Rating: Summary: Not up to the usual JL standard Review: The first Johanna Lindsey book that I did not like. I have ready other novels involving the Mallory family, and enjoyed them. This book was confusing. There wasn't much romance. It was like a whose who of the Mallory family. Most folks have family trees about the size of an oak. The Mallory family is like a REDWOOD! And JL explores every damn twig of that Redwood! If you really want a great JL read, try "You Belong to Me", "Angel," or "Love Me Forever".
Rating: Summary: Where's Johanna? Review: Where did she go? I'm sorry. I usually find a Johanna Lindsey book an excellent read. I love her Malory novels and continually re-read those I have. There are very few Johanna Lindsey stories I have not enjoyed, and The Present was one that just didn't fit the bill. It didn't read like it was written by Johanna. Did she get kidnapped by gypsies and someone else write this book in her stead?
Rating: Summary: A present for all the fans of the Malories Review: I did not intend to like this book. I thought it was too short to incorporate all the beloved characters of the Malory novels AND a new romance. I also heard that it was not as inspired as almost all of the Malory novels are. Now that I have read it, I can say with certainty that I love it and think that it follows well in the Malory tradition.Although the characters that I came to know and love are not featured as much in this novel, just their names are enough to bring back the flood of pleasure that I felt when I was reading the first five novels. James and Anthony are delightful as always. My favorite heroines, Amy and Reggie, are as plucky as ever (what happened to James' calling Reggie Regan?). Jeremy is lurking in the shadows to erupt as the greatest romantic hero ever, since James in any case. It is great to see Jason and Molly getting together, because these "elders" deserve some happiness. As for the new romance, I love it. Anna is a wonderful heroine, completely refreshing and even more brazen than Amy. Christopher is complicated, not unlike his descendents but quite unique. I wish that their romance was not as quickly told and resolved, but I was still satisfied by it. My only concern was about Molly being a part of the family. Throughout the book, she is treated like a servant, yet apparently everyone thinks that she is a part of their family. I also did not like that Derek pays so little attention to his mother. By watching Jason people can tell that he has special feelings for Molly, yet Derek does not show enough emotions. As for the younger generation, I CAN'T wait to get to their stories. I can just imagine how hilarious James and Anthony are going to be when Jack and Judy fall in love. I also wouldn't mind for ALL of the Anderson brothers to find romance. But first, there needs to be a story for Jeremy. He is too perfect to waste. I would like to respond to those who said in their reviews that they think James and George's spat was ridiculous. Obviously, we need to suspend disbelief when reading these novels, but I actually found the reason for George's anger (or more aptly, confusion) quite plausible. I won't reveal what it is since there are people reading this review who have not read the book yet, but I think that in her state of mind, George was somewhat reasonable. In any case, who cares as long as they patch things up. Also, to those of you who think that the book repeats too much of what happened in the previous installments, I think that these recaps are necessary for people who either have read the other books long ago and don't remember what exactly happened to whom or have not read all the books. In either case, these recaps do not take anything away from the book in hand. I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and the Malories.
Rating: Summary: If you like the Malory's then you will be disapointed. Review: Well I have read many of Lindsey's books, i haven't liked all of them, but they usually were entertaining. However The Present was just a shallow story when it could have been much more if the auther had done the work. Its story has unforfiled promise. When i first got the book the first thing i noted was how thin it was, when i flipped to the back to see how many pages it was i saw that the last 20 or so pages were about other books Lindsey had written, i felt cheated that this story would be even shorter then i thought. Well about the story, if your looking for a nice romantic read with a story to sigh over then this isn't the book for you. But if you are like me and had to have this book because its about the Malory's then go ahead, nothing i write will stop you, but be prepared for disapointment. The one good thing about this book is that it had a nice theme running through it with Jason and James.
Rating: Summary: A MUST read for Johanna Lindsey fans Review: Malory lovers who have been longing for another escape into the lives of the enchanting Malory clan shouldn't miss "The Present." This enthralling tale features the whole brood together under one roof. The repartee between James and Anthony is scintillating, as always -- it was one of my favorite things about this book. And the way the gypsy's story was woven into the plot was a stroke of sheer genius. I devoured this book. Couldn't put it down. P.S. "The Present" provides some insight into where some of the rowdy family members inherited their wild streaks and untamed natures!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Christmas Present Review: I received this book as a Christmas present last year, and I read it again this year before Christmas. The "present" helps several members of the Malory family. I love the bantering among the Malory men, if it can be called that. I read this book in record time, and although it is short, it is a wonderful read. I will probably read it every Christmas from now on. "The Present" included the whole Malory clan and gives you the rest of the story from Lindsey's earlier novels. If you like the Malory's, you'll love this book.
Rating: Summary: Great for anyone that loves romance novels Review: The present is about the marvelous Malory family. When they gather for Christmas they find the present. I won't say anymore than that, except that the present helps people in the household see things a lot clearer.
Rating: Summary: The Present, A Mallory Holiday Novel Review: The Mallory Clan has become one of my favorite families. The latest entry The Present is a quick look into the beginnings of the whole wonderful saga. All my favorite characters and more are in this story. It is a quick read that is entertaining and a must read for any fan of the Mallorys. Where will Ms. Lindsey take us from here? I don't know but I can't wait until the next chapter is on the shelves. The Present has me re-reading the whole series.
Rating: Summary: I love this family Review: I love this family. I felt it was a christmas present for me.I have read all the Mallory stories and this was another great one.I got to see what they were all doing.Who was doing what.I loved it, and was sorry to have it end.I can't wait for the next one and hope it's soon.I was so glad that Janson and Molly are togher, out in the open. I hope Jeremy will be next.I think it is time for him to get the girl...
Rating: Summary: Not the best Present Review: I didn't like this as much as the other Malory novels. It was pretty short and there was more family interaction than an actual romance
