Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A great book
Review: Loved it! Will was a very involved character with many situations. I felt as if I was at the school and being a plebe in the system. Was really involving and I couldn't set it down even though it was like 498 pages.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I felt as though I traveled through the plebe system
Review: Pat Conroy does an excellant job of showing life in a military school, such as The Citadel. Through his use of imagry on Hell Night to the seen of Will's taming, I felt as though I was there. I now have a true respect for those who survived their freshmen year at The Citadel. I now look forward to reading the other books written by Pat Conroy.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: From the view of a Citadel wanna-be, I loved this book!
Review: This book was delightful. Conroy puts into words the feeling of all cadets who attend the "Institute."

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great book, but not my favorite Conroy
Review: This book was an excellent read. The developments in the relationship of the four main characters were believable and very moving. However, I enjoyed both The Prince of Tides as well as Beach Music more than this book. The Lords of Disicipline seemed less complex, less emotional, and more predictable. I learned more and felt more in reading the other two novels. I think that this book may be appealing to young guys, maybe college students, who normally don't like to read; the book seems to really capture their experiences and it reads very quickly and easily.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An explosive novel with plenty of action!
Review: The Lords of Discipline was an excellent novel. It had a great deal of detail, and was a very smooth read. The characters each had their own unique personality. I liked the realistic point of view, it made the book seem like nonfiction. The setting was in the South and had everything from southern belles to racism. Most of Pat Conroy's books seem to be in the South and based on military life. Both the Great Santini and The Lords of Discipline are real eye peelers to the experience of military life. They focus on the positive and negative aspects of this lifestyle. I appreciated the honesty about this kind of life that the author portrayed. Few parts of the novel held back or lacked an accurate description of what was going on. There was no sheltering from the "the real world" within the confines of this book. Multitudinous issues were addressed. Racism, first loves, self discovery, and rising to meet challenges were just some of the themes discussed in the story. This is a remarkable amount of variety for a set of characters and the author to deal with. Although this book is very long it doesn't seem boring or slow. It's one of those books that keep you up at night, a real page turner! The plot is rich with many twists and turns. There are several surprises and unexpected events up until the very end. It seems to mirror real life, exploring and provoling emotion and makes you think hard about your own pitfalls and accomplishments. There are scenes that blaze with the bitter truth of society and the morals of the human race. There is a strong system of heirachy here in America from the lower class runts to the high stepping aristocrats. This novel proves that this is so. The examples of unquestioned authority are truly amazing. In conclusion I would intensively recommend this splendid piece of literature. It's voice is heard loud and clear throughout the course of it's tale. So, come one, come all, and snuggle up with a grrrrrreat book!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Coldly realistic, a book not to be taken lightly
Review: This book turned my world on end. The graphic descriptions of the main character's life as a private enrolled in a tough military institute in the heart of the South made my hands shake and set my nerves on edge. This book grabs you from the start, packs you on a terrifying journey through experiences you never want to be faced with, and then spits you out at the end, shaken, triumphant, and almost eager to return to your everyday life. This would have been the best book I've ever read, if it hadn't stressed me out so much!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A brilliant, touching novel
Review: Pat Conroy captures life in Charleston, South Carolina, and specifically at southern military academies during the 1960s perfectly. The intertwining of the stories of Will McLean's experiences with his roommates, fellow cadets, and an "untouchable Charleston snob" makes for a book that I simply could not put down, whether it was the first or twenty-first time that I read it. Both the tragedy and triumph that Will experiences seem to touch everyone who reads this incredible book, because we have all grown up and felt the happiness and sadness that go with learning how to be ourselves and fight for that in which we believe.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The cream of a very creamy crop!
Review: The Lords of Discipline is the best book written by the best author writing in America today. Read it soon. Read it often. Recommend it to your friends.
