Review: Princess in the Spotlight

By Meg Cabot

Princess in the Spotlight is a story about Amelia Thermopolis, Mia for short. She is 15 years old and lives in New York City. Mia's mom and dad are divorced and she lives with her mom, she attends Albert Einstein High School. Lilly Moscovitze is Mia's best friend and hosts her own TV show call Lilly Tells it Like it is. Lilly's brother's name is Michael, who Mia has a big crush on. Mia's Grandmother is Queen of Genovia, a place in Europe. Now meaning that Mia is the princess of Genovia.

We learn about Mia's life through her diary entries every day from, October 20th through October 31st. This week is important because of the many harassments and crazy and exciting things that happen in Mia's life. The first surprise is that Mia's mom revealed that she was pregnant and that Mr. Gianini, Mia's algebra teacher, was the father - and they weren't even married!
They do decide to get married, but the plans for the wedding get confusing. The couple wanted was a wedding with close friends and family, but Mia's grandmother wants something more fancy. Both the couple and the grandmother get their wish in an unusual way.

Because Mia is a princess, many reporters want to interview her. Mia's grandmother arranged an interview with a very famous reporter named Beverly Bellerieve. During the interview, Mia gets nervous and tells some inappropriate things about the faculty and the students of Albert Einstein High. She talks about a class being worthless and the teacher is never there. The next day at school Mia gets only negative feedback from what she said, which is broadcasted over many TV channels.

I enjoyed reading this book because there were many crazy events and, I would never know what was going to happen next! Even though Mia is a princess she has an ordinary life with ordinary friends.

I have a hard time relating my life to the life of Mia Thermopolis for many reasons. First I am not a princess or anyone famous, my parents live a normal married life. I can never imagine being related to a Queen of a European country, and having interviews every-other week.

I recommend Princess in the Spotlight because I thought that many parts could relate to some ones real life. This was also a great story to read because it would make me fell the expressions such as sad, happy, confused, and it would always make we wonder about what would happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in books what will always make you wonder and laugh. I had a lot of fun reading this book and I am looking forward to reading the next coming series!

Summary: A hilarious continuation of Mia's story.
Review: It's been a month since Mia got the shock of her life and found out she was a princess, and the sole heir to the throne of Genovia. But things haven't gotten any easier - in fact, they've gotten even worse! It's bad enough that Mia's mom is dating her algebra teacher, Mr. G. - but then she announces that she's pregnant! And then her mom and Mr. G. announce that they will be getting married! Of course, with all these horrible things happening, Mia thinks it can't get any worse - until an utterly humiliating interview with her appears on TV and her Grandmere begins to plan a royal wedding for the happy couple. But if anyone can get through all this, it's Mia, who tells it all in her journal, in her usual, hilarious style. This wonderfully funny book continues Mia's story, right from where the first book left off. I can't wait to read the third book in the series.

Summary: Definately.....good.
Review: This book is great for someone who has read the first book already and wants to know more about young Mia Thermopolis. The storyline is pretty good but Meg Cabot could've done better. Still a great read.

Review: PRINCESS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
THE PRINCESS DIARIES, VOLUME II

By Meg Cabot

Princess in the Spotlight is about a girl named Mia. Who has just found out that she is the princess of a small European country called Genovia. In this book she runs into a many problems. For instance, her mother is getting married to her algebra teacher and having his baby, her grandmere is planning a fancy wedding for them that they do not want , reporters are always following Mia around and taking pictures of her and Mia has a secret admirer ,but she cannot find out who he is. She hopes that he is her best friend's brother, Michael.
The main characters in this book are Princess Mia, her dad Philipe, her grandmere, who is queen of Genovia, Mia's mother and step father to be,and her best friend Lily and all of the people that come along with her.
My favorite person in this book is Mia's cousin Hank. He comes to visit Mia from a farm in Indiana because her mom is about to married. When Hank shows up he is wearing farmer clothes but by the end of the book, he is a New York underwear model and is wearing all of these fancy clothes that Mia could not ever imagine him wearing. Mia is happy for him because he has finally made his dream.
I liked this book alot because it has many cliff hangers. So all I wanted to do was read this book. My favorite part in this book is when Mia finds out who her secret admirer is. She is very surprised as to who it is. She would have never guessed that it was this person. My least favorite part in this book is when her grandmere is planning the huge wedding for Mia's mom and will not listen to Mia when she tells her that her mom does not want a big wedding.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes being on cliff hangers for the whole book. It would be best for preteen or teenage girls.

Summary: A hysterical read that's a bit too stereotypical...
Review: When I first decided to write this review, I was going to give it 5 starts, because honestly, I think it was a great, and very hysterical read. However, after reading Susan Williams's review, I realized that she had some very good points, and that this book isn't perfect. It's main fault is the Mia is very stereotypical, and really a bit stupid for my liking. Since Williams did such a fantastic job dissing this book (in a thoughtful way though), I won't go into the details, but encourage you to take a look at her review.

However, the Princess in the Spotlight, was very comical, and I found my self laughing at the turn of very page. It has everything a 7th to 9th grade girl wants in a "fun read" book, romance, friendship, a non-realism aspect (she's a princess for God's sake!) a crazy relationship between Mia's mom and algebra teacher... You get the gist of it. In conclusion, I would recommend this book as a purely fun read, but not as something you should expect to get a great insight out of. Oh, and please read Volume I first, it makes this book sooooo much funnier!

Review: This book was a great continuation to the first book and motion picture The Princess Diaries. Between her mother's surprising news, e-mails from a secret admirer, and failing algebra, you discover Amelia's life as a princess isn't as easy as you may think in this modern day fairytale. This young adult fiction novel will appeal to all the preteen and teen princesses at heart. As a teenager myself I laughed along as Mia and her friends shared many of the same experiences that are similar to ones I have had in my own life. The diary format of the book makes you feel like you're at home in your room reading your own diary. This is a book that will stick to your fingers like superglue; you definitely won't want to put it down.

Review: I loved this book the suspence made you want to never put the book down. Mia has just found out she is the crown princess of Genoiva, a small country in Europe. Well if that's not bad enough on top of that she is a loser in high school. Mia never guessed what cruve balls life would throw her next. Then her mother had the most unexpected news ever. Mia just wanted to be normal, but no her Grandmere has to get her an interview on live national television!!! Well,Mia then almost gets her teacher fired and her best friend goes pyscho on her, but the best part in Mia's life right now is the secret admirer who keeps e-mailing her. This is the most drama you'll ever read! You'll never guess what life will throw at Mia next!! This is a great story I would recamend this book to anyone to read.
