Summary: 15-year-old reviewer. Enthralling and suspensful.
Review: The Preparation Sabriel... it was the name of the book that first caught my attention... but it was the story within the book that held it. For a long time I had been aware of this book, but had been put off by the cover picture; that black shadowy thing (behind the girl on the cover) with yellow eyes and black teeth and claws rather repulsed me. Then I finally decided I'd read it, cover illustration or no, and borrowed the book from my local library. Let me tell you, this book hooked me ever so quickly. The Epilogue confused me, though, but only because I wasn't familiar with any of the terms that it contained (e.g. charter signs, charter mage, etc.). However, after I began to read the story more, the terms didn't trouble me and I was completely wrapped up in the book. I must warn you, though, that this book - while it's very gripping and suspenseful - is rather morbid as it deals quite often with the dead and the land of the dead. As a book, the images this story creates are vivid while not being too repulsing. However, as a movie I shudder to think what horrible images could be created! So I suggest that this book probably isn't appropriate for kids who are younger than 11 or 12.

The Story Okay, now to what the story is about: This story is about a girl, called Sabriel, whose father is Abhorsen (which is really more of a title than a name). You see, the Abhorsen is dedicated to sending the living dead back into death, rather the opposite of what a necromancer (a person who brings the dead back to life) would do. Thus, his (or her) job is very dangerous as things that have come back from the dead are usually very evil. Before too long it becomes apparent that Abhorsen is dead, or merely trapped in death, and (naturally) Sabriel knows she must go and save her father and perhaps even bring him back from the dead, if need be. It quickly becomes apparent that Sabriel will have to do much more than just rescue her father, but rescue the whole Old Kingdom as well! And it sounds like a very daunting task! As she journeys with Mogget (and later Mogget and Touchstone) she finds that there are Dead and the Dead's victims everywhere, and the whole Old Kingdom seems to be in shambles. The excitement in this story is never far away and the reader never suffers a dull moment (i.e. if you're not recuperating from an adrenalin pumping brush with death, you're encountering one). So I recommend this book to all who love a fantasy that is exhilarating and suspenseful, magical and realistic (as far as a good fantasy can be), and spin-chilling and heart-warming.

Summary: Sabriel
Review: Oh my god this is the best book. It has everything you need in a good sci-fi fantasy novel. It takes action, adventure, romance, and magic, rolls it up and creates a world anyone can relate to. I was so happy to here he made a sequal to Sabriel. I can't wait to get it.

Summary: A wonderful young adult fantasy novel.
Review: Garth Nix, author of the wonderful fantasy series The Seventh Tower, is a literal master of fantasy in his first and epic novel Sabriel. He creates a world different than ours with elaboration and stunning characters against a vivid backdrop of a classic, epic story. Using the masterful fantasy like Philip Pullman creates and an epic story that follows my favorite author as well, Garth Nix has written a fabulous novel destined to be a classic. Eighteen year old Sabriel is a prefect, but she knows that someday she must follow in the path of her destiny. Her father, the Abhorsen, disappeared when she was younger, as if she had been abandoned. But when she learns her father is trapped amidst the World of the Dead, she journeys to save him and, with the help of some friends, she faces foes and creatures that only a necromancer like she must learn to drive away. With a world of life and a world of dead that surround her as if one was above her and the other below, she must battle a great and powerful foe: the darkest soul, a Dead, Kerrigor: A foe so dark and unfathomable, Sabriel just may not survive... Garth Nix writes a beautiful and enchanting young adult fantasy novel that I recommend towards ages thirteen and up. Readers of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy and T.A. Barron's The Lost Years Of Merlin saga, will, undoubtedly, absolutely love this stunningly constructed novel of the wonderful Garth Nix.

Summary: Children's book? I think not...
Review: Can we say simply charming? This book, although is under the children's book category, is not in the right place! Although it might carry the beautifully vivid fantasies young readers enjoym there is also a great quality of depth and emotions in this book. Saying that this is a book of magic simply is not saying enough. It is a book of growing up, of fear, of wonder, of power, of weaknesses, and ultimately, of a young girl's life in a time where magic has been forgotten or corrupted and a dark shadow has re-gained its power over the land.........

Summary: Sabriel, a book full of excitment, romance, and adventure.
Review: This book is remarkable, and I couldn't put it down. It was just so exciting and it brought you into it's world. Sabriel was a very well scripted charecter and the magic was amazing. The thought that must have gone into this book must have been an amazing zmount. The way he ties in the present with a mystical twist. It's a great book and I give it five stars. Definitly one of my favorite books, on the top of my list.

Summary: Unforgetable!
Review: I think this book is the type that you never forget (hence the title of this review). It had adventure, humor, romance and everything else a good book should have. It shows death as it has never been shown before, not as heaven or hell but as a river that flows through nine gates. Sabriel is the perfect heroine, she changes all through the book starting as a high school senior who is searching for her father and gradualy becoming the Abhorsen who is defending both the old kingdom and the rest of the world from the dead. The other characters are mysterious, you are never quite sure what Mogget is and you don't find out about Touchstone until later on in the story. I hope you will read this book and enjoy it as much as I did because words to describe how good it is are failing me right now!( make sure you read Lirael daughter of the clayr as well)

Summary: A tense fantasy with some rough edges
Review: Sabriel, the daughter of a powerful magician, lives on the mundane side of the wall--in a school that could have been in England in the last century. When her father's duties call her to the wild and magical land, she finds herself under magical attack--and with awsome responsibility.

While fascinating, the world had several discontinuities, and Sabriel's peril and exhaustion appeared artificially severe. The narrative style didn't lend itself to smooth reading--despite the tense plot.

One hopes that Nix's next novel is more polished.

It has adventure, action, and like it says on the back of the book, a herione worthy of her role. I highly reccomened this book to other young readers.

Summary: Better even than Harry Potter!!
Review: Sabriel was possibly the best book that I have ever read. I could not put it down and had to reread it within a day and a half. It is possible that Sabriel could even best the beloved Harry Potter books of which I am an enormous fan. This book, Sabriel, by Garth Nix is a must read for all you fans of Fantasy. I could say that it has had a profound impact on my life and I think that it will touch yours in the same way. I laughed, cried, got embarrassed, and exuberent, and fearful along with Sabriel and her father. I was almost IN the book along with the characters and MY parents were quite put out that I was paying no attention what-so-ever to their conversations while this book was in my hands. I would stay up until 4 in the morning just to finish another chapter and then not be able to put it down the rest of the night. I would SO recommend SABRIEL by GARTH NIX to anyone and everyone. This is possibly the best book I have ever read and I must go and read it again to determine if Sabriel is THE BEST. This is the highest recommendation I can give Sabriel and if I could give it 4 million stars, I would in a heartbeat. Sabriel is a must read!!!!

Summary: Sabriel
Review: Sabriel is a fantisy book with exciting twists and turns on every page. You will get more interested while learning about the Old Kingdom and Anchinstire. The characters are remarkable and brilliantly come to life. In this book, Garth Nix writes about mind boggling theries on life and death. The book gets better as you go along. Subsequently, if you don't understand the begining, you soon will. If you think you will like Sabriel, you may want to try the series Fearless for a more interesting read. A younger reader may enjoy Harry Potter. Also, The Outsiders is a shorter but wonderful book.
