Summary: Some cheese with your whine??
Review: It gets tiring to read a book that is no more than a rant against "corporate America" and the "rich fat cats". He fails to inform readers that he has become a "rich fat cat" by the writing and publication of his whines.
I do agree with some of the problems, but very rarely do I agree on his solutions. His John Wayne Gacy fan club donation was mean-spirited (does he realize that Gacy left parents without their children?) and not funny or witty at all. The mental institution commitment would only have been funny if it was Moore that had gotten committed.
I am a middle roader but this book was so far left that it went into another zipcode from me.
I would rather read political humor and satire that is less cruel and more funny.

Summary: This guy is confused
Review: Why does he write from emotion rather than fact. The fact is, he doesn't know anything.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Well written and well researched
Review: Micahel Moore's book Downsize This! shows the aspects of stupidity in American society. In the political spectrum, he is a liberal, but he is not quick to judge like other documents written by liberals and conservatives alike. Instead, he obviously does a ton of research and observes the patterns of politics and big business. He manages to pojnt out the shocking similarities between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, and denounces both of them as alike, and givespretty good reasons on why half the population doesn't take part in presidential elections. His views on abortion, though comical in some sense, surprisingly make a lot of sense

Along with a satirical sense of honesty, Moore also throws in some very humorous commentary, like new and improved ways to vote for the President, and several jabs at certain politicians and corporations, especially a certain corporation he attacked in his documentary Roger and Me.

To read this book, an open mind is recommended. Moore's sharp wit and sense of being accurate, in most cases, may be too much for some to handle. This is obviously not a book for everyone, though I know many detractors and admirers on all sides of the political spectrum.

Summary: Not for conservatives or republicans
Review: I loved Moore's movies Roger & Me and Bowling for Columbine. I bought this book to read on vacation while visiting my parents in the US. This book did not make it back to Germany with me.

At the bookstore, I read the back cover and flipped through this book briefly and thought it looked hilarious. Although funny at first, I quickly became bothered by the extremely left viewpoints presented by Moore; and I'm in no way far-right, I'm closer to middle-of-the-road. From the middle to the end of the book, I was just forcing myself to continue, telling myself that I need to read the whole thing and it's almost over.

I guess I was expecting more comedy and less (extreme) leftist rhetoric. Some of the things he says are interesting, but in most cases, his arguments really turned me off.

My advice is: if you're interested in this book, go to the bookstore, sit down and read a few chapters before you commit to buying it. You might love it, then again, you might regret spending money on it.

I haven't decided if I will read Stupid White Men... It does seem to have better reviews than this book.

Summary: More Moore, please
Review: I don't care if you're rich or poor, liberal or conservative... you must have a sense of humor to appreciate Michael Moore. If you do, you'll like this. Does Corporate America abuse workers? Yes. Does Moore go over the top in bashing them (Corp. Amer.)? Definitely. But who cares? It's all in fun. Lighten up, folks. Other good books that bash institutions - NO ONE'S EVEN BLEEDING and DELANO

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Conservative Bastards
Review: I'm not talking about all conservatives, just the ones who gave this book a bad review because they can't accept that Moore pisses them off because he's right and they don't like what right looks like. I haven't even read the book. I don't care. I'm just doing my part to even it off with hypocrisy. My review cancells out a one star... not really but it's worth trashtalking conservatives. Bush hate's poor people. Bush loves rich people. That's great if your rich. Good for you, but don't hate Moore because he's pointing out what's wrong with our society.

Summary: Absolute Trash & Hate from Moore
Review: Moore is the man who called the 9-11 airplane passengers cowards! He claimed if they had been black that 9-11 would have never happend! A real hate monger liberal.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A Little Bit Offensive, A Little Bit Socialist, ALL PROFOUND
Review: Now, I have always fancied myself as a right swinging Democrat, so this book was quite a bit to the left of my personal beliefs. But I have to say, this man can communicate his point. His antics and his rants are all well read and educated when it comes to the issues in which he speaks. There is nothing this man won't do to make his point.

Michael Moore, the man who brought us "Roger and Me," brings to this book a passion for the American Citizen and the American worker that is second to none. His ideas are a bit extreme, but he really hits home with the points. From calling Nelson Mandela to end the "American Apartheid" brought forth by the fact that racism is still a major problem here, to sending campaign contribution checks to Pat Buchanan from the "Abortionists for Buchanan" PAC to prove that no matter who gives money to politicians, and no matter how much a politician says that they are against what the PAC stands for, they will take the money (Pictures of the checks and the endorsements are all pictured in the book)

Overall this book is about the general abuse the American worker has endured as a result of Corporate America, and its never-ending pursuit of the dollar. He makes constant reference to a multitude of American companies that announce enormous profits and then layoff considerable numbers of workers. He denounces the concept of corporate welfare as it amounts to three times the value of all social welfare programs combined.

I guess what I didn't like about the book was the extreme stances. The book definitely had some socialist overtones. I don't have a problem with the concepts but I do not always like how much the means will cost for the ends. . . .

Overall, this is a good book. If you do not have a left-swinging bone in your body, do not bother with this book unless you are checking up on what the opposition thinks. You will be offended. If you like good satire, or have ever been downsized, this book is for you.

Summary: Michael, Michael, Michael....you used to be so cool!
Review: I loved Moores movie "Where's Roger?" back when it came out. It was brilliant, funny and sad. His short lived series on TV was also entertaining and provocative but this book sent shivers down my spine. Oh sure, who agrees 100% with Michael? It dooesn't matter because he is funny and truthful right? WRONG! I was doing just fine with the book, laughing a lot, being provoked here and there and mildly offended now and then until I read Chapter 10. This is the chapter where Moore puts Hitler's anti-semitic views to shame by declaring that Germany is a nation that has not paid for it's sins and that all of it's citizens, regardless of age or lack of complicity, deserve being gunned down in the streets. He calls German retirees and tourists in Florida "Nazis" and thinks it would be humorous to arm South Floridians and have them "REALLY" end WWII
saying "Run for your life Klaus!"
Sorry Michael...you crossed the line.
Buy the book and keep it on your shelf as an example of how at some point the Left can stretch so far that it touches fingers with the Right.

Summary: 2nd Book is better.
Review: Once again I read a set of books in the wrong order. Stupid White Men was a great book. Downsize This... not so great. I do sympathize with Michael Moore's comments. It angers you to read some of the things he wrote about big corporations and layoffs. The American Dream is gone. Thankfully I'm Canadian.
