Rating: Summary: Superb Treatment of David's Life! Review: A few years ago the women's Bible study in my church went through the video version of "A Heart Like His." I heard glowing reviews from one lady after another, speaking of how pertinent and powerful the material was. Unfortunately, it was then geared exclusively to women, so I never watched the videos myself. With the memory of those glowing reviews still fresh in mind, I decided to purchase the book version and see for myself if Beth Moore's teaching lived up to its reputation. I was certainly NOT disappointed. This book is an outstanding treatment of the triumphs and the tragedies of Israel's most famous king. Moore takes practically every significant incident from David's life and applies the spiritual principles to life today. Through her exposition here, the reader gets to know David much better, and learns why he has been called "a man after God's own heart." The author's treatment is chronological, starting from the events surrounding David's emergence on the Biblical scene as a young boy to the transfer of his throne as an old man to his son Solomon. I recommend this book very highly to anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of the life of King David. The book is very easy reading, yet is profound in its insights. Men and women, clergy and laity alike will benefit from Moore's painstakingly thorough work.

Rating: Summary: Wonderful book teaching through the Bible for women today Review: A wonderful work, Beth, is available to God to be used, and ends up blessing all of us. Our women's Bible Study is just finishing this work. All the women are anxious to do another work by Beth, and love her style of waiting on the Lord to speak to her, and acting in obedience. It has taught me many things that I can use in my daily life as a christian.
Rating: Summary: This book is a life changing book. You must read it! Review: Beth Moore breaks open David's life in a soft, yet direct fashion. She looks at every aspect of David's life. She starts with Samuel and Hannah. She goes on to King Saul and how his disobedience cost him the kingdom. She then walks you through David's life as if she were there as a participant. The incredible way that she reaches into heaven and brings down David's story is amazingly breathtaking. This book is one that you will find hard to put down. You will walk away from this book with a greater understanding of David, God, and yourself.
Rating: Summary: A moving, humorous, tearful journey through David's life Review: Beth's book is a wonderfully written journey through the life of a man who sought God's own heart. She fluctuates between humorous observations on the actions of the Biblical characters I thought I knew so well, and touching parallels to the life of the ultimate "Son of Man". This book held me captivated from the introduction to the final period. I look forward to more books like this from Beth.

Rating: Summary: ¿Your heart will soar, your spirit will break ...¿ Review: That's what author, speaker and Bible student Beth Moore says about the life of David -- and she'll have those who read her new book, A Heart Like His: Intimate Reflection on the Life of David, nodding in agreement. Moore says her study of the life of this renowned Bible figure is devoted to answering practical questions about how we, too, can be a person after God's own heart. "We begin with Scripture's first mention of David," she explains, "and end with his last breath." That means readers meet the man at his best and worst, finding surprising and often overlooked application from his life. "You will climb to the heights of the most noble human emotions and behavior," Moore explains, "and you will plummet to the depths of our sin nature." "The study of David excites me for many reasons," she relates. In addition to perhaps best prefiguring Christ and the Gospel in relation to other Old Testament characters, David painfully proves the depths to which one can fall after reaching such heights. "The contrast between these consecutive seasons of David's life is staggering," Moore says. Divided into nine sections, A Heart Like His begins with a look at the sheep-tending, giant-slaying boy and an amazing covenant with God. With poignant, bittersweet detail, it recounts the doomed friendship of Jonathon and David, a king's ascension to a long awaited throne, and a rooftop decision that would mark a turning point in the character of a man. "Our God gave no insignificant space to the chronicles of David's life. He was the object of much love and continues to be the object of much learning," Moore relates. "God did not cast away David. God did not forsake him when he was old. The God whose faithfulness endures to all generations completed the good work He started in a shepherd."
Rating: Summary: Life-changing experience with God!!! Review: This Bible study is awesome!!! I did it my freshman year of college in a small group of other students, and it absolutely changed my life. Beth Moore is an excellent teacher, and God really spoke to me through her using this study. I would recommend it for anyone seeking a deeper relationship with Christ!!
Rating: Summary: This book is a life changing book. You must read it! Review: This study was a life-changing experience for me. I began the study with a ladies' group, at a military chapel, and wasn't able to attend regularly. However, I continued giving my time to it, almost every day, and each time I got into it, I received multiples of blessings. This study called me into accountability for sins I had not previously recognized, and opened up new ways for me to look at God. I learned that He is worthy of so much more than I had been giving. Giving more to God has brought so many blessings into my life, such as peace, assurance, confidence, sweeter fellowship with Him, and a more Godly lifestyle. I am by no means perfect, but I did grow significantly in the few months it took me to complete this study.
