Rating: Summary: Absolutely Another Wonderful book by Jan Karon !! Review: Any book by Jan Karon has to be great and this one most definitely fills the bill. The characters in her stories are very real to me--and I would love to meet each and everyone of them. A Must READ !!
Rating: Summary: The most heart-warming series I have ever read! Review: I have been an avid reader most of my life and I have never fallen in love with a series of books like I have the Mitford books. Jan Karon is blessed by God with a wonderful talent. The characters in her books just grab your heart and won't let go. Living, as I do, in the foothills of the Smokies, I "hear" the people talking much the same as I hear every day. I am just finishing the whole series for the second time. When I finish one book I just have to start on the next one. Jan, how soon can we expect number 6?????
Rating: Summary: I love to go to Mitford and follow Father Tim and Cynthia. Review: I was thrilled when Jan Karon continued another book with Father Tim and his adventures. She ended the book in such a way for the possibility of yet another book. I hope another one will come to pass soon. This type of book is so relaxing, it makes you feel good about the world and those about you. Thank you for such an enjoyable experience.
Rating: Summary: The Best of the best, to leave this world of stress! Review: The old Chineese proverb, "Anticipation is worth a thousand gifts" did not apply to this long awaited fifth book of Jan Karon's...A New Song...It was MORE than anticipated! The adventures of Father Tim and his entourage of family and friends is like sitting on the old front porch and watching a wonderful world go by!
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Review: I came across the Mitford books last year and for awhile, resisted buying one because I didn't want to be disappointed in another so-so book. However, the covers of the books "spoke" to me, and every time I passed one by, it became harder and harder to do so. Finally, I bought "At Home in Mitford". I have never looked back. I held off on reading "A New Song", expressly because I did not want it to be over too soon. Alas, it is. It is for every "gentle reader" of excellent fiction. Father Tim's biblical references made me stop and look them up and ponder God's words; a good thing, anytime. Tears came to my eyes a number of times, in this, as in all Ms. Karon's books. I do not hesitate to give this five stars.
Rating: Summary: The warmest spiritual lift in many years! Review: As I got into 'A New Song', my first, but certainly not my last Jan Karon adventure, I pulled up my 'Streets Plus' and searched for Mitford and Whitecap Island. I guess Jan's story will have to suffice!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book, great read. Review: This book is Christian in nature without hitting you over the head with it. I had trouble putting it down. All of the Mitford series books were delightful. Congrats to Jan Karon for another book well done.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book!! Review: Because I have loved all the previous books in the Mitford series, I bought this one. I knew I was going to love it, but I didn't know how much. What I liked the most was how Father Tim was able to comfort not only his wife, but the reclusive organist and the depressed wife and mother. If you want to be uplifted and inspired, read this book.
Rating: Summary: Fulfills my expectations...again! Review: This book, as well as the previous Mitford saga books, proved to be another thoroughly enjoyable, utterly heart-warming reminder of a simple, selfless lifestyle. As an office manager for my church the past 11 years, I can relate to many of the characters in the books and also appreciate the ministry with which Father Tim is involved. I took "A New Song" on my vacation and ate it up early in the week -- sad to see it end! Thanks to Jan Karon, it is a pleasure to read edifying fiction in a mixed up world.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but not the best. Review: I have been enjoying the Mitford series, and enjoyed "A New Song" as well, however there were a couple of things that I wanted to comment on. In the first four books, I found the principal characters were nicely developed over a number of books. In "A New Song" the author seems to have a desire to wrap everything up in a nice bow by the time of the book's end. Morris is an engaging character, and his "coming around" could have waited till the next book. The other comment that I have is that in the first four books there is a strong but subtle introduction of Christian values and faith. In "A New Song" there is a very overt sense of evangelization, which left me with the feeling that the book was not just a collection of good wholesome stories that were underpinned with faith, but a tool for conversion, and I'm not sure I liked that.
