Rating: Summary: Warms the Sole Review: 'The Christmas Shoes' is a touching story about an attorney who is too busy to stop and enjoy the simple things in life, including his own family. It isn't until his wife is about to leave him that his mother helps him to see what he's been doing wrong and how to fix it. He still doesn't get it until he is doing his rush-rush last minute Christmas shopping. The experience he has in the store changes his life. And, after reading the book, could change yours. The book is very well written. Some parts are very sad, and if you have recently lost a loved one through illness, you may want to postpone reading this for a while. It's a short novelette; just right for cuddling up with during those spare moments you can grab during the busy holiday season.

Rating: Summary: The Christmas Shoes Review: A real tear-jerker--I bawled my eyes out! I kept thinking that if I were to die tomorrow, what would those around me have to say about my life; esp. my husband and 4 children? Am I just their "mother" who meets their needs, or am I their mom who loves them more than anything; who laughs, plays, and spends time with them? ...
Rating: Summary: Life Changing Review: A wonderful story, that I had a hard time reading through my tears. Make sure you have Kleenex on hand, because this story will have you crying and laughing. It shows the impact of the small things we do on those around us. It is a rare book that can inspire you and heal you at the same time.
Rating: Summary: A good book to recommend Review: All of the previous reviews have this book well covered. The thing I would like to add is that my Mother died when I was ll years old. I think she knew she was dying, even though she was only sick in bed one day. I just wish she had talked with me abouth death like Maggie did with Nathan. I especially liked when she told him God was not going to take her, but recieve her.
Rating: Summary: A surprisingly Good Book Review: An enjoyable juxtaposition of a rich man who truly has it all, but who is way to selfish to recognize his riches and risks losing it all; and a poor man rich in ways not always visible. A little sappy and light, you will need to get your hankies ready for a peek into what makes Christmas for these families. - Mamalinda

Rating: Summary: A Christmas Carol Redux Review: As every reasonably literate person knows, Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol" is a wonderful work. The story of Scrooge's change from greedy evil man to open-hearted fellow is delightfully written and remains open to audiences today a century and a half later. "The Christmas Shoes" is something of an updating of Dicken's work, close captioned for the hard of thinking, as it were. The author leaves no cliche unturned in her efforts to yank tears from her audience. The characters are flat one-dimensional parodies of real people, the dialogue was apprently written by someone completely unfamiliar with the way in which humans converse, and the settings and continuity could only be believable to someone with NO grounding in actual literature. Is the message a good one? Absolutely. On the other hand, a good message presented this ineptly may be worse than no message at all. All in all, a complete waste of paper. If you enjoyed "The Christmas Shoes" then you need to develope your literary tastes - there's more to reading than the sacharine platitudes which this book contains.
Rating: Summary: A New Christmas Classic Review: Great story of redemption. Can't wait to buy movie on video.
Rating: Summary: A surprisingly Good Book Review: I expected a smarmy Christmas story and was delightfully surprised at how this book touched me. Once I started it, I barely could put it down. The author entwines the lives of several of the characters - at times the change of person and pronouns was confusing - but the result was a sad yet touching tale of a different look at Christmas.
