Summary: It was everything I expected from Michael Connelly
Review: I have been lucky to read all of Harry Bosch's experiences in order and I am ready for more. I think I know who the villian is and I change my opinion many times before the end. This was one of the best so far!

Summary: Boring
Review: Wake me when it's over. The author was sleeping through this one. Worse than grass growing.

Summary: What Does Bosch Do During His Time Off?
Review: He goes out and solves a murder case that's what he does. On involuntary leave for punching out his lieutenant he tackles the unsolved mystery of who murdered his mother 30 years ago. If you like police procedurals that have an air of verisimilitude about them you are always safe plunging into a Michael Connelly novel. I just finished a faux police procedural written by JA Jance, and the difference between the two writers is amazing. Connelly seems to have lived in the police department (like Daley, Caunitz, Dee, and Mahoney), while Jance's knowledge of police operations seems to have been gained when she was ticketed for jaywalking.

The poor writers have their cases solved by talking to one witness or relative of the victim, who gives a lead on another person to talk to, who gives another lead on another person, and on goes this chain. Connelly deals a lot with evidence. Nice curious, strange pieces of evidence. Makes things much more interesting and challenging.

Summary: A prostitute's murder-long ago-but it was Harry'mother!
Review: It's time in Bosch's life to blow the leaves off his mother's grave, loosen the dirt around it and dig deep for the answers not only to his mother's murder, but to many of his problems resulting from his insecure childhood. This is helped by the fact that he is suspended for pushing a superior through a plate glass window and sent to a police shrink. While he is on forced leave, he decides to resolve these problems, of course, against all company policy. But his view is "Everybody counts or nobody counts." As he unravels the mystery, it seems to him that the murder of his mother didn't count because she was just a woman of the streets. Both this theme and the theme of a reappearing coyote (lost, hungry and bewildered) occur again and again in this gripping, forceful novel. The coyote and Bosch are drawn together - like to like - and it seems to Bosch that both he and the coyote are a vanishing breed. I defy you to put Connelly's book down for more than a few hours, if at all.

He is a master of twists, surprises and impeccable logic that carry you to the end in a whirlwind of pleasure and excitement. This one has a finish that is amazing and shocking. It's content will stay with you a lone time, perhaps forever,as you contemplate this world and those who live in it everyday. I maintain the best way to read Bosch is from the beginning with THE BLACK ICE - and follow in sequence. Michael Connelly has now won three awards for his novels. Everytime I think I have found my favorite another comes along to show me there cannnot be one favorite - only Michael Connelly himself, as a talented and intriguing artist. Angels Flight is the next in the series. His non-Bosch novels, The Poet and Blood Work are other extremely fine examples of his genius.

Summary: Very good book - ending a bit weak
Review: Again an absolute must for mystery readers. Bosch is digging in his past, in his roots. What he finds is depressing, but it helps him too. It is a novel full of tension. But the ending is not so good. A man like Harry Bosch should be able to cope with what he found. He is not someone who cracks too easily. Or does Michael Connelly want to forget him?

Summary: A gripping, wonderful tale of crime and mystery
Review: After being hooked onto Michael Connelly after reading "The Poet", I began "The Last Coyote" and instantly thought that this one was better. The mystery involving the murder of his prostitute mother decades ago is solved by Harry Bosch after he is on an involuntary leave from the police force. The identity of the killer was a complete surprise at the end, and the confrontation between Bosch and his prime suspect was chilling. This is one of my favourite novels and anyone who likes the mystery/crime genre should most definitly read this.

Summary: A Man on a Mission
Review: I enjoyed this Harry Bosch mystery alot. I did not enjoy it as much as the previous two Bosch books but that is hardly a major criticism. Connelly has fleshed out the Harry Bosch character quite well in this cop/psychological thriller. After Harry loses his cool and attacks his boss he gets suspended and sent to the department shrink. During this suspension Harry decides to investigate the thirty year old unsolved homocide of his mother. Connelly succeeds on several levels with this book. First this is an excellent police procedural. Second, Connelly has Harry wrestling with his demons while investigating his mother's homocide. This really broadens the character of Harry Bosch. I also like the character of Jazz who is Harry's love interest. My major complaint about the novel is that there is one to many plot twists for my liking. Not a major detractor though. Overall a good book. I look forward to "Trunk Music".

Summary: Connelly scores again!!
Review: Michael Connelly is fastly becoming one of my favorite authors. "The Last Coyote" takes the reader deep into the psyche of Harry Bosch (who along with Sandford's Lucas Davenport are two of my favorite literary characters) and from that journey evolves a very real and likable protagonist. Connelly is at his best when he keeps the serial-killer mayhem to a minumum. This book and "Trunk Music" were fabulous novels and didn't contain nearly as much gore as "The Poet". While I enjoyed "The Poet", this book rates higher because the mystery created and the resulting detective work is more tangible while the crimes are more subtle. Connelly is a terrific all-around author, but he really shines when he raises the IQ level instead of the body count.

Summary: Very excellent mystery book
Review: It is one of the best mystery books I have read. A cop's mom is dead, and he had to find out who did it. The problem is that it happended in the 1960s, 30 or so years before.

How would he solve it? Is the person who did it still alive today?

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of Michael Connelly's best
Review: I have read all of Michael Connelly's published work and The Last Coyote is one of my favorites. Harry Bosch is a realistic, believable character. Connelly's characterization's get better with each book. (Bloodwork is also great!) I wish that more authors would have this sense of drama and realism in their characters.
