Rating: Summary: Boring one! Review: I am a Chinese. And I'm a Anne Rice fan. I like Vampire Chronicles so much. But this ends up in The Vampire Armand. This book makes me tired, asleep. It entirely lacks interesting points. All the sick sex, meaningless emotions, really make me tired. And Marius and Armand, the couple of lovers, their love history had been mentioned in other books so many times, that makes me exhausted, too. The Vampire Armand is a disappointed one.
Rating: Summary: Not an Immortal Review: The Vampire Armand was in total a decent book, but it was by far not one of Anne Rices masterpieces. Though she continues weaving fact with her fiction she failed to capture the alluringness that her other vampires share. When reading the novel I was always waiting for the action to pick up but much to my dismay it never did. For loyal Anne Rice fans the novel is a must read though it won't be one they most remember or enjoy. For new readers hoping to tap into the magic that others have discovered they should NOT begin with this book. In the end readers will find themselves thirsting for another book to satisfy their bloodlust.
Rating: Summary: Marius? A child molester? Review: Out of all the characters in the vampire chronicles, Armand was a mystery while Marius, next to Lestat, was one I most loved and admired. This book, while uncovering most of Armand's secrets and hidden past, has somehow made me lose interest in both of these characters. Although it had a few unexpected twists,(one which involves the night that Claudia died) it was mainly weak and without much content. Anne Rice has really done it this time. Not only did she reduce Marius to a mere pedophile, but she turned Armand into(before he was captured by the coven) an ungrateful brat. He (Armand) shows no strength of character or independent thinking whatsoever, only slaving for one master after another. I was also disgusted by the crudity and rawness that was displayed in this book. Maybe it was my misconception of perceiving Marius and Armand purely as father and son. Either way, I did not expect what this book was about to offer.
Rating: Summary: Reading this is like being Pooped on by a Flock of Pigeons Review: This book transcends bad. What can I say, it [was very weak]. The writing is dismal. There is no character development - there is character regression. The once great, engaging, tortured Armand is now a twerp.... And Marius, who used to be ruthless, powerful and subtle, is now a child-molesting Whiner. I remember while reading Interview for the first time some fifteen years ago imagining that I was interviewing Louie, and wondering how I'd react if I were in the presence of Lestat or Louie. Now, I know exactly what I'd do if I were in the presence of Marius and Armand. I'd slap Marius upside the head and make Armand finish the dishes....
Rating: Summary: Armand Rocks Review: Honestly this was the 1st book of 4 that I have read of Anne Rice. To say it was well written would be an under-statement. Due to Rice's extreme attention to detail, I never had to mentally aid or fill in any pieces of Armands elaborate life. She touches basis on many aspects of a young mans experience seeking love and acceptance. It did at some points seem a little 'riske' but given all of the texture of Armands previous life helps the reader to understand that he sought the love of stabilty and not love with men. Ulimately Armand's search for a true identity came in the form of two mortals. They became his alpha and omega; one young and mischeivious and the other old and seemingly stoic. I identified most with Armand because I myself, being 5'6" and 115 lbs, am almost always mis-caculated. This Man-child is an extraordinary character that should not be taken lightly; and after reading TVA, you too will never judge a book by its cover!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! But... Review: Again Anne Rice proves her talent. Everything you expect after THL and QOTD. After a short break in Body Thief and Memnoch, Mrs. Rice is back to what we expect out of the chronicles. Altough sometimes tough to get through some of the heated moments between Marius and Armand, it is still a very good read. I suggest reading Pandora before moving on to Armand if you have just finished reading Memnoch and you want to stay in order. I can't wait to move on to Merrick and Blood and Gold after I've finished the Mayfair Witches Trilogy. Give it up to Anne Rice. Damn she's good.
Rating: Summary: Rice did it agin!! Review: This book was a good add to Anne Rice`s works. We always got little hints and clues about Armand in the other novels and I`m glad to see that he has his chance to shine. From page one all the way to the end "Thevampire Armand" will keep you asking for more.
Rating: Summary: hmm.... Review: This was a fairly good book if you are a fan of the Vampire Chronicles. I felt that Mrs. Rice missed some parts like his experience with Lestat, especially when he threw him off the tower. She also overdid it with the homosexuality. Not that I'm a homophobic though. Also, Armand dragged on and on sometimes. That made it hard to read at some parts. Otherwise, it was pretty good. After reading this, he's not such a mystery anymore. So all in all, it was good, but certainly not the best.
Rating: Summary: Too many words; not enough action. Review: I am a fan of Ms. Rice's earlier books, but lately it seems everything she writes is more like a textbook history lesson done with purple prose. I found Armand to be an interesting idea and a good set up for a good story, but it somehow failed. I don't want to read four pages of prose about what color a satin pillow is. Usually, I forgive the purple prose in her vampire books because I figure the vampire sees the world through different, more sensitive eyes and they are poetic, gothy, angst ridden creatures anyway, but her last few books have been almost unbearable. I barely got through Armand. His relationship with Marius seemed very contrived and didn't have much of a point to it other than to showcase the sensuality of the vampires. I am now solid on never buying an Anne Rice Book again, unless I hear that she has quit with the 4000 word descriptions of trivial things. It is too bad because I enjoy her earlier work greatly.
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: The Vampire Armand is definitely one of the best books I've ever read. It is so beautifully written that I've wanted to cry on a number of occasions. My intrigue with Armand, (Louie is my favorite, however) began when I first read a review of this book. Now, that I'm half way through it, I can't put it down. Armand's life is way, way different than I had expected it to be when I first saw him in Interview with a Vampire (which I have yet to read). Anne Rice's way of manipulating words to tell his story, which at times are quite racy and gruesome, are marvelous. And as an aspiring writer myself, can only hope that I have half the talent. This is the first I've read in the Vampire Chronicles, but surely not my last.
