Rating: Summary: Karon's books and tapes are a Balm for all. Review: I want Jan Karon to know the impact of her writing on others. Recently, some friends of mine met wearing hats (Miss Fannie's Hat ispired this) for "high tea" and Easter's Orange Marmalade Cake. The occasion was in support of our friend who had just finished chemo loosing her hair, and about to undergo more surgery. After reading the DeSalles' quote in Chapter 16 of A New Song and reading Miss Fannie's Hat, our friend commented that the during the terrible moments of chemo and pain, the listening to the unabridged tapes of Jan karon's books were the link she needed for faith and spiruality. Anything more like Bible reading, etc just didn't work. Thank you so much for your gift.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable; but expected a better ending Review: Once again, I found myself completely enthralled with the world that Jan Karon has created in her Mitford series. I "know" these characters and feel as if I've moved to another town when I finish the book and will not hear what they are all doing anymore! I did, however, feel that the ending of this book was a bit abrupt, unlike the other books in the series, and wondered if Karon was late in completing or ran out of ideas or just got bored with her creation. I look forward to more books in this series and to a renewed interest on Karon's part with how the characters bid us farewell.
Rating: Summary: Keep em coming! Review: Once again, another Karon triumph! Loved it! Let me also share with my sister Karon fans another novel you will adore--THE LAST DAY, by Glenn Kleier. There is no more moving and poignant a novel, and surprisingly, it was written by a man! A most enlightened and wise man (good looking, too, if the dust jacket does him justice!) I hope you find it as powerful and compelling as I did.
Rating: Summary: absolutely wonderful..expansive new characters to learn abou Review: Once again Jan Karon has allowed a wonderful group of people to take up space in part of my world. Maybe the characters needed more fleshing out and Dooley needed to visit Whitecap more, but I still loved the book...most of us would love Mitford and I for one would set up residence and open a floral design shop and craft store there
Rating: Summary: MAGNIFICIENT!!! I WANT MORE!!! Review: I have read the entire Mitford series and also shared the audios with my friends who enjoyed the series as much as I. We want more and more of this wonderful and touching story.
Rating: Summary: The best one so far!! Review: Couldn't wait for this, the lastest of Jan Karon's Mitford series. I reserved it at the library before the book was released and I was about 8th in line!! I had missed the wonderful characters of Mitford; and now will have to wait (and miss again) until she writes another book!! It is as if I am visiting Mitford and it is such a pleasant experience. Now I wait.........
Rating: Summary: It was one of her best...can't wait until the next adventure Review: It was wonderful to hear from all of our old friends again, I think that I lived in Mitford in another life.
Rating: Summary: A disappointed Mitford-series fan Review: I was so looking forward to catching up with Father Tim and his dear wife Cynthia; but I was sorely disappointed with this book. Maybe it was my frame of mind when I read A New Song...I don't know. I never really got to know the inhabitants of Whitecap and frequently found myself flipping back to see who was who. AND there was at least one glaring editing error (calling Eva Mona in the chapter where Junior is anxiously meeting Eva)! There were holes in the storyline...didn't anyone else want to see Dooley at Christmas and see how Whitecappers celebrated? The climax was uncharacteristically shallow and I saw it coming for miles and miles. I would have liked to witness the scene that took place between Morris and Father Tim... Overall, this was a very disappointing book. While I anxiously await the new installment (that MUST be on the way, given the mysterious ending), I do hope that the author will take a little more time developing story and character alike.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I'm living in North Carolina heaven! Between Mayberry and Mitford, this state has it all wrapped up as far as idealized small towns go. I've always enjoyed watching Sheriff Andy guide Gomer,Goober,Barney, Aint Bea, Opie et all through their various escapades, both hilarious and heartbreaking. If Andy Taylor had ever entered the ministry, I think he would have been a lot like Father Tim (and vice versa). Just one suggestion: I don't think Miss Karon's mentioned the Mitford Volunteer Fire Dept. Towns of 1,000 usually have professional law enforcement or at least the services of a county sheriff, but have to rely on volunteers for fire protection. I've been around a few volunteer fire stations and I think the close camaraderie among the locals could work in well with the overall tone of her wonderful books. The idea of a fire could also set the stage for the realism that keeps her books from being overly-sentimental. Just a thought.
Rating: Summary: As always, this Mitford book is fabulous, too! Review: I went to my favorite book resource, and bought this one, the day of publication! I was hardly able to wait, until this one was published. I hope Ms. Karon publishes the next two in this series much faster. Even though the book was in a different setting this time, the new dilemmas, and their resolutions, were still just as heartwarming and believable, as all of the other books. I really enjoyed the storm scene with Father Tim, and could feel his anxiety, and the worry that Cynthia must have felt for him. I'm ready for the next one!
