Summary: An Enchanting book!
Review: As a reading specialist,I enjoy taking the time to read children's books as they are sometimes better than adult novels! Skellig was a remarkable, enchanting, spiritual journey with a young boy,Michael, going through a family trauma as well as trying to adjust to a new home. When he and his new neighbor,Mina, discover Skellig, the real page-turning begins. The mystery of Skellig's identity plays along with the increasing severity of Michael's baby sister's illness. It was difficult for me to put the book down because the author keeps you guessing what will happen next. Readers will become deeply involved with all the "happenings" towards the end. This is a novel I would recommend to kids in grades 6 and up.It would also be a great read- aloud for families as well. I hope David Almond writes another novel soon!

Summary: The Best Book
Review: I LOVED this book it was great. When you read this book you have to keep reading I could never but it down I read half the book in about 3 hours. The begining of the book it was boring but it kept getting more interesting. The ending is kind of weird because it's just cut off and it ends. You really don't know what happens to them. I would recommend it to all my friends that like mysteries and like to figure how a story goes.

Summary: Skellig by Sarah Peake
Review: This book was so good I bought one for a friend. I thought this book was good because it is exciting and I never new what was going to happen next and couldn't put it down. I thought Skellig as a character was quite scary at first but when I got to know him, he was nice. I found it a bit difficult to understand to start with but then it got really exciting. It was a sad ending and I was disappointed that such an excellent book had come to an end.

Summary: OVERRATED
Review: What an overrated book for children this is. It was hard for my daughter or myself to empathise with 'Skellig' or with the children's love for him. His character was undeveloped beyond the morbid descriptions and habits of his eccentric predicament. Neither were we comfortable with some of the inappropriate language used to give the book a 'normal kid experience' or 'street cred' feel. With there being so many more imaginative, enriching new books out there I do sincerely wonder why this one has been so well received. Is it perhaps an overreaction to the current success of the more entertaining style of Rowling.

Summary: What strange and wonderful dreams I had while reading this
Review: I loved this book for how it expanded my imagination, back to a dimension it had when I was a child. I shared it with two of my 10 year old students, and they were awed by it, asked for more like it. Loved it. It gives richness and helps define an interior world. If your child is a dreamer, introspective or has big questions about life, they are very likely to be moved by this book.

Summary: A pretty scary story for a childrens book, but wonderous too
Review: The other reviewers do a good job of capturing the mystery and engaging nature of this book. The student from Shropshire, England is probably the only critique you need. However, I've had a few friends read it and they were somewhat repulsed by some of the graphic descriptions of the Skellig character, so I guess this isn't for everyone. It does have layers that make it more than a children's book, and engaging characters that make it a fun read. A cynic would choke on it, but if you are willing to read it as an allegory, and a study of the human heart, you will be swept away.

Summary: This is a wonderful book...
Review: I love stories where reality intersects with something magical or special. "Skellig" is this kind of book. It's lovely, poignant, mysterious. All of us (especially adults) need to be reminded sometimes that maybe the world is more full of wonder than we think it is.

I really liked this book.

Summary: This will make adults take another look at children's lit.!
Review: It's a shame this is classified as a children's book because both children and adults will gain a great deal by reading this terrific book. Almond successfully weaves all the strands of this story together in a believable way, or in a way that I want to believe in! I was lucky enough to find this book after being asked to read it by an elem. school librarian. It meets all my qualifications for a "good book": I felt I was in Michael's world while reading; it made me cry, and most importantly it made me think. I wish Almond's adult novels were available on amazon.com, but only one is available on amazon.co.uk. I will look for more from this author.

Summary: Best fiction I have read for a long time
Review: This story is gripping from start to finish. There are different strands of story which weave themselves together into a dilemma for a young boy and his family. I am still thinking about why Skellig was sent. Although this book is written for young adults it also stuck in the memory of this considerably older adult. Brilliant! Rush out and read it today!

Summary: This book is one of the most imaginative books I ever read
Review: I have been selected by the Marches School, Shropshire,England to be one of the (mini) judges for the carniege awards along with loads of other children. I found that this book started off slow and as we got to know Skellig the story became really interessting and made me want to read on. The characters reacted well with each other and were fairly realistic. I perticulary liked the way they both had there own secret.
