Rating: Summary: Enjoyable (3.4 on a scale of 1 o 5) Review: "PS, I Love You" is an entertaining and enjoyable read. Holly, the thirty year old heroine, lives in Dublin and loves her life. Then fate delivers a brutal blow: her beloved husband dies and leaves her a very young widow. The book recounts Holly's first year after her husband's death. His final gift to her is a series of notes to be opened at the beginning of each month. Each note contains one suggestion to help Holly move on with her life. And each note is signed "PS, I love you." The book is quite moving as it depicts Holly's struggle to follow her husband's suggestions-give away his clothes, take a trip with her friends-and continue living. She realizes that her life had centered almost completely on her husband--not necessarily a good thing-and now, for the first time, she has to create a life for herself. My only complaint with the book is that I found the writing amateurish at times. The plot, the characters and the ending were all satisfying and fully developed. However, I winced at some of the writing. Still I would recommend this book to chick lit lovers everywhere.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!! Review: Hard to believe the neg reviews. This book is awesome! I am not even done yet, but I've gotten on the web to find the author's website to see what else she's done. I think you can really feel all the emotions and experiences of the characters. It's sad, hilarious, romantic, and hopeful all in one. It has had me laughing out, and crying quietly. I have already recommended it to my friends and family. Darn good book!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful.... Review: Holly always joked that she would never be able to live without the love of her life Gerry. Having been an item since Junior High Holly and Gerry were always there for each other. Jokingly Gerry once said that he would leave her a list if he ever left, so that she could get through life without him...
Months after the couple married Gerry was disgnosed with a life threatening illness which he finally sucommed to and passed away. Holly was devestaded and simply did not know what to do without her other half. For months she grieved alone in her home, until the day her mother calls telling her that she has a package for her. All she knows is that the package has her name on it along with one word, LIST!
Upon recieving the package Holly finds that Gerry did indeed leave her a list! There are tiny notes for each month, not to be opened until the date on the envelope, each is a cleaver thing to help Holly get her life back together without him, all ending with the phrase, PS I LOVE YOU!
PS I LOVE YOU is an amazing story of love and loss. It will have you laughing and crying. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books of 2004! Review: I bought this as a book on tape and found myself going on errands all over town just to listen to it! I suggest any married person (or those in a long term relationship) read this book - it will make you see and love your spouse in a whole new way. Hope they make a movie!
Rating: Summary: Cried my eyes out Review: I bought this book at the airport, thinking it was going to be awful. I enjoyed this book so much I read it in a week. I was sitting on the beach in Canaries crying my eyes out, so much so that I had to take off my sunglasses and dry my eyes. I was there on a girlie holiday with my mam and sister. My mam though there was someghing wrong with me! It is an excellent book and would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: absolutely brilliant!! Review: i could not put this book down nor did i want it to end! a true love story!!!
Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: I have to say that I really liked this book! It really took a different look at coping with the loss of a loved one. The story follows a character, Holly, who recently lost her husband at a very young age. The book follows her and her close friends through the year that follows. Holly has received notes from her husband, one for each month, that are intended to help her move on with her life, in a positive direction. I was amazed how on one page I was crying and at the next I was laughing, and two pages later crying again! My only disappoinment with the book is that the age of the author can be seen in some immature aspects of the book, such as the partying and drinking of the characters. However, it is still a great read, and I would recommend it to any female looking for a unique, quick read!
Rating: Summary: A must read for any book lover! Review: I heard about this book from a friend, and picked it up thinking it would be a good entertaining book to pass time. So, I picked it up and then put it down when I was done! Although I can't relate to the character, oftentimes the writing reminded me of others I had lost, relating to my friends and family, and just sucked me in. Most enjoyable was the banter between Holly and her friends, and the lingo from native UK. What I found most surprising, is that someone as young as Ms. Ahern could write with such depth, and put this kind of life experience in to words, writing with what one would assume is the is the knowledge of someone who has lived much longer and experience so much more. Bravo, and keep them coming!
Rating: Summary: do yourself a favor and skip this novel please Review: I tried to get into this book, I really did. However, her cliched, 4th grade level writing was so distracting that I had to stop by page 50. I have friends who are english majors and would love to have their fiction published, and Ms. Ahern gives a bad name to those who actually know how to create fresh characters and believable dialogue. Recommended reading: The Birth of Venus (Sarah Dunant), The Time Traveler's Wife (Audrey Niffenegger), and if you like good chick-lit, Good in Bed (Jennifer Weiner).
Rating: Summary: She got it right Review: Oh my gosh- How did someone who has never experienced such a loss get this so right. I lost my Charlie last May and have gone through everything described in the book. How I wish I had a list and envelopes waiting for me each month to help me get through this. I read the book with many tears, but it was such a source of support for me, too. The many months and years ahead of me with so many memories will continue to be difficult, but "In the meantime, (I will) just live." Thanks Cecelia~
