Summary: Terribly Disappointing, Grindingly Slow & Wholly Implausible
Review: This book was an utter disappointment. It was a flop from a completely uncompelling start to an implausible finish. The characters were not believable, well-developed or particularly likeable - I hope that I never encounter any of them again. If I do, I will be sure to close the book immediately.

Even if I were not educated in the biological and medical sciences I would find the premise of this novel completely far-fetched. Either Kellerman is a complete idiot to have presumed that such a plot would make for a good read - or else she presumes her readers to be moronically stupid and gullible. Although I had figured out the plot in its entirety by the time I was about halfway through the book, I reluctantly read on, believing that I must be mistaken because I did not believe that Kellerman could possibly come up with such a ridiculous story. I was sadly mistaken and most annoyed to find that I had wasted my time on this poor excuse for a novel.

Generally, Kellerman provides a good read. She has failed to do so with this book because she has tried to use concepts she does not understand well enough to explain, much less manipulate into a feasible story. She should leave physics, chemistry and molecular biology to the scientists and stick to the Decker/Lazarus novels with which she has had such success.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time or $$ - Lousy!
Review: I think to really enjoy a book you have to sympathize with, empathize with, or at least like the main characters. In Moon Music, the "hero" is a cop, engaged to a doctor whom he cheats on regularly with a prostitute. The doctor knows it but doesn't seem to mind. He also is in love with his partners wife, who was his first love 20 years ago!! Get over it buddy will ya!! I found nothing likable, sympathic or empathic in this guy. Not to mention the book had a dumb ending, screaming SEQUEL. I won't be wasting my time or money on it. I had high hopes for this book, as I really like werewolf tales. I also have read one other of Ms. Kellerman's Peter Decker series and liked it. Don't waste your time.

Summary: This was my first and last Faye Kellerman read.
Review: If I hadn't found since that she has a history of writing excellent books, I would have believed this was written in a high school creative writing class. I finished it since I could hardly believe that a book that had started out promising could degenerate so badly. The only person who should be more ashamed of this mess than the author is the editor.

Summary: The book was complex yet spellbinding.
Review: I picked this book up at the supermarket check-out. I like mysteries and knew the Faye Kellerman name. I absolutely loved it! The ending left me a little "twitchy" because I like things all neatly finished--the bad guys being punished and all that--but I can live with it in the hopes that there is a sequel. I immediately went to my Amazon.com web site to order more Kellerman books, and, out of curiosity, read the reviews for this book. I was really shocked! I have been an avid reader for over forty years and think I know junk when I read it. This book was extremely inventive and told an amazing story. This is not history here folks, just a great yarn. The supernatural is an excellent segue for mystery writing, and if you read any Southwestern writers (such as Tony Hillerman), the supernatural plays a large part in some of the plots. I'm going to order some more Kellerman books and hope that they are not a letdown after Moon Music. I sincerely hope that Ms. Kellerman brings these characters back--I will be first in line to buy a sequel.

Summary: An offbeat thriller by an author I normally don't like...
Review: I usually find Faye Kellerman's books dry as the desert she describes so aptly in Moon Music, but this book riveted me from the beginning. I checked out the audio book from the library because it was the only thing that looked remotely exciting; I ended up having to go buy the book because I couldn't wait to see how the story unfolded. I loved the characters and complexity of each, and their relationships with each other. I enjoy supernatural stories so I had no problems with that element. However, I did not know it was a werewolf book going into it and I think if it were clearly marked as such, would attract a different readership than Kellerman's usual books. All in all I'm glad I stumbled across it.

Summary: One of the worst books I've ever read!
Review: This is the first book I've read by Kellerman and the last! It's whole plot is way overdone and unbelievable. The descriptions of how the detectives are running their investigation don't ring true. The characters and the relationships between them are very poorly defined. I usually pass books on to my friends when I'm finished reading them. This one went right in the trash!

Summary: Please, beat, quit.
Review: I can't believe Kellerman really wrote this book, and I can't believe an editor read it. So many errors and bad writing traps. Mormons with crosses? Three "beats" or "pauses" a page. Help me never to read another book like this!!! I want the old Kellerman back. I'll be more careful buying another one of her books. I think I will read comments here first. It would have saved me money.

Summary: Moon Music a Disappointment
Review: Stephen King fans will love this book; Faye Kellerman fans will be vastly disappointed. As for the threat that the supernatural villain will return in a future episode, please spare us.

Summary: Keep the new characters, but scrap the mysticism
Review: Having read all the previous reviews of Moon Music, I must admit to agreeing with most of them. As a fan of the Decker/Lazarus mysteries, I looked forward to Faye going in another direction and introducing a new setting with new characters. I would definitely like to see the new cast come back in a story that is in the here and now, not in the world of mysticism.

Good news to all Faye's dedicated fans - her newest book Jupiter's Bones is due out in Aug 1999.

For anyone who said they would not read anything else by Faye, think again. Her Decker/Lazarus series is one of my favorites.

Summary: Disappointing with a weird supernatural twist!
Review: If you are a fan of Faye Kellerman's, this is not her finest moment. Her novels, usually believable and viable, are typically a great pleasure to read. This one is just too bizarre-mixed with alleged mental illness topped with supernatural overtones-disappointing!
