Rating: Summary: Grayson Thane Makes All the Difference Review: Grayson Thane as the "romantic hero" is what sets this book apart from the rest. He is such an intriguing (not to mention complex) character that he thoroughly breaks the mold of the normal man in a romance novel. He is scarred from a bad past, he's funny, and he isn't physically perfect. He comes through on the page not just as a male lead in a romance novel, but instead as a genuine human being with very real thoughts and emotions. The chemistry between him and Brianna Concannon is undeniable, and they make the ideal couple. If you like Nora Roberts, you'll obviously love this book. But even if you aren't usually a fan of Roberts's books, try this one out. The characters and settings are both beautifully drawn, and the love story is very genuine.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE Nora Roberts Books Review: Having said that, let me say that this trilogy of Born In is one of my favorites. In fact, this set was my introduction to Nora Roberts and I have been a big fan ever after. If you enjoy Nora Roberts books, you will enjoy this one. If you have not read any Nora Roberts books, you are in for a treat. The way Nora Roberts weaves romance with healing, familial ties, and Ireland is wonderful. Although this makes a great bathtub book, it is much more than that.
Rating: Summary: A good romance Review: I didn't read either of the other books in this series but this one came into my hands through a friend. I liked both Brianna and Grayson, and it's a pretty straightforward romance. The third sister storyline is obviously intended as the link to "Born in Shame", but it's not as intriguing or mysterious a link as is the one of young Seth in the Quinn brothers trilogy. Those books are even more satisfying, but this was perfectly entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: I enjoy reading books by Nora Roberts, but somehow, Born In Ice just bored me. Nothing in the story "capitvated" or "grabbed" me, I found it sooo sloooow and I just could not get into the book.
Rating: Summary: From an Irish point of view... Review: I generally love all of Nora Roberts' books, but this series is painful. Admittedly, Born in Ice is better than Born in Fire, but it's still bad. My main problem is that it's set in Ireland and unfortunately, the author is completely unable to write Irish dialogue authentically. It's full of stereotypical Irish sayings which no-one in Ireland says (except to tourists) and for some reason the heroine starts to speak in Gaelic when she's all passionate.. I can't really see that happening.. BUT I still gave it 2 stars as opposed to none because I recognise that it may not be as irritating for other people.. but it definitely irritated me.
Rating: Summary: Not what i have come to expect from roberts Review: i hated the heroine. i thought she was insipid and boring and i had not idea why the hero fell in love with her.
Rating: Summary: Best Nora Roberts Book I've Read Review: I have read many of Nora Roberts books, starting with "Public Secrets" and this is by far my favorite of all of them. The "Born In" trillogy was hands down my favorite, although I am loving the Quinn brothers trillogy as well. They can't print these books fast enough for me.
Rating: Summary: So dull, I couldn't finish it...zzzzz Review: I have read rave reviews about the Born In... trilogy, so I grabbed the first one I could get a hold of, Born in Ice. I slogged through the first six chapters, then skimmed the rest. I found both lead characters just incredibly dull. They were so repressed, every emotion seemed buried under a thick woolen sweater. The heroine spent most of her time cooking and hanging out laundry. The hero wrote things he didn't want anyone else to look at. Even their lovemaking was subdued and furtive, a struggle under the blankets and then quick smooth things down so no one else will notice. I would say they weren't only born in ice, but they stayed that way, too. I ended up skimming the book because these characters, and their tenuous story, just could not interest me; I found it a very realistic portrayal of some very uninteresting people. Rabid Roberts fans will of course not agree, but I didn't care for it.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful story Review: I have read the whole "born in" trilogy and this was my favorite one. The serenity and coolness of Brianna matched with the anxiousness and humor of Grayson was irresistable. Nora Roberts is such a gifted novelist and a book like this gives all us romantics hope. This story has everything, passion, humor, seriousness, and sadness enough to make you cry. The way she had Grayson's catch phrase "Let me tell you a story" throughout the book was brilliant because you never knew what type of story it was, be it happy or sad. It's a novel of great depth and definately does not fall in the "Trashy Romance Novel" catagory that so many people are apt to put these types of books in. If you're a big "Born in Fire" fan also, never fear. Maggie and Rogan are also woven through this spellbinding tale. I have reread this book many times and never fail to cry at the end.
Rating: Summary: One of her best! Review: I have read this book 3 times now, silly as that sounds. But the story is fun and compelling. A great combination for a romance. Book two of the "Born in..." trilogy, it's my favorite in the set. The characters are very likeable, you'll find yourself cheering them on. Anyone interested in Ireland, even in a remote kind of way, will enjoy the descriptions of the land and people, the lilt of the accents, and the magic of the place. Grayson Thane--what a great name! Makes me wanna run off to Ireland, open a bed and breakfast and write a novel. Guess this book is rather inspiring!
