Summary: A grest disappointment from a favorite author.
Review: This book makes me think that one of her husband Jonathan's mutants from his disappointing "The Web" sneaked into their house and read a Tami Hoag or Stephen King novel and surreptitiously wrote this book in the dark of night. Not to mention that, to my surprise, Clinton and Lewinski spin offs appeared by page 20 not having a sexual relationship! The dialogue is amateurish and character development nonexistent. Only one with her track record would ever have had a chance to get this published. Take a pass.

Summary: The Characters are stereotyped and the plot is ridculous.
Review: I loved all past Fay Kellermans books, including the one set in Elizabethan London. I looked forward to her new book. What a disapointment. The characters are flat, there is nothing to get hold of. Her style of writing is "bitty". And worst of all the plot is worse than bad and offensive.

Summary: Faye Kellerman's best novel.
Review: Faye Kellerman has written her best novel yet. It is a mystery, set in Las Vegas, with a touch of strange. It is a novel that seems to have been influnced by Crime Story, Casino, and the X-files, with a little of Tim Powers thrown in.

The story itself is pretty straight-forward. A group of Vegas Detectives led by Romulus (Rom) Poe are investigating a gruesome homicide of a woman who looks as if half her flesh has been torn away. It gets complicated immediately when Steve Jenson, one of Poe's Detectives, admits to having slept with the victim. Steve's wife, a friend of Rom's, is mentially ill. Another complication.

The novel weaves elements of Las Vegas present and past, including The Bomb tests of the fifties and early sixties. As well as American Indian mythology and Poe's own family history.

About halfway through the novel a killer is revealed to the reader- but not to Detective Poe. The reader then gets to watch as Poe closes in.

But there's two twists. One of them is where the X-Files/Tim Powers element comes in. Kellermans' writing never falters, even with this element introduced. What is so neat about this twist is the way she doesn't try to explain it away in some rational manner, but leaves it there as if it has every right to be there. An excellent book.

Summary: Strange
Review: I had heard very good things about this author, and decided to give her book a try. I found the beginning quite good however, as we approached the end it became ridiculous. I hope this is not indicative of her other works.

Summary: Sometimes a book needs a warning label!
Review: As an avid Faye Kellerman reader, I expected this book to be up to her usual standard -- a gripping plot, believable characters, etc. In Moon Music, however, Ms. Kellerman introduces us to people who are simply charicatures -- the hooker with a heart of gold (okay, so it's actually pyrite); the flawed, obsessed cop who bends the rules; his frustrated yet benevolent superior; an aging, alcoholic Native American who neverless spouts wisdom; and, of course, the evil rich guy.... Okay, maybe we can live with that. Now for the plot.... Ooops, the plot's just as unlovable. It turns into a 50's sci fi story, preoccupied with radiation fears and mutants.... To Ms. Kellerman's credit, and mine, I did finish the book -- I kept looking for the page that would bring all the loose ends together and make me at least like this novel. Unfortunately, I ran out of pages before it happened.... Part of the responsibility for my disappointment should probably go to the publishers, who made the decision to market Moon Dance as a mystery and not mention that Ms. Kellerman was switching to sci fi/horror.

Summary: Major disappointment from Faye Kellerman
Review: This was a big disappointment. I felt like I'd picked up a book from someone trying to imitate Dean Koontz. Her books have always been mysteries with characters you cared about. This was science fiction with characters that I really couldn't like. The nuclear contamination causing animal morphing was a little too much to take. I kept thinking she'd bring the book back around to a reasonable conclusion. I kept thinking I'd learn to like the characters. Instead, I never could like the people or believe the plot. I've always passed her books on to other Faye Kellerman fans, I don't think this one will be taking that same path.

Summary: Moon Music is a waste of time and money
Review: It seems that every successful author has at least one flop. Moon Music is Kellerman's literary disappointment. The characters were unlikeable. The whodunnit aspect was obvious. The mysticism, mental illness and characters were not only forgettable, but annoying. I couldn't wait to put it down. The mystery is why I kept picking it up to finish it. I kept hoping that the book would improve, thereby justifying the expense. It didn't -- I feel like I've been ripped off. I don't understand why others "loved it." My advice: skip it and wait for Kellerman to redeem herself.

Summary: Weird, confusing, Miss the Deckers
Review: Faye Kellerman is still an excellent writer and worth reading, but this book is super weird and contains too much detail. Very confusing number of plot twists. Got dizzy trying to keep up with everybody. Come back, Deckers.

Summary: Bring back Peter & Rina.....PLEASE!!!!!
Review: I have, with great joy, read (and re-read MANY times) every one of Ms Kellerman's books. I was so very happy to see a new one coming out that I ordered it before the synopsis was available....assuming it was a Decker book. While this book is very well written and has some interesting characters (I would be interested in seeing more of Poe, but less sci-fi) I was very disappointed. Perhaps if I had not been anticipating a new Decker book, I would have had more of an open mind about this one. I really disliked the ending....it was too Xfile for me. Ms Kellerman is, however, a fantastic author....regardless of the book. I await the next Decker book.....

Summary: Far-Fetched Poorly Developed Tale
Review: This is my first Faye Kellerman reading experience and probably my last. The plot borders on the ridiculous and the characters are poorly defined and superficial. I "ho-humed" my way through it. The only positive note is Ms. Kellerman's vivid imagination.
