It is the kind of book that you read for enjoyment and not because you have to. Rauld Dahl uses great imigry and humor to get you hooked on it. He invents new characters that just make you laugh or make you think if that could really happen. This book recieves 6 stars from me but i could only fill out five.
Rating: Summary: Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator Review: The book Charlie And the Great Glass Elevator is a great book. When Charlie, his family, and Mr. Wonka go in a ride in the elevator the glass elevator gets too far up. It ends up in space. Then they see a space hotel and want to link up with it. When they get onboard they have a feast, but as soon as they eat, "knids" start appearing one by one, and start to spell "SCRAM." Find out what happens to them by reading this great book "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator."

Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator is a book for kids for a vivid imagination. Charlie is off again with his new book (after Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) that has more excitement and adventure. I would higher hieghts, in space. Charlie has to fight in a vigorous battle, and save his grandma from some far off place. Charlie now owns the Chocolate factory from the first book where Charlie was last seen in the great glass elevator. Roald Dahl made this book you can't put down because of his wording. So run off to the nearest book store, lie down, and prepare for adventure and suspense.
Rating: Summary: Quintessentially, Willy Wonka! Review: I had never read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but I am a big fan of the movie, Willy Wonka, it is also one of my pre-schooler's favorites. We read Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator together, one chapter each night, and it was wonderful. It picks up right where the movie (and I assume the book) leaves off. The story was slightly inferior to The Chocolate Factory, hence the 4* rating, but nonetheless it was very enjoyable and well-written.
Rating: Summary: It was really funny! Review: There were so many funny parts of this book, like when Grandma Georgina went to Minusland and when the 3 old people in the bed fought over the WONKA-VITE. If you are looking for a funny book, you should definitely read this one. Another funny thing are the Knids - they are funny looking because they are made out of rubber but they look like rock! This book is as good as WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. It's too bad that there wasn't a 3rd Book called CHARLIE AND THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE! I think other readers will really like it and they will laugh a lot!
Rating: Summary: very funny Review: This is a funny, funny book! The story is not as good as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but this book is MUCH funnier. I've read from some of the other reviewers' comments that their children didn't really like this book because the dialogue was over their heads. That may well be true--I read this book for the first time as a teenager. I read it out loud to my parents and all three of us were practically rolling on the floor! I think this is a great book, for what it's worth.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment... Review: Sorry, but this book was a real disappointment after Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! If you are a parent, read it first before considering it for your children- mine were bored.
Rating: Summary: More Charlie and Willy Wonka. Review: After having read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together with my six year old daughter she absolutely wanted to hear more about Charlie and the fantastic factory he got from Willy Wonka. The Great Glass Elevator can not be compared to the first book though, and is probably written for kids much older than my daughter. The plot is too difficult to understand, and especially all the talk about the American president and his advisers does not make any sense - at least not for a kid. We still meet the same Willy Wonka though, the charming, totally crazy man and all his mad ideas. So inspite of the difficult plot part of the book is quite good. My daughter especially liked the part where the grandparents are given the Wonka-Vite pills that will make them 20 years younger, and the fight between the olds to get most pills. But it is dissappointing that such a small part of the book is spent in the chocoalte factory. At least for young kids a sweet factory is much more a place of their dreams than flying around in outer space in a glass elevator. Not among Dahl's best book, but still a good read, especially to read together with a book loving child.
