Summary: A Disappoinment
Review: I found this book to be a huge disappointment. The plot was the biggest disappointment. It was only barely recognizable as Star Wars. I felt that it was toatally disjointed from any previous Star Wars novels. I agree with another reviewer that it was written purely for horror. I love the Star Wars saga. I read the books purely for the story, the development of the plot and characters. I read them so I can keep up with my old friends, Luke, Leia, Han, and the rest, and to meet new ones, Mara, Jaina, Jacen, Anakin, etc. It is a joy to read a novel well written, like Timothy Zahn's The Last Command. It is a real let down to read books like this one. Del Rey is going to have to do a lot better than this to keep the true Star Wars Fans happy. I hated this book. Good books, you can read over and over and you never want to lose them. I buried this book in my closet somewhere. {[Do not read on if you don't want a spoiler.]} I cannot believe that there is any way to justify killing off Chewbacca. It broke my heart. Chewie is an integral part of the Star Wars Saga. I understand that all things eventually die, but the way they killed him was so blah. It seemed like a dishonor to him. And to top it off, the way Han reacted was so unbelieveable. He lost a more than a friend. If this what future Star Wars novels are going to be like, it looks like I'll be losing interest real fast.

Summary: For Mandi and others that think it is fine killing of Chewy
Review: Chewbacca shouldn't have been killed. All of the characters people have listed have been in 3 or 4 stories tops. Chewbacca has been in the story line for dozens of stories. He went through the movies and all the way to this book. And another thing Star wars is Science fiction and mythological. In those types of stories someone doesn't get killed for making and important decisive action. The author wrote the book as a horror story not a Science Fiction story. This guy did a horrible job on the book. The next book should bring chewy back some how.

Summary: Best Ever
Review: This book was by far the best one of the whole saga. Probably because the Empire was not involved at all!

Summary: Well it was... diffrent
Review: This book was a bit odd? I HATED how he acted like Luke, Leia and Han were old! People in that galaxy live to like 164! So don't give that! But I found the author gave all the characters human emotions and reation to situations(exp Jacen dying of embarassment on the skirt he had to wear, don't worry Jacen is NOT a crossdresser) But this is were I need the Web comunity's help! Were it says "Did this review help you?" Click yes if you think This series should end with some new Jedi twin(Skywalker)

Summary: Star Wars Chicks save the universe!
Review: I knew the big surprise when I read this book (I'm not telling you if you have yet to hear it) and I still thought it was well done. There were a couple of scenes when you thought 'OK, this is IT!' but it wasn't.
The surprising thing about this book was that it was Star Wars from the female perspective! Leia, Mara, Jania and Dani (the new chick on the block) were the core characters! Many readers (espeically those who were fond of the Thrawn trillogy) may find that the most difficult thing about the book. The girls save the universe while the men show genuine emotion and bond (some even have a breakdown or two).
I thought the characters were well fleshed out and matured (this story happens 25 years after Return of the Jedi, so yes Han, Leia, Luke & Chewie did act differently; their personalities were NOT frozen in carbonite all these years!).
Overall, a VERY good read (I couldn't put it down). It makes me want to start reading the Star Wars books again (I had stopped after half way through Heir to the Empire). Go get this book, it is an awesome story!

Summary: Welcome New Jedi Order
Review: This is a great new book. The only major problem for me was what seemed to be a loboriously long set-up. It takes a little while for the book to get going, but when it does, it kicks it into high gear.

The basic idea is that there is an invading extra-galactic warrior race coming to take over the galaxy with extreme prejudice. Then the heroes of Star Wars come to stop them.

What makes this novel different, I believe, is the Solo children are finally growing up and being real Jedi. I think that Mr. Salvatore does a good job with these three. They have different personalities and aren't Luke clones.

Next, is the death of a major character (you probably know who it is because most other reviews already ruined it, but I'm not saying who). It is disturbing at first, as it should be, but in the final pages the reason for it is revealed in the "Eulogy." I think the reasoning behind it is great, but I'm still a little sad.

Get this book and read it, you'll not be disappointed.

Summary: To all true star wars fans
Review: I have read through all the reviews posted here, and i have one thing to say to all the "fans" who are grousing about how killing a main character is simply not star wars. here is a list for all of you who have obviously not seen the movies: Obi-Wan Kenobi, uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, A New Hope; Yoda, anakin skywalker, ROTJ; and Qui-Gon Jin; TPM. Some of you Star Wars illiterates even went so far as to suggest that Mr. Salvatore, who did an admirable job with this novel, needed to watch the movies. I would suggest that you take your own advice. Mr. Salvatore did a wonderful job with the action scenes, and handled the death of a major character with a sense of dignity and heroism worthy of Mr. Lucas himself.

Summary: vector prime
Review: this book was slightly disappointing for me. i already knew the big surprise, so that kind of ruined it. the new aliens were great, but it was missing some of the main characters

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Mixed feelings
Review: First of all, I'm glad I didn't read these reviews before I bought and read the book. You people really gave major things away. Read no further if you don't want the book spoiled for you. I thought the book was great, even though I didn't like some of the events in it. I seriously cried when Chewbacca died(and I NEVER cry). What was up with killing Chewie? Why not Lando, or Kyp? The book seemed a lot darker than Star Wars probably should be. That doesn't make it a bad book, it just doesn't fit into the Star Wars universe the way I'd like it too. I like things to end happily ever after. I think some of the really cool secondary characters need to be entered into this series. Talon Karrde comes to mind. I think that Jaina is turning out to be really cool, but Jacen is getting wussier and wussier. Maybe the death of Chewbacca will serve a purpose: I believe it will be instrumental in Anakin's turning to the Dark Side(admit it, you know it's coming!) One final crazy statment: Chewie lives!

Summary: A Worthy Addition
Review: I've finally read it! :-) And I liked it, flaws and all. R.A. Salvatore definitely gets the pacing of Star Wars - very very fast! He also sets events in a way that subtly puts me in mind of ANH, although this episode has a darker flavor than that other opening chapter. The Yuzhan Vhong are truly disgusting and believably scary. I was concerned about how Mara's illness would affect her characterization, but her edge is still very much intact. Jaina, Jacen and Anakin's portrayals hearken back to BFC and the Corellian Trilogy. There is a particularly poignant event in this novel, and if you still don't know what it is and don't want to know, don't read any further down; but foreknowledge cushioned the blow for me, personally. The event also placed a stark light on the relationship between Han and his youngest son, and I'm curious to see how that plays out in the subsequent novels.

The only characterization that didn't quite grab me was newcomer Danni Quee. We're asked to care about her as much as the big three, and I get the sense that she will be joining the pantheon, but she was drawn with rather broad strokes, so I could never feel for her the way I did for even some of the returning supporting characters. But that's the great thing about the NJO - 24 more novels to fill in Danni's background and flesh her out :-D

All in all, Vector Prime succeeds at what a launch book should - I can't wait to find out what happens next.
