Rating: Summary: Boring, Confusing, Vapid and Disappointing... Review: I purchased this book because I was going to be spending Christmas a long way from my home, my country and my family and hoped that reading it would help me get into the Christmas spirit. I have read many of the author's books before and enjoyed them therefore I expected to be pleased by The Present. If, like me, you have not read the Mallory series of books The Present is EXTREMELY confusing. I spent most of my time trying to figure out who was married to whom. All of the "present day" Mallory characters seemed to blend together into one faceless mass of people. The central Cinderella story of the long-lost ancestors was cute but lightweight. I was quite disappointed in this book and feel that Ms. Lindsay, who has always written intelligent historical romance novels, owed her readers more. Don't bother.
Rating: Summary: THE MALLORY SAGA Review: I enjoyed "The Present", it is about one of my favorite families. Tony and James keep their rivalry going. It could have been a little more descriptive and a little longer. More needed to be said. Maybe in an upcoming book Ms Lindsey could be more explicit about the family history. I believe that I have read all of her books and have enjoyed them all.
Rating: Summary: Slow, slow, slow Review: In the end, the book proved enjoyable. But it was slow to start and bit boring. It assumed that you were addicted to the Mallory family, that you had read all the previous books about them, and that just the subject of the Mallory family was enough to compel you to read the entire book. The Present is a simple, brainless read, enjoyable, but not exciting or moving.
Rating: Summary: The Present Review: I enjoyed this extremely the only reason I did not give it 5 stars is it was just to short. I love the whole series about the Mallory's. In this book it lets you see that older brother is truly one of the Mallory's, full of passion and love. The tale about the first of the line of Mallory's was great. It explained where some of them recieved their traits from.I hope that in the near future there is more about them. It is a big family. I just hope there is more story to love. I would recommand this to everyone. It is a great book on it's own.But I think you would be crazy to not read the whole series.
Rating: Summary: The Present Review: I loved the story! I have read most of her books and am not disappointed with The Present. I enjoy reading about the Malory family - James and Georgina are my favorite characters.
Rating: Summary: incorrect information on the back cover Review: The back cover of this book states a love affair with the second Marquis. Throughout the book it was hard to understand the generations with the wrong information printed on the back cover and the gaps in the first couple of generations of the family tree. Although the book was cute and charming it was a little boring. I usually can't put down a Johanna Lindsey book. Maybe it was rushed to get out in time for Christmas.
Rating: Summary: Another Malory Treasure Review: Once again, Johanna Lindsey has managed to capture the magic of the Malory family. A group of reckless daredevils, any reader will love it when brothers James and Anthony clash. Their verbal battles are always a hit. But their battles seem to cease temporarily as the family comes together to hear the story of the Gypsy Malory grandmother. It's a heartwarming tale that proves within the Malory sector, class and rank is of no importance. Anna Malory's gift was a truly special one, especially to Jason and Molly. I highly recommend this read.
Rating: Summary: The Present is a small gift Review: I have all of Johanna Lindsey's books and, while this is a good book, it doesn't rank anywhere near the top of the list. I couldn't put it down, but it seemed to jump around without any introduction to where it was going. Also, it was rather short. I did like the parts about the rest of the family and how it let you know what had happened to them since their own books. This was a good Lindsey book but nowhere near her best.
Rating: Summary: cute story -- poor research of time period.....yipes.... Review: i usually love the books by ms. lindsey -- and really this was a cute story. but this time the historic facts were not well researched--- in europe as well as the states we are not celebrating christmas by putting up decorations and exchanging presents. presents are exchanged for the new year -- not christmas & especially not christmas eve. decorated christmas trees (a tradition brought to us by the germans)do not show up in homes until the mid 19th century at least. folks are not going up to thier attics to get decorations down for the chirstmas holiday. whew! any simple research -- even at a historic site -- would have given the author this information. those of us that work at historic sites use this point as discussion for christmas traditions compared with todays holidays. ms. lindsey was way off the mark here & it surprised me.
Rating: Summary: The Mallory's for Christmas! What a present! Review: Over the years the Mallory's have become part of my reading family. This book was wonderful and I can't wait for the next one. Though there were no startling revelations it was still a wonderful look at a family we have all come to know and love.
