Rating: Summary: Terrific book with the one and only Ramona Review: This is a great book. I was afraid it might not be as good as the others before it but I was not disappointed with Ramona's World. If you like Ramona stories, don't hesitate to pick this one up. Highly recommended
Rating: Summary: As good as all the rest Review: Beverly Clearly has done it again! What a great book! If you liked the other Ramona books, you will love this! It's about Ramona's fourth grade year! The book includes a lot of laughs!
Rating: Summary: Another Gem! Cleary is on the mark as always! Review: My 9-year-old daughter has read and loved all of the Ramona Quimby stories, but she says this is the best of the bunch. She read it over two days in a few hours. It has been the only book (among more than 100 children's novels) that she hasn't been able to put down for a long time. Blume, Konigsburg, Paterson, Lowry, Naylor, Cresswell -- they're all great in their own ways, but Cleary speaks straight to the heart of youngsters every time like no other children's author alive. And Ramona is every girl's friend.
Rating: Summary: I didn't know this lady was still in business! Review: I spotted this book on the main page and went"wow". I'm only a couple of years from qualifying for seniorcitizen discount at some stores, but I was in elementary school when I read about Ellen Tebbets and her bratty nemesis Otis Spofford. What happened to them--did they get married and are now grandparents? If Cleary keeps on truckin' like this, she'll end up the Twain of this century, with kids reading her books a century after she's gone.
Rating: Summary: Ramona is better than ever! Review: I received my copy of "Ramona's World" yesterday, and sat down and read the entire book immediately. I was first introduced to Ramona in 1984, and I have wanted to read more about her ever since. Ramona is the same Ramona - getting into scrapes and learning about life, and she does it with style and humor. I sincerely hope that there will be more Ramona books. They are perfect for children, and wonderful for the adults who grew up along with Ramona years ago.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and Classic Cleary! Review: I was so thrilled when my copy of Ramona's World arrived in the mail that I instantly sat down in my big recliner and read through the entire thing at once. Mrs. Cleary has done it again in her classic style in a book that is Pure Ramona! If you love the Ramona Quimby books, you won't want to miss this one.
Rating: Summary: Even at 20 years...the book is enjoyable Review: In my elementary school days; one of my favorite authors was Beverly Cleary; and her stories...."Dear Mr. Henshaw" in particular. However, I was enthused to learn that a new Ramona book had been published in the late 1990s.
Cleary, for the most part, successfully continues the story line from her previous book ["Ramona Forever", I believe]...while introducing new characters [Daisy] at the same time. Younger readers will enjoy the book; and; from a college student's perspective; gave me a few chuckles as well.
A point is deducted for a lack of coverage on Mr. Quimby's dad--this had been a focal point of the series; and, for the most part, is left out of this one.
Rating: Summary: It's Ramona...but not quite Review: When compared to the other books, this one is lacking something. Maybe depth, maybe heart? I can't quite decide, but it definitely isn't written with the same tone as its predecessors. The characters seem to simply exist and DO, they don't interact with each other as they do in the other books. Ramona's family isn't cohesive, her parents seem disinterested and distracted and there is none of the family warmth we've come to expect. Also, I know Ramona is growing up, but she's lost a lot of her fire and nerve here and I missed that.
Ramona is only one year older, yet the story has modern touches, while the others are decidedly more old-fashioned. I couldn't quite resolve the changes in my mind and consequently, I felt this book didn't match the others. It's still a good story, but the originals are much better.
Rating: Summary: not the same as the others... Review: I was excited when I found the new Ramona book in the library; I thought that Beverly Cleary had finished the series. I liked the book, but i thought that it was lacking something that the others have. Ramona doesn't seem to have the same spunkiness and sparkle as in previous books like Ramona Forever, and her relationships with her family don't seem as well-developed either. i think that the book is good enough on its own, but it doesn't quite measure up to the other Ramona books. Read the previous ones first so you don't miss out!
