Rating: Summary: This text no longer "out of stock - publisher" Feb. 7, 1997 Review: A new printing has been done and this book is again available (from DeVorss anyway). It likely will never go "out of print" as it is the necessary text for all Science of Mind students, practioners and adherents.
Written in an earlier time with the "dense" prose of the day, but well worth the effort to read and absorb. The philoshopy and teaching of New Thought in general and Religious Science in particular
Rating: Summary: Thinking is Magical Review: As the former Editor of Science of Mind magazine and a former licensed Spiritual Practitioner at Agape Center of Truth in Santa Monica, I'm convinced that Science of Mind is the book - and the thinking - that saved my life. I discovered this book when it fell on my foot at the Bodhi Tree 25 years ago. I read it from cover to cover many times, practiced it's concepts to the best of my ability and in so doing I changed my thinking which changed my life. I exchanged poverty for prosperity; anger for serentiy; and embraced a spiritual path that is constantly unfolding and evolving. I teach Ernest Holmes's principles in my Myth & Legend workshops and reveal those same principles in my jewerly designs called Story Stones that empower women with beauty and myth and positive thinking. This book has a special place in my bookcase and it's very worn from lots of use. Elaine Maginn Sonne, Ph.D., Author of Legends of the Stones

Rating: Summary: A great book Review: Ernest Holmes must be among the most respected authors in this field. In fact his wisdom and vision is so deep and profound that I would dare to say he is the best. Many authors like Stuard Wilde, Harold Sherman, and others have read his book.Have you ever wondered, how can this man cure illness and psychosis in people by just concentrating on them (without laying hands)? Even cancers dissapear! I read in another book that Ernest Holmes used to wear thick glasses in the early years, but then as he slowly understood more about the Mind, he healed himself completely by recognizing the Truth by affirming daily that "There is One Spirit which is One Perfect Vision, and this Perfect Vision sees through me". He is the founder of the Science Of Mind movement that utilizes the wisdom of philosophers and religious texts such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism. Indeed, Ernest understands the deep meaning and messages in these text, and he loves all religion, yet he understood that all religion is only a vehicle towards the Truth. Most of all he loves the Truth of Spirit. He believes in no rituals, except the 'ritual' of knowing the power of Spifit. His understanding goes beyond the opposites(yin and yang) of life, and he sees into the Divine Perfection which is within everyone of us. He believes that we are all gods (rememeber Jesus said "do you not know that you are all gods?" and "this thing I do you can do also and greater things"). Truly, in everyone of us, the Christ, the Krisna, the Buddha and God resides, which is the Perfect Spirit. This book contains the teachings and applicable theories and principles taught by Ernest Holmes. It contains many chapters (this is really a thick volume!) on spiritual ideas of health, abundance, perfection etc. Also contains many affirmations. His affirmations remain one of the best, innovative and most effective. Use it to tear down all false beliefs and illusions. Readers love him for his faith, love him for his wisdom. Rating: Summary: Plain Hogwash Philosophy Review: Filmsy words but actually plain hogwash philosophy for the simpleton majority. So how do you find this book?
Rating: Summary: If You Need a Metaphysic Review: Holmes writes, metaphysics is that beyond physics. This book is a compilation of Aristotlean and Christian metaphysics that extols the power of the triune powers of spirit, soul, and body. Sound familiar? If you've studied Aristotle and/or Plotinus, you'll find much that is familiar, whilst incorporating Christian revelation. If you need a metaphysic to order your own life in some spiritual manner, this book will probably be of immense benefit to you. Since the days of Wittgenstein, philosophy has moved away from this kind of metaphysics. Rather than construct elaborate (or simple) gothic edifaces by which to understand the world in which we live, Wittgenstein and others have done their level best to deconstruct metaphysics as presented here. After one becomes accustomed to life without superstructures in which to pigeonhole life events and experiences, books like this seem like a throwback to ancient times when "how many angels dance on the head of a needle" are important. For those who need such labyrinthine superstructures, this book is about as good as it gets. It provides a superstructure by which to understand the world and one's place in it. I found myself often attracted to such ideas, only to be reminded that such structures are merely artifaces that serve to answer life's big questions with theory rather than hard core science. For example, Jesus' resurrection wasn't a true resurrection, but a dissembling of his body on this "plane of existence" to another "plane of existence." But where is this "other" plane of existence, how many of them are there, and why does Jesus get there and the rest don't, why did the disciples see it for a time, and then not? Another example is the claim that God wants us to be happy and healthy and not suffer in this life, yet the God of the Christian Bible is a Suffering God (remember the Cross?). Isaiah speaks of God's "suffering servant." This quandry is never resolved. The book incorporates Eastern as well as Western (including Emersonian) thought in a way that makes them synergistic. This feat makes the book worth reading, even if one doesn't like metaphysics. Wittgenstein is famous for having said he preferred the "world as he found it." If one has adopted this motto for his worldview, this book breaks all those rules. After 45 years of trying to make religion fit my experience, and then trying to make experience fit my religion, I decided to adopt Wittgenstein's motto -- and consequently, find books like this just another attempt to reconcile the irreconcileable.
Rating: Summary: Gold Standard Review: I accidentally (that's what I thought at that time but after reading this book I realized it was not a coincidence, it was never an accident and I was actually subconsciously looking for it, more like "Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find") bumped into this book while browsing through a book store while waiting for my flight in an airport and until then I had never heard of Ernest Holmes and it was really a big book and when I briefly turned some pages around I saw few things about mental spiritual healing and being a practitioner and all that i.e. not something that I thought would be of any interest to me, but nevertheless the title of science and mind i.e. Science of Mind appealed to me. I am happy to say that buying this book was one of the most rewarding decisions I have ever made, you may not be interested in becoming a spiritual mind healing practitioner (neither am I at this point) but if you have been noticing that events in your life somehow seem to follow your thoughts then this book explains it all, you would understand this much better if you have read books about philosophy, metaphysics, spirituality, mindfulness, manifestation...etc. But, regardless this book is for everyone. It's incredible that Holmes explained all this way back in 1926, the language is razor sharp, absolutely clear, unambiguous and very precise and the content by its very nature is universal and always relevant. You will learn that it's possible to unthink i.e. it's possible to steer your life in the direction you choose to. I promise you that you will go back to this book from time to time; it's kind of a companion.
