Rating: Summary: What a Powerful Book Review: I got this for Christmas. I never would have read anything by these guys, much less a book about the environment. But this is a GREAT book. Just fascinating. There are things in here about the past that I have never seen anywhere else. And it moves you, the story it tells. It's some kind of a classic. I just hope they aren't totally right, because if they are and we don't do anything about it, nobody will be left in the future to enjoy it. Thanks to two very unexpected authors.
Rating: Summary: Fine Book--Crazy Reviews Review: This is a very exciting and fun book that makes a terribly important point: sudden climate change is a serious issue and it needs to be dealt with in an intelligent way. The authors back up their claims with solid research, and given the bizarre storms recently in Europe, they are by no means over sensationalizing. So, why all the crazy reviews? The reviews on this book read like some kind of chat room for nuts. The book deserves much better-and saner-treatment!
Rating: Summary: The sky is falling the sky is falling! Review: I have been listening to Art Bell for over 2 years now and I must say I do love his show. But his doom and gloom prophecies based on psuedo-science is a tad bit overdone as of late. Now that I see that Y2K has come and passed without a hitch I have now become completely disenchanted with the whole END OF THE YEAR stuff! ENOUGH ALREADY! Art Bell has juiced us enough with his apocalypse scenerios and this book should be the last chapter. If your an Art Bell listeners you might enjoy this book, but if you're tired of the whole y2k, buy gold, baygen radio, and can goods then don't take a look at this book, rather check into the Urantia Book.
Rating: Summary: Blisteringly stupid... Review: Before stating anything else, I will give this book credit for being rather entertaining in certain places.Unfortunately, entertainment does not seem to be the primary focus of this book. For the most part, this book attempts to pass itself off as a serious scientific work, which it is certainly not. Most of the ideas stated in this book are based on assumptions of questionable validity that are essentialy unverifiable since for the most part Bell and Strieber fail to identify any primary sources. The central point of the book (that global warming can shut down the Gulf Stream current and trigger an ice age) is lost among chaotic discussions about zodiacal effects on weather and the extinction of an ancient, advanced civilization (for example, there are 16 entries in the index for 'advanced civilization', but 12 for 'climate changes'); such discussions are poorly substantiated and weakly related to the central thesis. In fact, the real information in this 255-page book is contained in about 20 pages and can be found on the internet more conveniently, cheaply, quickly, and entertainingly than by reading this book.
Rating: Summary: A Cold Assessment Review: I think one must remember that this book is written by Bell and Streiber, two men who are not scientists, two men who stand to profit from sensationalism. However, that being said, I do feel that the climatalogical research detailed in the book is sound and that the overall premise is not to be dismissed lightly. I struggled with the chapters dealing with the historical precedence of natural disasters - not an easy read. The chapters on what the superstorm might be like were riveting. In summary, I wish there had been a third author involved; someone with scientific credentials. I also hope that the book helps alert the world to what is already happening to the precarious balance of the world's climate.
Rating: Summary: A great big barn burning book! Review: Try to enjoy a little bit of shiver fantasy for what it is. Art Bell is a funny guy. Call it what you will, even tar and feather Art's Global Superstorm as pure junk science and it will still be hugely entertaining as fiction-something I could never say about anything Paul "the world is ending" Erlich ever wrote. Don't pay the snooty reviews any mind. Some people are incapable of being entertained without donning their I know more than you do hats and complaining. Read the book. Jerry Furland, author of "Transfer-the end of the beginning"
Rating: Summary: AWFUL Review: I am an Art Bell fan. As an insomniac I have spent many nights listening to Art. Unfortunately he is spending the bulk of his time plugging radios, dry food, gold and now this dreadful book. It is boring and dry. I did not believe any of what he was writing because never is there any proof or documentation to the ravings in this book. It seems to me Art is milking the public to make some money before he packs it in. I am going to sell this book immediately at auction with NO minimum. Save your money and buy some dry food. Can I get a refund!
Rating: Summary: Make it a Movie? Review: I liked this book from Art and Whitley. It was interesting and written in a format of putting the reader in a position of knowing that all things are possible, no matter how impossible they sound. I suggest they make it a MOVIE! Put a couple of actors in there like Kevin Costner and Susan Saradan, WOW! Is it entertainment or is it prophecy?
Rating: Summary: A Frightening Possibility Review: The Book "The Coming Global Superstorm" By Art Bell and Whitley Strieber is well thought out, well researched and well written. The book is also easy to understand; and it is also difficult to remain unimpacted by the book's message and what it may mean for mankind if it is true. It is a dire warning that we must not ignore.
Rating: Summary: Look at the Big Picture! Review: This book has inspired me to radically change my lifestyle! I am a stereotypical American consumer. Today, I ordered 24 solar panels and put a "for sale" sign on my gas-guzzling utility vehicle.... Please buy this book and read it intuitively, not critically. Look at the forest and not the "trees"...as the other reviewers have done glibly. Buy this book and pass it on to everyone you know!
