Rating: Summary: Sabriel is a must-read! Review: Garth Nix's Sabriel is a fascinating book of dark magic and waking dead. The heroine is headstrong yet dependent on her father, the Abhorsen. Sabriel bravely takes over her father's job of stilling the dead when he mysteriously disappears. Along with a reticent man named Touchstone, and a humorous talking cat-shaped demon, Sabriel makes for a wonderful book with lots of creative plot twists and unique types of sorcery. Garth Nix must write a sequel!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book and highly recommend it. Review: Sabriel by Garth Nix is one of those books that charms and excites the imagination. Why it is in the youth section is beyond me, because I am 36 and would love to read more of Sabriel's adventures. I recommend it to my friends as an imaginative, compelling story with a lovely touch of romance. Garth Nix has a delicate hand and I hope to read more of his books.
Rating: Summary: Sabriel: The BEST book that I have ever read! Review: This book is MUST for all people who have even the slightest interest in fantasy stories. I just read it last night and all day I have been in a Sabriel-frosted mist! IF you are considering reading this book, please do; you will be glad you did! I know this isn't a very long review, but if I could I would give the book 10 stars! The ending is the best part, by far ~ you'll never guess it!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the best! Review: I picked this book up because I liked the cover and read it in one night. You fall in love with the characters that Nix creates. I completely recomend it to anyone who likes Fantasy!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS A MUST FOR ALL FANTASY READERS!!! Review: At first, when I saw this book, I thought this book was boring because of its cover. Later, I found this book so interesting theat I couldn't and didn't put it down until I was through with it. I recommend this to everybody who appreciates fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Great book, non-stop action, great for the fantasy freak Review: This book was very well written. It had non-stop thrills and it was the kind of book where you felt like you were actually part of the adventure. It give a greatly detailed anecdote of a courageous girl's life. I give it 5 stars because of this.
Rating: Summary: Sabriel, truely a great book Review: Being a fan of anime (Japanese animation) I've come across fantastic worlds of horror, magic, and science fiction. But nothing quite like Garth Nix's world in which magic and science colide. This book is one of the best that I've ever read, if not the best. Not only because of the blending of science and magic, but also because it introduced me to Necromancy, a magic in which one rasies the dead and uses his or her will to control them. This first time reading this book, I couldn't put it down. This second time... I didn't really want to, but if some unfinished house work forced me to place a bookmark inbetween the pages and set the book down for awhile. But the book always brings you back for more, and I think that is the greatest aspect that any book can have.
Rating: Summary: great book! Review: This was a wonderful book with an engrossing plot and interesting characters. He should write a sequel telling what happens afterwards.
Rating: Summary: Excellent fantasy for serious readers. Review: Sabriel was an enchanting book for me. I'm sure that the people who have read it will belive me when I say, this book made you feel like you were part of the story. I loved how Mr. Nix wrapped all the elements of a high fantasy with the cheracteristics of a truly original piece. I must warn the future readers, some parts of this book are of horror and gore...but doesn't that make it more interesting?!? A wonderful book for those roaming the sci/fi fantasy aisles, like I do. ;)
Rating: Summary: A Classic Yet Thrilling Fantasy Review: Sabriel is the best fantasy book I've ever read, and believe me, I have read a lot!! The story plot and idea is unique too: a kingdom riddled with portals to the Dead, where things dead can come back to life, and kill those alive. . . A young girl is called upon by her father to rescue him from Death, and to battle a foe even greater than her father's precidament!! This book is a deftinite page-turner, with wonderful descriptions and metaphors. The characters are wonderful, especially Sabriel and Mogget, the cat/Free Magic Spirit. The author really makes Sabriel come to life. It's as if he knows exactly what 18-year-old girls think and feel. There is plenty of suspense, though the action plods a bit at several spots throughout the book, the descriptive power keeps you hanging in there. Garth Nix has done a wonderful job at crafting a world that is as realistic as ours, only a lot more exciting! The book's main strengths is its descriptive power and the suspense. Its weaknesses is that the author spends a bit too much time on travel time between events. But the pros outweigh the cons. If you like fantasy, you'll love this book, which reads like classic fantasy : )
