Summary: Somebody Save Star Wars!
Review: From what I've read so far, here's my idea- anytime a new author is introduced into the Star Wars universe, Timothy Zahn must tutor them for a minimum of 20 hours on exactly how to create 3-dimensional characters and how to create a believable sci-fi plot. As for the writing of Mara Jade- I say that Salvatore should have left blank spaces in the Luke/Mara and "just Mara" section in the manuscript and sent the whole thing to Zahn so that Mara Jade wouldn't turn out to be just another VERY flat character. I pity her-that's scary. As for Chewie dying- I think it could have been handled better, in a more valiant way, but it was necessary. Something had to shake up the Star Wars universe (besides "new and improved" Death Stars, Sun Crushers, etc.). After reading almost all the Star Wars books so far (haven't gotten to Onslaught), I'd have to say that no one can compete w/ Zahn. NEWS BULLETIN: for those new to the Star Wars universe- Mara and Luke are married in case you couldn't tell or didn't know. I apologize for any confusion you might have had due to this book.

Summary: Great Cliffhanger
Review: After I found out that Chewie was to die in Vector Prime, I didn't want to read it. But I saw it in a bookstore in October, and I fell in love with it. I got it for Christmas, and I started reading it that very day. It was very well written, and Salvatore continued the tradition of other expanded universe books in style.

Summary: All because of the Wookiee
Review: I just have to say WOW. Even hearing spoilers for the book, I have to say the total story line was unbelievable. I did enjoy "Onslaught" a bit more, but that's because I like the author better. But WOW again. I never would have believed it could happen, but it was done well. Anywayz.....WOW.

Summary: Drum roll please...Wait for paperback.
Review: I will begin this by saying that this book, Vector Prime, was quite good. There were all the great characters that we all know and love. Add to that an new evil threat that has one wondering about the future of the new Republic and you come out with a book that was good, but different. I think that it is the fact that there are hardly any trademark moments of humor or safe moments when you know everything is going to be okay. Don't the good guys always win? No, they don't and I think the galaxy far far away just got a little tougher. I also think the story line will definitely get more interesting thanks to what RA Salvatore has brought to the star wars universe. True, this book did not have some of the lighter side that is found in most star wars novels but it has on a whole made the saga a little bit richer. RA Salvatore is a great author and one of my favorites but I honestly did not how he would handle star wars. I'll admit I was skeptical when I read the first reviews but I was impressed by what I actually read. It was a solid read. Bottom line: buy the book now if you "just can't wait" but if you can wait, then do so for the paperback. It is good, but not the best star wars novel to date.

Summary: A BITTER BETRAYAL
Review: What an excuse for a book - just profit for the Lucas Empire. 2 good things about the book - it's SW universe map and SW timeline. A few of lots of wrongs: One dimensional characterization. This is a very DARK book - horror level even the cover. Writer forgot the SW atmosphere & the Force. Chewie's death was SENSELESS (Anakin using Jedi skills could have saved him.) Maybe it was a payback for making him fix the Falcon. As Han said "He left him." He died ALONE. Folks say he was window dressing-ha,he was Han's best friend & for sometime his ONLY FRIEND.(Hate to be your friend) The plot mimics many: only this time it was moon hitting a planet so we have another mass scramble to get the people off world. Another plague type and more bugs. And lots and lots of dog fights. No new stuff here except Chewie dying. Every wonder why WEDGE hasn't died? He was there BEFORE Chewie and flies an Xwing. A STAB to the HEART and LOYALTY of SW. CHEWIE DESERVED BETTER from LUCAS. When Delrey got the fiction nod - I said I have a bad feeling about this - this book proves it. 4 more and fillins before closure (no date on the ending of this storyline.) Take me back to Bantam and the SW universe and the Force so I can enjoy my reading.

Summary: Not up to par
Review: I thought the author came up with some interesting ideas for organic technology and though Chewie's alleged demise stung (this piece of the plot has already been revealed by other reviewers) the author was not betraying the Star Wars universe by this act. (Han's thoughts at the end about how his little bubble of security was shattered was quite fitting - to what we all felt about the characters.) What I do have a problem with was the superficial feel of the characters. I didn't CARE about them and that's a major flaw in writing. I never felt they really came alive. The villians were vicious and I was mildly interested in how unique they were but, again, the auther failed to really breath life into them. Follow-up books in the Star Wars universe have some pretty big shoes to fill but I felt this book could have been better if the author had given more attention to character development/portrayal. Some good ideas but only a mediocre story.

Summary: Not because of the Wookie!
Review: Vector Prime is my 5th book to read in the Star Wars expanded universe, and I gotta say this book isn't worth anyone's time. Its not the fact that Chewbacca dies, but the fact that the sotry doesn't really go anywhere at all. You think its getting better, and then the plot goes down hill from there. After you've read this one, you feel as if Star Wars has stooped to an all time low, but I hear the next one's by a new author, so don't dispair.

Summary: I don't care what people say, this book is unbelievable!
Review: There have been many negative reviews for this book and all I can say is, "What are you people thinking?" This is the best Star Wars book ever written! I have read Zahn's books, Anderson's books, and many many others and I can safely say this was my favorite. I could not put it down. People say this book doesn't portray the characters correctly but I disagree. I think this is exactly how they should be portrayed. If George Lucas did decide to make Ep. 7,8, and 9, they would be like this. They should be like this. What makes this book so great is the grand scale it is set on. You know after reading this that it is very important, that it will affect all the characters for a long time. Most of the Star Wars novels have remnants of the Empire as the villans. But this book dares to be different. It has created a new breed of bad guys and they are amazing. They make the Empire look like puppy dogs. They are ruthless and horrible. Like I said, the scale of this novel is amazing. It was ment to be a movie. I greatly look forward to reading the entire New Jedi Order series.

Summary: Are you people nuts or just blind?
Review: If I could give this book no stars, I would in a heartbeat. This book was most likely THE WORST Star Wars novel I've read since the Black Fleet Crisis. Never should a new author be allowed to do such horrid things to the Star Wars universe. Thank God for Michael Stackpole, who is rehabilitating the storyline for the New Jedi Order arc with his usual skill and flare. Salavatore should NOT be writing any more Star Wars novels, in my opinion.

Summary: TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING
Review: Salvatore really did a good job of messing everybody up. And why the heck did Chewie have to die? I mean, come on! This was probably one of the worst Star Wars books i have ever read! Oh well........ At least Stackpole's written the new book. He's at least better than Salvatore. GOD! THe plot was messed, though I rather enjoyed the Yuuhan VOng, cuz they're completely resistent to the FORCE!Also, Mara Jade, Han Solo, all of them were messed up! DON'T BOTHER EVEN READINGTHISBOOK! I reccommend all of the Timothy Zahn books, especially his Hand of Thrawn Duology.
