Summary: An emotionally powerful statement
Review: Reading Conroy's LORDS OF DISCIPLINE was difficult and painful, but an experience I recommend to all. I felt his love/hate relationship with his school, and was angered with him at the cruelty and disregard for the human psyche. Yet I cheered with him with each of his successes. It can't be easy to do a fictionalized expose of something you hold so dear, and I applaud Conroy's thoughtful balance and loving restraint as he tells this awful, awesome tale. Read this, but be prepared to have trouble putting it down.

Summary: Best book I ever have read
Review: The very best book I have read. I'm 15, and I read a LOT. Even though I was just reading it for English class... I still loved it. Pat Conroy's descriptions are extremely vivid... I could picture the things he spoke of... something I haven't seen all that often in a book. I really got a sence of what McLean thought and felt, it was a truly awesome expirence

Summary: Best written book I've ever read!
Review: I think Pat Conroy was possessed when he wrote this book. His descriptions of Charleston and the plot he weaves around four cadets are unbelievable. Have read this book four times and will soon read it again. A major piece of literature!!

Summary: Read It! - Then Read It Again!
Review: Few books I've read have left such a lasting impression. Pat Conroy is at his finest in The Lords of Discipline because he involves his readers so totally. He engages every emotion with such conviction and heart-felt writing that he dares his readers to put the book down. Even after reading this book for the third time it never grows old and the ending still gets me. My only wish is that The Lords of Discipline were a few hundred pages longer.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: In the same category as Beach Music. This is both a beautiful yet tragic story with the main character being somewhat the Holden Caulfield of the Citidel. Conroy captures the elegant grace of the old South along with its snobbish aristocracy. We witness and unbelieveable friendship crumble for reasons we thought not possible.

Summary: You'll be snapped to attention, or left broken ...
Review: Pat Conroy's genuis is hard to explain, unless you've been lucky enough to read something by him - only then can you know or understand the South, as only a Southerner knows it. One of the greatest gifts a person can have in life is to be born a Southerner, but by far it is also their greatest curse to be sustained by the blood of the south. Conroy invokes the deepest feelings of being truly Southern, revealing the horrors of one of the South's greatest sources of pride, the Citadel - South Carolina's military college. After reading this novel, you will wish desperately to shed the cloak of your Southerness, while realizing how beautiful the South can be. If you were born to walk the beaches and lie in the shade of the Appalachian mountains, this book was written for you - sample what Conroy has to offer, then read it again, and again...

Summary: The Best Book that I have read in my 16 years on this planet
Review: This is has got to be the greatest book that I have ever had the chance to read. Conroy depicts the south using his own personal experiences that support the story and make it even more realistsic. I felt like was at the school the whole time and experiencing the trials that Will went through. The book grasped me and envoked all of my emotions; fear, sadness, joy, grief, etc. Thank you Pat Conroy and will you please continue to give your readers wonderful novels to read. You MUST read this book.

Summary: incredible perspective of military colleges & academies
Review: As one of the first women to earn an appointment to VMI, I can relate to Pearce so well. Conroy steps inside his characters and brings their experiences to heart. I have read this novel at least four times, and every time, it means a little bit more. Even if you don't love the military lifestyle, you will find something to love about this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The Best Novel I've Ever Read
Review: I adore this book. I've read it at least give times, and I still cry at times, still cheer at the books climactic scene, and still gasp atthe shocking revelation.

Conroy's use of language it masterful. No other novelist causes me to read passages alod to hear them spoken. A book to read again and again and again.
