Rating: Summary: Wow! This book was so emotional! Review: Title: BELL PRATER'S BOY Woodrow comes to live with his grandparents when his mother mysteriously disappears one morning, and so begins an entirely new life for the country boy. Gypsy has never seen the likes of Woodrow Prater, but she finds that despite his messy appearance and crossed eyes, he is one of the nicest boys in the town. Gypsy is the main character of this story, and throughout the book, she seems to have a happy outward appearance. It is only through her new best friend that she is able to come to terms with her father's death, and her new stepfather. I found that this book was very touching and real. Many students with stepfathers or stepmothers can easily identify with the hardships that both Gypsy and Woodrow face. I enjoyed finding out the ending of the story, and was relieved at the unexpected outcome. I personally would recommend this book to anyone of all ages. Ruth White did an exceptional job!
Rating: Summary: This book is the greatest book in history. Review: This book is about a boy whose mother disappeared . He had to learn to accept his mothers disappearence but,was not that easy. This book is a wonderful book at first I it would be really dumb because of its title.I mean he got a second chance at life.Although he cant realize that his mother is never coming back.I can honestly say that I can relate to him thats what makes the book so intresting . This book happens to put you in the place of the character you can feel and indure there pain and suffering. You have to use your imangination to understand what is going on throughout this whole story.I really hope that you have the time to pick up this reviting book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: I found this book to be excellent. The fact that both children are dealing with the loss of a parent. It is also very insightful as to the coping mechanisms that children use. Both Gypsy and Woodrow lost a parent and in a years time the pain they both experienced was worked through with the help of a true friendship. In today's siciety I'd say everyone could learn somethig about acceptance from this book.
Rating: Summary: A "must read" for middle school students! Review: I laughed. I sang. I cried. I was astounded as I read this book aloud to my class! Woodrow is so sad but wise. Gypsy mystified by her nightmares. These two first cousins learn family secrets and tragedies. Woodrow and Gyspsy share the pains and sorrows as a result of these secrets. I was totally fascinated by the character of Blind Benny and sang the tunes he sang in the book to my students. As a life long resident of WV, the setting of Coal Station, VA and growing up in the 1950's brought back alot of childhood memories--some happy, some sad. This book has a surprise ending-an ending to which many of us can relate. If you liked the movie,October Sky, you will like the setting of Belle Prater's Boy.
Rating: Summary: Finely drawn Review: This is an excellent, poignant tale with good characters that I really cared about. White weaves a lot of interesting subplots into it, and the results go to the heart.
Rating: Summary: Well written Review: This is probably one of the best books I have ever read. I like the characters and plot.
Rating: Summary: This is a mysterious book about how Belle Prater dissappers. Review: This book is about Woodrow Prater, and how his mother dissapered. A secret belay inside this story of why she dissappered.
Rating: Summary: Well written and it keeps you wondering Review: I love this book! Every parent should buy this book for every child in their generation. Once you read the first chapter you can't put this book down. I recommend this book to all ages
Rating: Summary: not worth it Review: When I saw that this book was an award winner, I was surprised. The plot was hard to follow and extremely boring! The characters were unrealistic and the author would talk about things she never explained. It put me to sleep.
Rating: Summary: A lady name Belle Prater vanishes from the face of the Earth Review: I really, really love this book! It is soooooo cool! It's so neat you'll want to read the ending first. This book is full of mysteries!
