Rating: Summary: Geshe Chekawa's "Training the Mind in Seven Points" Review: Developing unconditional love and compassion for all living beings is the heart of Buddhist practice. The powerful methods of training the mind revealed in this book, which guide us towards a universal compassion, have been used for centuries to solve daily problems and even cure mental and physical diseases. In this highly regarded explanation of the celebrated Mahayana Buddhist text, Training the Mind in Seven Points, Geshe Kelsang also explains with perfect clarity how all life situations - even the most difficult - can be transformed into opportunities for spiritual development, and he provides us with an indispensable companion for our day-to-day life.
Rating: Summary: A way to change your heart forever Review: I find myself very inspired by the example of the Kadampa practitioners in this book, who managed to change their hearts through meditation. The meditation on equalizing self with others - recognizing that everyone equally wants to be happy and free from suffering - made a big difference to my life the moment I started to try and do it. The other meditations in the sequence are also enormously practical, as well as enormously effective. I've come to figure out from my own limited experience that it really must be possible to change your heart, for good. Kudos to Geshe Kelsang for being so accurate and precise in his instructions - something I have also noticed from the other books of his that I have read.
Rating: Summary: Very Special Book Review: This is a very special book. I've read it cover to cover and tried to put some of the concepts and techniques into practice. To the extent that I can follow the suggestions my life has improved. I've read some of Geshe Kelsang's other books and they are all fantastic, but I have a certain affinity for this one. It's a real roadmap to psychological and spiritual health IMHO.
Rating: Summary: Compassion Completely Transformed My Life Review: Through this profound book, you will learn, as I have been blessed to learn that when you are giving compassion and understanding to others, it will transcend your ego's need to "win" or "control" or "take" because you cannot take and give at the same time. You will learn that when you feel any pain from others, as you GIVE compassion and understanding to others, you are free from the need for it to come from others. This awareness and integration into your heart, mind and soul will free you from all suffering. Once you "get it" there will be a complete change in how you view life, and the people who used to "trigger" your emotional and subconscious reactions. You will become mindful, and aware of your thoughts, judgments, and "self cherishing" desires. Once you become aware of them, you will be free from them, and thus you will become free from pain. You will become "awakened" and live in genuine joy, as you give compassion and understanding to others. The teachings in this book will genuinely help transform any pain you have in your life. A MUST Read! Barbara Rose, author of 'Individual Power' and 'If God Was Like Man'
