Summary: An inspiration to us all!
Review: After seeing Michael J. Fox on the Late Show with David Letterman promoting his new book I was amazed at how positive and happy he was. I wanted to know what made him such a lucky man, so I picked up a copy of his book. He tells a good deal about his past, more than I expected, and then focuses on his diagnosis and how it has affected his life up until now. Not only is this book a must for anyone with Young Onset PD, it's for anyone who could benefit from a more positive outlook in life no matter what their going through. Out of all the role models in today's society, Michael J. Fox is my number one on my list. After reading this book, you just might feel the same way. I'm glad he wrote this book because not only will it help those who are dealing with Parkinson's disease, it helps people like me understand what it's like to be in their shoes. Michael J. Fox is an inspiration to us all.

Summary: Lucky Fans
Review: We are lucky fans indeed. This was an outstanding, eloquently written, eye-opening account of Michael J. Fox, boy nextdoor, the best thing since peanut butter, and TV sitcom wunderkind. A big fan of Alex P. Keaton (I had a poster on my bedroom door), I grew up with Family Ties and Back to the Future. But in reality, we hardly knew this MJ. His book tells all, and the homage he pays to his wife and family is about as good as it gets. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and then you'll want to get up and go do something about Parkinson's. A must-read for any child of the 80s who grew up with him in our hearts.

Summary: Sad that it takes PD to realize life value....
Review: I am very ambivalent about this book. Growing up watching and admiring Mike Fox from Family ties to Spin City and all in between, I thought him more humble. Maybe I didnt need to know about his wild partying/drinking days, or the way he got away with speeding, or how an abundance of free merchandice landed at his door step. How his rocket to celebrity along with piles of wealth colaborate with his Parkinsons disease, explains why he considers himself a "lucky man", but I would have been happy with the image I had created in my mind as a good ol' boy, kid next door, and just knowing his symptoms and harrowing expierence leading up to a diagnosis. For what ever reason he sought to expose himself to the public is fine and just, but maybe a little too much information? I did enjoy the read and learning of his childhood and family. So, I guess the judgement is for you to make. Happy reading.

Summary: Lucky reader to read "Lucky Man"
Review: Micheal J. Fox is impressively candid in his autobiograpy. His worldview and his humor shine through and I found it to be a page turner. I appreciate Michael inviting the world into his life and struggle with P.D. and wish people can gather hope from a better world view that doesn't always portray us as victims.

Summary: Mike, we hardly knew 'ye
Review: Michael J. Fox has written a decent book, I'll give him that. But there wasn't enough of the "Cher snubbed me" or "Eric Stoltz screwed up 'Back to the Future'" factoids to make it particularly biting or interesting. MJF also does a fair job of trying to blur aspects of his character, such as his politics, while at the same time he feigns total candor.

And may I say how glad I am he found his wife. The combination of an Canadian enlisted man's son and an Upper East Side, Park Avenue living, privately-schooled JAP actress is a little odd. But God bless 'em.

Summary: A Lucky Reader
Review: Rarely have I been moved by a personal memoire the way that I was moved by this book. Most would consider Parkinson's Disease a horrible curse. To get a glimpse into the mind of a man who has taken this curse and turned it into a blessing is a rare and life altering opportunity. If you have ever complained about your life then reading this book will leave you feeling a bit ashamed and will send you away looking for the ray of light in every situation. Required reading for everyone.

Summary: I'm a "Lucky Man" for having read this book...
Review: Like many others, I grew up with MJF in my home every week. He always has been one of my all time favorite entertainers. This book was everything that I had hoped for and more. I really appreciated his honesty, candor, humility, and wry humor, even in regards to himself.
This book has all the fascinating behind the scenes info that people want to hear about from the Family Ties days and the movies, but Mike always finds a way to bring in the personal touches and balance the book out with his heart.
This book is the perfect antidote and opposite to so many of these ghost written, polished "biographies" that come out. This was no arrogant movie star writing this book! Furthest thing from it!
I literally couldn't put this book down when I started reading it. Among his many talents, he certainly can add writing to the list. I can easily recommend this book to everyone. People that don't like to read will after reading something like this.
Thanks for taking the time to share all of this with us, Mike. The reason I am calling him Mike is because he feels like a friend of mine after all these years and especially after reading this book. I think a lot of us have felt that way. You certainly will after reading this book.
I hope to see you in my home and in the theater again soon, Mike! Best Wishes and God Bless! Keep writing!

Summary: Honest and moving
Review: Let me state it up front: I have a loved one with Parkinson's Disease. And I learned more about it from MJF than I have from my only family. It's a difficult disease to talk about and truly understand because the future it promises is (at least as I write this) so bleak. This book is so frank and real that it has opened the doors of discussion within my family. For that, Michael J., I must thank you.

As a celebrity autobiography, it's also very good. He is more open and unsparing about himself that most stars who put pen to paper. (In that regard, he reminded me of Mary Tyler Moore and her autobiography of about six or seven years ago.) I almost with Tracy Pollan would write her version of these events. She is such a strong character in this book that I came away wondering if the thoughts and motivations applied to her by her husband were a true reflection.

Summary: Nice to read about my experience with neurology!
Review: I found it comforting to read words that described my experiences with neurologist. From 1997 to 2001 I went to one neurologist after another and was finally diagnosed with dopa-responsive dystonia for which I take Sinemet. Even though M. J. Fox writes that if you Sinemet works for you, you definitely have Parkinson's - it isn't the case for me. However, I can totally identify with just about everything he describes in the book. I bought the book to learn more about his experience with disease rather than his memoirs. It's a great story and recommend the book.

Summary: Lucky us
Review: I actually read the regular hard back version. It was fascinating and I could relate to so many parts. The man is definitely more than 5'5". He's not only a versatile commedian, actor and director, but a great writer. I couldn't put the book down and won't ever forget it. I was amazed to read the events behind-the-scenes during the making of some of my favorite films. I can't fathom that some of these projects came close to being filmed with someone else. I also recommend seeing the interview with Charlie Rose. I wish Michael the best aand that I had words to do justice to this book and all the other works of Michael Fox.
