Rating: Summary: Skellig Review: Skellig was a great book. My favorite part was when Mina took off Skellig's jacket and they found wings. The whole book was great. If i had a chance to read it over I would read it over. My mom said that she has never seen me so interested in a book. When I heard that the baby was going to the hospital for heart surgery I felt like I was going to cry. My mom was reading that part with me. She sounded like she was crying. I could feel tears in my eyes. I love Skellig!!!!
Rating: Summary: Skellig Review: I think Skellig was great. It was interesting and at the same scary. It brought out all of what it was trying to say. The author really described the garage and many other things. At the same time the book was a little dull, maybe one or two chaptes. The best part was when the author explain what the Skellig looked like and what he ate. Another greatr detail was when you explained how Mina thought school was like a disgrace. The only thing that could have made it better was to have some pictures.
Rating: Summary: Skellig, The Miracle Worker Review: I think that this was a great book. It brought out the whole idea that angels were really true, yet it also brought the idea that there are things that are similar to angels. David Almond did a great job describing the work that angels do. Especially using a baby in need of help for her heart. This book was also very interesting. Since he used Mina, she seemed to be very observant. The way that she believd in poems and in myths were incredible. I also liked the way that he described Micheal, he was always so caring for his family, most of all his baby sister.
Rating: Summary: The helpful Skellig Review: I think that Skellig was meant to be found by Michael because Michael was in need of help during the time that Skellig was found. Michael really needed Skellig at the time because he was worried about his sister because his sister was really ill. When Michael first found Skellig he got scared and tried to talk to him. Later on after Michael got to know Skellig he started to feed him. He fed him 27 and 53 which was chinese take-out and he gave him beer to drink. When Michael showed Skellig to Mina She decided to take Skellig to her house. They fed him the same thing but he was in a better place to stay in. Skellig would help Michael out telling him that the baby will be alright and that he would pray for the baby. That made michael feel better about the fact that his sister was ill. Later on in the book while the baby was in the hospital with mom Skellig left the house that Mina put him in. He had wings so he flew and left. Then when Michael and his father were at the hospital Michaels mother said that at night she saw a man that was pale and had what she thought were wings and he picked up the baby from the glass case and swung her around and it looked like they were dancing together...
Rating: Summary: Skellig Review: I read this book out loud to my three boys, and couldn't put it down! I got goosebumps while reading it. It hinges on the edge of fantasy and reality. David Almond plays on our human need to believe in angels and takes it a step beyond. This book is a must read.
Rating: Summary: This Book is a Disgrace to Literature!! Review: It's simply astonishing that this "book" was in the "children's books" section, when it should be in the trash. This book is garbage, and that is a compliment. This goes for the rest of his work, too. I met this "author" in April, and his arrogance was overwhelming, considering his work is akin to stepping in a pile of dung. It's not even worth wiping dung off your a** with. If it was possible, I would have given it a rating that it deserves: -13. All in all, David Almond is a great writer. Yeah, and the bubonic plague was just a rash!
Rating: Summary: "Skellig" Review: I feel that it is a very good book and keeps you interested thourhg out the whole story. It is an easy to read book . which makes younger children more enthused to read it .
Rating: Summary: "Who the heck is this guy?" Review: I really liked "Skellig." It's about two kids, Michael and Mina, who find a strange being in their garage and try to figure out what he is. An angel? A bird? Or just a weak man with wings? This book was awesome. It was a little boring at first, but keep reading, because by the middle of the story your eyes will get practically glued to the pages.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book by David Almond Review: Skellig is a great book by a great author called David Almond. This adventurous book is full of vivid writing which helps the story flow smoothly. Adventures and mysteries are what lie behind the cover of Skellig. Skellig is a really, really, really good book for ages 9 and up. Way to go David Almond you wrote a great book that many people love to read.
Rating: Summary: Skellig Review: Skellig is a very adventurous book! Skellig, one of the main characters, is found in an old run down garage by a kid named Michael when he first moves in. Skellig is very frail and weak because he has been in the garage for a long time. So, Michael helps him as much as possible. Skellig says he doesn't want any help, but then he gives up, and lets him help! Michael tells one of his neighbors, Mina, about Skellig and she starts helping Michael take care of him. Michael and Mina decide that Skellig needs to go to a safer, stronger, place. If Mina hadn't known about Skellig, then Skellig probably wouldn't have moved, because Mina is the one who knew of the place where they brought him! When Skellig is being moved, they feel something on his shoulder blades! There is something very mysterious about Skellig! But then his secret reveals itself! The numbers 27 and 53 play an important role in this book! Through all of this chaos, Michael has another problem in his life! David Almond's style of writing is very creative! I don't know how he came up with the things he did, but I like how he writes! This book made me think about things I have never thought about! That part I really liked about this book!
