Summary: A Favorite Childhood Book
Review: I remember this book as being one of the first chapter books that I ever read as a child. Once I started reading it I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. I read the book many times as a young girl, and just reciently read it again as an adult. I still enjoyed the story just as much as I did as a young child.
As a child I would wonder what it would be like to live in a boxcar in the woods, and what it would be like not to have my parents at such a young age.
There are many adventures and situations that these four children are faced with in the story. I would always wonder, "What would I do in that situation?" I could picture these children, thier situations and adventures so clearly as I read. These children had so many great ideas on how to live, survive, and care for one another.
Together they made the boxcar thier home, and because they made it themselves, they loveded it. Even after thier grandfather finds them, and they find out that he is rich and wonderful, the children miss the comforts of thier boxcar.
I feel that this book would be wonderful for boys and girls of all ages. It is a heart warming story that will make a person laugh and cry. Everytime I finish reading this book, I feel greatful for all that things that I have.

Summary: Five plucky orphans take on the world
Review: This is the story of four orphaned siblings who are on their own, wandering from town to town. They find an abandoned boxcar in the woods, and set up housekeeping in it. They live quite happily on berries, water, and a little meat bought with the oldest boy's gardening pay. Life is good until one of the girls gets very sick and they must tell an adult about how they live.

If your child would like a very easy-to-read chapter book that moves verrrrry slowly to a happy ending, this is it. However, modern kids may not be able to relate to the Boxcar Childrens' delight in scavenging at a dump or sharing a loaf of dry bread. It was written in 1942 and so has no modern references. The children never mention their parents, never complain about being on their own or penniless. They are always blissfully happy with whatever life brings them. The boxcar children aren't cool, but they are relentlessly cheerful!! I found this book tedious and way too long to be interesting.

Summary: We thought this was a great book!
Review: There are four orphans named Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny. These orphans don't want to live with their grandfather because they think he's mean. Instead they find a boxcar to live in. Henry is 14 and since he's the oldest he goes to work for Dr. Moore to earn money. Jessie is 12 and gathers food for everyone and takes care of the boxcar. Violet is 10 and takes care of Benny who is the youngest. Benny is 5 and he has a little pink cup and loves it even though it has a crack. Can the children survive on their own? Read it to find out!
Overall we liked this book. Ben though the story was funny because the characters do silly things like when Benny cut Watch the dog's hair into a J. Ethan felt sick when he read about the children eating cherry dumplings; Andre and Camille felt sick, too. Camille liked the book because it has a very, very, very happy ending. Andre thought it was a pretty funny book and Benny was especially silly. Our opinion is this is a great book and you should read it.

Summary: in the boxcar
Review: Boxcar Children #1

Would you ever like to live in a boxcar?

The main characters are a 7 year old boy Benny, an 11 year old girl Violet, a 15 year old boy Henry and a 13 year old girl Jessie. The story begins when they are hungry and go into a bakery and stay for the night. But the baker is going to take Benny away. Eventually there grandfather finds them and they go to live with him.

I like the book because it is an adventure.
I recommend this book for 8-15 year olds because this ages like adventure. ...

Summary: Fond Memories
Review: I loved reading as a child, and still do as an adult. I read constantly but seem to only remember two or three specific titles that stand out. The Box Car Children series is number one on that list. The book got me dreaming of what it would be like to set up my own home (although it's alot tougher than I thought!)and kept me rapt until the very end.
This year I am excited to be able to share this wonderful reading experience with my niece and will introduce my 1st grader in a few years.

Do you want a book that will be hard for your youngster to put down and will leave lasting memories? This is it!

Summary: Excellent for young children
Review: This is a compelling story for young kids. My wife
described this book to my five year old (Its a story
about 4 children with no mommy or daddy who live in
a boxcar) and my daughter then grabbed it from her. We did not
hear from our daughter for 4 hours as she read
it end to end. This was her first chapter book!!!
She then re-read the book about 6 times and then
has systematically read every boxcar book we can get
our hands on. She now has the reading capability of
a nine year old because of these books... amazing.
