Summary: The joy of life!
Review: I think, this book must be read by all the people on earth, since the average person doesnt care to think if there was beginning of time or if there are boundries in space...When I was a child I used to look up the night sky and ask myself these questions but I didnt know then that there were books on these subjects! The joy I experienced when I was reading this book..I dont think I've got that in any other book and am sure I will not get that unique pleasure in any other book, ever!! I've read this book two times now and I plan to read it once more.

Hawking is one great genius and has a good sense of humor too. Its only after reading this book that I've felt how lucky I am to be born in this planet,in this century, as a human being and be able to read this book and realise the joy of life!

Thank you hawking!

- Kris

Summary: Excellent book on new theories in science.
Review: This book presented new theories and discoveries on cosmology, space, and time in an interesting and fairly clear way. Imaginary time is difficult to understand. How it relates to "real" time and our universe is still unclear to me. Yet the book awakens the thrill of thinking about, exploring, and discovering more about the universe we live in.

Summary: A lucid explanation of complicated scientific information...
Review: After reading this book Stephen Hawking became a hero in my eyes. As a bored fifteen year old I was rummaging through my dad's books and came across an interesting looking (non-fiction!) book among hundreds of dusty old books. Intersted, I read the introduction to get a feel for the book before I continued on my search for some interesting reading material. Within the first pages of the book I was hooked. Over the next week and a half I gave up precious hours of sleep without a moment's hesitation. Never had such complicated scientific theory come so easily (not that I have done any extensive research...I am only a lowly freshman in highschool taking biology, my only introduction to Hawking's topics come from middle school science and any mention my dad has made to such subjects!) Only allowing myself to read one chapter before I went to sleep I finished the book all too soon. I recomend this book to any and everyone. Thought the topics are daunting Hawking does an amazing job making them comprehendable for even me!

Summary: If like you like to sit around and get bored, read this!
Review: Before I read this book my views on thermo-dynamics was clouded by bordom and the fact that I have things that arn't boring to do. They are still the same now. This book was so boring and droning that I thought I had slipped into a coma.

Summary: Poptastic
Review: A 'poptastic' book. Give it less than 5 starts and your missing the point. Whats the title "A brief history of time" - the bloke saying it should look more at telescopes and such practicle things is wrong. He needs a book like "A brief history of telescopes", open your eyes, open your mind and LEARN - its what life's about.

FANTSTIC

Summary: Hawking was off a bit
Review: The book in witch Mr Hawking says it will be possible to achieve a complete and correct theory for explaining the whole universe behavior. This theory, says Hawking in "Brief ..", will be able to explain even the origin of the own theory! Phisic laws will explain where the Phisic laws come from! Haven't the Genious of Stephen Hawking never heard about the Godel's Theorem? The book motive us to the search of the impossible Completeness and Soundness of a theory.

Summary: One word: Overrated
Review: I just finished this book, and I have to say it THE most overrated book of the century. I expected the universe, and all it gave me was a quark. Frankly, I think focusing on black holes doesn't give a whole feeling of time and space. I feel Hawking should have written about more relevant material like telescopes, lasers, and X-rays.

Summary: Read it twice... or three times
Review: I read this book very rapidly the first time, and I think I understood some of the important concepts, especially those about space and time. Then I read it over, and I almost felt confident explaining some of the concepts. I think I'll read it again. Just a little advice: if you don't understand something, don't stop; chapters evolve from easy to understand concepts to very complex ideas so, wait until the next chapter to keep enjoying your reading.

Summary: Informs reader of the otherwise uncomprehendable universe.
Review: Intresting is not a strong enough word to describe Profesor Stephen Hawking's accomplishment in writing such an extraordinary and detailed summary of the universe we live in. When I first learned of his physical dilema I couldn't believe he was able to wright such a well depicted book. The book is also very amusing as Dr. Hawking uses many refrences to amusing topics. He also introduces the reader to many new ideas in the world of science in such a lamen manner making it understandable to most blue and white coler individuals.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A clear, fun to read history of space and time.
Review: This was an amazing book that so clearly explained the usually complicated sounding theries of the universe. I was not able to put this down because not only did Stephen Hawking do a wonderful job of explaining such complicated ideas, he also found a way to incorporate humor into it all! This was the perfect book for the nonscientist, but science lover, that I am!
