Rating: Summary: One of my all time Favorites Review: Sabreil is a book that takes you to a whole new world, but keeps some real-life details. The book begins slow(I think) but takes off after a couple of chapters when Sabreil has to journey into death to save her father, picking up two friends along the way(Mogget-a demon thing trapped inside the form of a cat and touchstone-a man who was a royal guard before being trapped in death.)This book is filled with fun, adventure, and a little romance. All the condiments of a great book.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME Review: I love this book so much! It has a plot the you dive in to and can keep you going long in to the night (when you should be sleeping, hehe). this is my very favorite book and I tell all my friends to read it.
Rating: Summary: Enormously satisfieing book Review: Sabriel is not your everyday fantasy book. It blends in sci-fi and fantasy in a way that I, a sci-fi hater, thought it one of the best books that I have read. It has a creative story plot. And every single page is filled with intrigue and detail. Although some parts might sound disgusting, this books characters and happenings, make this a defininte must-read for any pre-teen and older.
Rating: Summary: I liked it Review: When I was in 6th grade I did a book report on this book and the teacher asked how I could like a book based on death and I tried to explain that it was so much more. It is about love, adventure, and friendship; the death world that she enters is an added twist even if it seems the basis.
Rating: Summary: one of my Favorites Review: I absolutely loved this book! Usually books take from 10 to 50 pages just to get into the story! This book, the first page I couldn't stop reading! As a reader, I read about 5 books a week.I even wouldn't rate Harry Pottter so high! Take my word for it, you will love this book.
Rating: Summary: The ABSOLUTE best! Review: I found Garth Nix's book Sabriel to ba a compelling, and wonderfully detailed story. I found it to be a quick paced fantasy, with many twists and turns. I found the ending to be slightly out of place, and weak, and hope Nix comes out with a sequal for his herione, Sabriel. All in all, I would have to say that this was THE BEST book I have ever had the privilage to read.
Rating: Summary: An Exciting Fantasy! Review: Sabriel is by far my favorite book. It is about a teenage girl named Sabriel, who is a necromancer. One night at Wyverly college, Sabriel is waiting in her study for her father Abhorsen's sending. Around midnight, she is interupted by a classmate telling her that a black shape had invaded the dormitory. When she arrived, Sabriel realized that it was carrying a sack. To speak with it Sabriel entered death. Death is like a river with nine gates. If you pass beyond the ninth gate, you are almost always dead for good. The black shadow cried out, "Sabriel! My messenger! Take the sack!" It was her fathers voice. Sabriel took the sack back to life. It contained her father, Abhorsen's bells and sword. This meant Abhorsen could no longer return to the living. Later Sabriel set out for her father's house on the other side of the Wall. The Wall seperated the New Kingdom from the Old Kingdom. The New Kingdom was more modern, and the Old Kingdom was filled with the dead, and had lower technology. Abhorsen's house was located in the Old Kingdom. And so started Sabriel's quest... This is the best book I have ever read. It is very exciting, with many unexpected turns. The villian, Kerigor, is very realistic. "Sabriel" is detailed enough to be interesting, but not enough to be boring. I would recommend this book to fantasy lovers ages 11 and up.
Rating: Summary: Truly Spectacular Review: Unaware of its amazing story, I picked this book up as a feature in the library. The story of Sabriel is impressive and moving. It never dumbs down the characters but the plot moves slow sometimes because it does so. However, the images can be disturbing but to keep the novel realistic, Nix's descriptions are detailed and somewhat horrific. In the end, the characters and plot are woven into a surprisingly loving story about family ties, loyalty, sacrifice and love. This book entertains all ages, but keep in mind some things are descriptive and may scare and turn off younger ears.
Rating: Summary: A little weak Review: I read a lot, about a book every two or three days. I've read so many books that I can't count, and eighty percent of them were better than Sabriel by Garth Nix. The book had a great beginning, then it totally fizzled out. Nothing interesting happened for so long! I kept reading and the book got even more boring and monotonous. The end was very good, but it didn't make up for all the time that was lost in between the middle and the end. While Sabriel was traveling all over, nothing was happening except that she was on a boat and was going somewhere. No events really jumped out at you or drew the reader in. I guess that I'm not on the same planet as the rest of the people who read this book, but I didn't like it at all. I like fantasy, I have nothing against it, but this was one of the weaker fantasies that I have read.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK Review: This is my absolute favorite book. I love it. I would reccommend it to everyone. Also Shade's Children is really good. I reread this book more than twice every year!
