Summary: David Almond, Please Keep Writing!
Review: We bought this book after reading a favorable review of it inthe New York Times Book Review. I was skeptical: for the most part, book reviews seem to get it wrong with respect to children's literature, believing that children most want gently-wrought, monosyllabic, dumbed-down stories. I read Skellig to my six-year-old daughter. We could not put it down. The man/angel, Skellig, is a character not often found in children's literature: he is gentle, plaintive, weird, human, ethereal and a little spooky all at once. Needless to say, we were both boo-hooing by the end. One word about the beginning: don't be put off by its rather formulaic start, i.e., new house, unfamiliar school, sick baby, dark garage. The amalgam of events, and especially the way David Almond presents them, makes Skellig one that should or should have received the Newberry.

Summary: Great Reading Experience
Review: This is not you basic kid literature. It's written in a very adult style, which may be too hard for younger ones to grasp. I read this to my 9 year old son, who loved it, and is very excited about reading Kit's Wlderness next. Skellig is dark, spooky, and very thought provoking. Be prepared for a lot of questions and discussion while reading this.

Summary: Great read-aloud book
Review: Skellig is a real page-turner. I challenge anyone to read thefirst chapter and put the book down; you can't do it. The story isoffbeat enough to make it interesting, but grounded in the strong emotions and sharply drawn characters that inhabit it. I read aloud to my kids every night and we often have trouble picking a book. My older kids want something with depth, a chapter book, my six-year-old son wants a picture book with a quick resolution. When he saw me pull out Skellig, he was not pleased. That quickly changed. All three of them are hanging on every word as this mysterious tale unfolds. Even if the story were not as good as it is, they would be mesmerized by the lyrical writing and perfectly captured child's-eye view of the young hero and narrator. But the story is top notch, with enough suspense, drama and sheer joy that they rush through their showers and their tooth-brushing every night in the hopes of getting an extra chapter. This is the best thing we've read since Roald Dahl's Matilda - and that says a lot.

Summary: Couldn't Sleep
Review: I don't know what came over me when I read this book, but I wept at every chapter and I couldn't sleep the night after I finished it. Even recalling it now makes me tremble. It is one of the best books I have ever read, and some people are ignorant enough to say that this book is overrated and far to strange for children, but some people aren't up to anything but reality and simplistic happiness. I have defined this book as one revelry with beauty and symphonic silence and faraway looks. Godspeed Persephone.

Summary: Loving and Strange
Review: I'm 10 years old and I have read the book Skellig.I think that the people that rate these books should look at them differently.they might have think that Skellig should rank 4 1/2...but I don't.I think Skellig is a good book because it tells how us kids feel towards other people that have only some or no friends at all.It also shows that you should stand up for your friends and you should never give up on your hopes or your dreams to help other people and to take care of others other then your youself. So I hope that you listen to me because I think Skellig is great.

Summary: A Skellig book review
Review: The book of Skellig is a very heart-warming story. It has powerful and strong messages many of which have a moral behind them. It is a story of love and faith between Skellig, Michael, Mina and the baby. In a way, the baby and Skellig are linked together with strength-when Skellig regains his strength,so does the baby as though they have a special bond.In parts of the story,it is suggested that Skellig is the baby,s guardian angel. This story is extraordinarily profound which any age reader will enjoy.

Summary: A good easy read
Review: Skellig is the story of a pair of young friends who find a cross between a human and a bird. They have an adventure, which involves them growing magical wings for a short time. The author, David Almond, has made a wonderful job of discribing the characters and their enviroment. The poet Willaim Blake also features, along side a heavy enforcis on birds, in this marvelous piece of literature.

Summary: The Skellig Review
Review: Skellig is an unrealistic yet unique book which is also profound. It gradually describes Skellig, leaving you beguiled as to what Skellig really is. David Almond has produced a really powerful intensifying book which pulls at your heartstrings till the very end. This unforgettable,'unputdownable'book is a book worth remembering. I would recommend this book to anybody who desire to read something special.
