend gave me this book for my 13th birthday (now 33) and of course she knew that I was adopted. It is really a beautiful book and story and I can't remember how many times that I cried because it really touched home. Right into the very heart of what a child like this feels. Julie Edwards (Andrews) did a wonderful job in writing this story, I just love it, but I have lost the copy my friend gave me in all the moves I have done and really must get the hard back forever keeping.
Rating: Summary: Mandy is a great book.About a girl who finds a cottage. Review: Mandy is a wonderful book.If you enjoy finding new placescalling it your own special place where nobody lives, then this is abook you should read. I know a good book when I see one. It should be a Newberry.
Rating: Summary: Julie Andrews did a terrific job! Review: I first read this book in third grade and I adored it. I loved the details, I loved the story, it was just an excellent book! I never thought about the author until just today reading a newspaper article about celebrities who write childrens' stories and saw that Julie Andrews wrote a book called Mandy. I went back and checked the author of the book and I was shocked. She did an excellent job, this is still one of my favorite books.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: Even in second grade, I could fully understand this book and its plot. The author chose great words and shows quite a bit of talent. The story of a 10-year-old orphan who finds a cottage over the high stone wall and devotes all her free time to restoring it and the garden. To keep her secret, she lies and even steals. This book is exciting and good for readers of all ages.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent book for young people to read! Review: I first read "Mandy" in 5th grade and I absouletly loved it! My eyes were glued to the book right to the very end. It is about a girl who climbs over the wall of her orphanaage home. She finds an old cottage that she starts to take care of like her own. She earns enough money to buy flowers, but eventually starts stealing things from the orphanage and store! But one night Mandy goes to the cottage very sick. What will happen to her? That is for you to find out. I loved this book and I hope you choose to read it!!
