Rating: Summary: Wow Review: This is also a masterpiece. Don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: Harry's Not Your Average Joe Review: Harry's in trouble with his superiors again. This time it's gotten him suspended pending the outcome of psychiatric treatment. While he's on suspension he decides to clear up a family mystery that's bothered him for 30-odd years. His mother's murder.Harry's methods are not always orthodox, which is both why he's always getting into trouble and what makes these books so interesting. With his usual relentless determination, the investigation takes him from his home turf in LA to Florida, Las Vegas and back home. Once again Michael Connelly has produced an outstanding mystery that is, at times dark and depressing, yet leaving me wanting more.
Rating: Summary: Gritty, realistic, amazing Review: Connelly writes in a darkly poetic manner which serves this book very well. This novel reveals more about Bosch's past than any of the earlier books, and it allows readers, old and new, to see Bosch in a new light, while weaving an interesting, heartfelt story coupled with an edge-of-your-seat mystery as Bosch delves into the past and investigates the now ancient but never closed murder of his own mother. Every obstacle only pushes Bosch further into the case and hardens his determination. I found myself sucked in very early and I hung on until the very end. Astoundingly good.
Rating: Summary: Coyote Not Ugly Review: I guess all Michael Connelly fans have their own personal favourites which is a sign of a good writer. I liked 'Last Coyote' the best so far. (I haven't read Void Moon, Angels Flight, or the Black Ice yet) I liked it the most because it was a battle of the human spirit which was Harry's greatest test of all. It also had the most action which didn't hurt. Last Coyote was an excellent book and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: The Last Coyote Review: As a just-retired police officer (25 yrs.) I related to Mr. Bosch. I liked him. Connelly has "the job" down pat. He has really done his homework . . . on everything from the department shrink to the fishing trip. He thinks like a police officer would in Bosch's situation. Bosch was so . . . real. This is the kind of book a cop would read and not roll her/his eyes in disbelief. Thanks Mr. Connelly!
Rating: Summary: Grabs you and takes you for a ride Review: I don't like Los Angeles much but when Michael Connelly writes about it through the eyes of Harry Bosch, I can't stop turning the pages. In this, the fourth, Harry Bosch novel, readers are let into the heart and soul of a man who you don't think you could like (drinks too much, an in your face smoker and generally dark sort of guy) and you end up wanting to name your next cat after him. Actually, Harry probably would prefer a dog but the independent, ornery nature of a cat seems more true. Harry's on suspension and finds himself digging into the unsolved murder of his prostitute mother. By the time he's done we've learned plenty about Los Angeles in the early 60's, politics and the angst of a policeman without a badge. My husband, a former cop, simply shakes his head at Connelly's ability to express the experience of a renegade cop. We listen to these as books on tape and 13 hours go by in flash. Connelly's books are terrifically paced and this one has one heck of an ending.
Rating: Summary: Twists and Turns Around Every Corner! Review: The Last Coyote was my 7th Michael Connelly. I found The Last Coyote just as good as the rest of them. The only bad thing is that they portray Harry Bosch as a drunk, loser, cigarette-smoking slob in this one, which he isn't. I loved the plot the whole way through and was, like always, surprised with the ending. I really didn't see why the author named this book "The Last Coyote," I feel that were better names for the title than that. Overall, another winner.
Rating: Summary: Cream of the crop Review: Could easily be considered the best of Michael Connelly's novels. Loved this story, and Harry Bosch's character is masterfully done. If you love hard-boiled detective, you'll love this one. Heartily recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Strangely familiar... Review: I really liked this book, and I have been reading the Bosch books all along and was eagerly anticipating Bosch facing this skeleton. However-- awhile back I read James Ellroy's "My Dark Places," which is the real life story of the murder of his mother when he was young, and how he tried to catch the killer years later. I couldn't help but notice how similiar the plots were, so if you're intrested you might want to pick up the real thing that doesn't end so neatly.
Rating: Summary: Cop w/BIG personal problems solves mother's 30 yr old murder Review: Another Harry Bosch mystery. All of the plot twists and Harry's ongoing angst about himself, his life, his view of the world. He trolls through the nasty underside of politics and police work, digging to find the killer of his mother - 30 years ago when he was 12. Best line: he finds the cop who informed him that his mother was dead. The cop thinks that Harry's after him about the loose ends on the incident and has a gun on Harry. Harry tells the cop how he found Harry at a swimming pool to tell him. The cop says "you're the kid" and Harry answers "I'm the kid". (I love scenes that echo something that happened years before). Anyway, a very good read, and several sets of false clues, just to keep you guessing.
