Summary: Good Read
Review: MJF is someone to admire. He has done a lot to advance the fight against Parkinson's Disease and boost public awareness. This book is a good read with helpful info about PD. Another good book with real street smart advice on how to live your best life with PD is HOPE: four keys to a better quality of life for Parkinson's People, also available from Amazon.

Summary: AN UP AND DOWN ROLLER COASTER LIFE
Review: This is the resume of a life very well told. Michael J. Fox is a positive force in our world and I am so glad I read his book. His acting talent is self explanatory and the force of his book is not in the entertainment realm, but in his personal evaluations and description of the highlights and lowlights of his life....so far. It is a fun-to-read story and enlightening one at the same time. He was a starving actor for a relatively short time (3 yrs.), but also finding work when desperation time showed up. I hope he writes more as Michael is an inspiration and a joy!

Summary: Interesting but slow
Review: Perhaps not being an American I'm not as familiar with the way America received the news that Fox had Parkinson's Disease, and therefore not as fascinated at how he would tell this story - but I didn't find myself engrossed in this book. I was interested to read Fox's tale of how he came to Family Ties, his discovery and eventual acceptance of the disease, and the downturn he experienced in his career during the early 90's, but for me the book moves slowly and Fox devotes too much time to recounting his emotional state of mind. It's not a particularly entertaining read either, Fox is clearly skilled in comedic acting rather than comedic writing. I don't think I feel Fox has left anything out of this book - perhaps he's just put too much in.

Summary: Michael, in a way that makes his "character" shine!
Review: This review will not only uphold the dignity of a man that has exposed himself so completely to the world but, in a strange twist of irony, I would like to share a personal 'chance' happenstance that made my reading of this book very serendipitous. I began reading this book in a local bookstore while I sipped a coffee. I had not been on vacation but, I had gone to Gainesville, Fl., for a medical procedure that was to begin a very real change in my life. As I began to read the first few pages I was awe-struck to find that as my own personal "fight" with illness was scheduled to end in Gainesville, Fl., Michael's journey with Parkinsons had begun in the same city. I was immediately hooked and bought the book to read while I was in the hospital. I read the book in the matter of 3 sittings. I can say this, I now care more for the person of Michael A Fox, than I ever did for Alex Keaton or Marty Mcfly. I have become a true fan of the man Michael A. Fox. In case your wondering I am not mental Michaels real name is Michael A Fox. I recommed this book to anyone who hase faced a "life controlling problem". My own problem is daily meeting its demise, while Michael daily meets the challenges of Parkinsons. He is more than a Lucky Man, as this book will show he is a true artisian to his craft, a man of character, and finaly a role model for the rest of us, who fail, get up and try again. Thanks Michael. Your Nana would be proud!

Summary: Reading this book is a life-changing experience
Review: This book is a must-read. Rarely is an autobiography written with such honesty and candor. There are no rose-coloured glasses in Michael J Fox's wardrobe, he really does tell it like it is.
For me, this book was quite literally un-put-downable. Not only did I learn a great deal about a disease I didn't really understand, but somehow it changed how I look at my own life. This was not necessarily just because I found myself so unbelievably grateful for my own health, but also because it encourages you to look for the good in any experience. The amount of good, the amount of grace, that Fox has found in his experience of Parkinson's Disease is both humbling and encouraging.
This sounds such an odd thing to say when someone is writing of their experience of a life-threatening disease, but this is the funniest, most uplifting book I think I have ever read. It may make you cry, but it will also fill you with an incredible sense of joy and hope for the future.
I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Summary: The Little Giant
Review: I have been a fan of Michael J. Fox since the first Back to the Future movie and his Family Ties tv series. While I admire Michael for his acting skills, I especially admire him for his courage and positive attitude and, like Christopher Reeve, to use his malady to help fight this disease.Notice Michael is always upbeat and positive during his tv appearances. He never says, "Why me. I'm so young." Michael J. Fox may be short in stature but to hs millions of fans, he stands like a dime in a barrel of nickels.I enjoyed reading this book and I hope that Michael will follow it up with yet another.Michael J. Fox--the little Giant.

Summary: Couldn't put it down!
Review: Before I read this book, I didn't know a whole lot about Michael J. Fox- I only saw him in the "Back to the Future" movies. I knew that he had some kind of disease, but I didn't know what it was all about. One day, (a couple days before "Lucky Man" came in the stores) I was watching my "Back to the Future" movies again and I realized how much I really like him. I am 14 years old and go through obessions with celebrities, especially actors, where once I see their face, I have to know everything about them. (I went through this with Haley Joel Osment after seeing A.I. and Pay It Forward). You probably think I'm crazy now. Anyways, back to my story. So I was online and found out that MJF had a book coming out, and when I found out what it was about, I knew I had to get it. So we went to Borders on the cold, rainy day the book came out. I was on my school Spring Break at this time, and read this book this whole time. (I don't want to explain the whole book- read someone else's review). I must say that I fell asleep, anticipating the next morning when I would be able to read more of the book. After reading "Lucky Man", I watched re-runs of "Family Ties" and "Spin City" and watched all of his old movies (that I could find). I still think he's cute - even though he's old enough to be my father! (I'm really sorry if you thought my review was dumb)

Summary: Lucky Listener
Review: At the beginning of Lucky Man, Fox notes that he has changed so fundamentally from having Parkinson's Disease that were someone to say they could wipe PD from the last 10 years of his life, he would tell the person to take a hike. "Sure," I thought to myself, believing this was just a device to show that he'd accepted his condition and was a brave person. By the end of the book, however, he had convinced me that he was telling the truth.

I snatched the audiotape up immediately as soon as I saw Fox himself did the narration. Hearing Fox speak in his own words provided comfort to me while I read his touching story. I know he doesn't feel sorry for himself because I could hear it in his voice; I know he really loves his wife and family for the same reasons. I know he still retains his signature sense of humor because he chuckles throughout the narration.

One thing I loved about this book was his insights into the entertainment business. It's like I sent a friend on an undercover mission to come back and report to me. In one funny anecdote he relates how, during the height of his popularity from Family Ties and Back to the Future, after a casual reference to his beer of choice on J. Leno he woke up a few days later to see a Moosehead truck backed up to his driveway. "Just let us know when you want more," the company told him.

He seems amazingly grounded, even saying that once he found out that others were also in the closet about their early onset PD he realized just how plush his own closet had been. He is upfront about taking advantage of his celebrity status to promote PD research, and you learn about his very active and successful Foundation. He is no mere poster boy, but rather, is using the same energy with which he approached his acting career to finding a cure.

This book is a journey. Strap yourself in and enjoy it. Michael J. Fox has given us a gift in this book, and I won't soon forget his wonderful message of hope.

Summary: More than just a "Lucky Man."
Review: Words cannot express how this book moved me. It is not just a journey through Michael J. Fox's successes and failures, but what he learned from them. He expresses himself so articulately. He layed himself so openly and honestly. Not often do we get to peek inside the mind of a man so gifted, famous, and wise. His conviction to better himself and his life inspired me. It is so refreshing to read about a man so grateful for what he has in his family. Many times I found myself smiling, laughing, or crying at his retelling of events.
Michael J. Fox is someone worth getting to know. Yes, he is famous, and has a wonderful life, but what makes him one of the luckiest men alive is he knows who he is. His diagnosis marked not the ending, but the beginning of the best years of his life.
