Rating: Summary: This book is awful good & exciting! Review: Though I read a lot I've never been as exited about a book as this one. My girlfriend pickup up the Dutch translation of this book at the library and I started reading it on a lazy sunday, and spent the rest of the day spellbound and lost :-) I inmediately bought the English version (I prefer reading books in their original tongue). And couldn't wait for the sequals: 'Stone of Tears' and 'Blood of the Fold' to be published. I'm now waiting anxiously for the 4th sequal: 'Temple of the Winds' to be published... I can only join in with Piers Anthony: 'A phenomenal fantasy, endlessly inventive, that surely marks the commencement of one of the major careers in the genre'
Rating: Summary: Everything any fantasy/sci fi reader could want. Review: If you like wizards, mysterious beings, evil that comes from where the heart is or a macabre sense of humor then you have got to read "Wizards First Rule". The action will grab you from the very first page and hurdle you through realms you could only imagine, then destines you to walk, run, crawl, drive, or any other means of getting to the next soul gripping book by this very clever person. A can't put down trilogy
Rating: Summary: Excellent, captivating novel that was difficult to put down Review: Why do I read books? To escape from the boring little boxes I get crammed into by everyday life. It takes a very well-written story to pull me into another world. While I noticed immediately that Terry Goodkind's novel had many similarities to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series (also favorites of mine - please go on with the story!), perhaps that's why I enjoyed reading about Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd so much. And, after all, isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? I read a wide variety of books, choosing what genre best suits my mood at the time. When I decided to read Wizard's First Rule, I needed a fast-paced, intriguing fantasy novel that would help me unwind during my lunch hour and after work. I'll admit that the first few pages didn't reach right in and grab me, but it wasn't long before I was lost in Richard's world. When Denna captured him, I wanted nothing more than to see Richard blast that little ***** to nothingness. But by the end of his captivity, I was in tears at what Denna had endured to make her into the Mord-Sith. I don't recall anything in Robert Jordan's books that made my heart wrench as it did when Richard forgave Denna and released her, finally, from her pain. I have just finished reading the Stone of Tears (Mmmmarrlla luuug Grrratch!), which was even better than the first book, and I hope the story never ends.....
Rating: Summary: Goodkind is God Review: This Book is the BEST book I have ever read in my life. I couldnt put it down when I started. I loved the charachters. I loved the villians. I loved the creatures (Gars Kick A$$!!!) I loved the plot. I loved this BOOK!!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful Novel.... Review: I have been reading many of the reviews given toward this novel... To those who have "trashed" this book I must condemn you on what you write... On those of you that praise this book I must be in firm agreement with you... Goodkind's Wizard's First Rule is one of the best novels I have ever encountered in a long time... It has an amazing story line and wonderful charchters that grasp your heart and never seem to let go... For those of you who seem to say that this is an awful book and that you should read Jordan, Brooks, or some other author I have to ask one question... "What are you talking about?" Most of the books and authors that you list are in the same league as Goodkind. Believe me I know for I have read these authors as well... And if you must go on how Wizard's First Rule was a clone, was not all the other books you listed as clones as well? Most modern novels derive from themes given during the middle ages or in old myths and legends, so how can you account that Goodkind's book is a clone or "copycat"? If you say that, then you must say all stories are clones as most of them have come from stories that were probably made centuries ago, such as Le' morte De Arthur, Beuwolfe, etc... And it seems that all of you who have given low ratings to this wonderous book never seem to read it in depth with pleasure and never seem to read the entire novel and series. If you analyze the story, there are many subplots and much going on that is going on! (Believe me I have read the book countless times!) So those that say it is without context, obviously you haven't been reading the book. Now that I have gotten that off me, I must praise Terry Gookind's book. It is masterfully done and deserves to have great recognition, like Marion Zimmer Bradley said, this book will probably sweep through the nation like Tolkein's did... There aren't enough words in the world to say how good this book is, the only way to know is to experience it yourself and to find out what all the talk is... Goodkind's Wizard's First Rule is truely one of the all time greats that has ever been written..
Rating: Summary: Well, the plot is pretty good... Review: Alright, this book is thoroughly readable. I'm confounded as to why, exactly, this book has received so much acclaim, however. The plot is actually quite good, and the story telling suffices, but I could write better dialog. It's just not believable. How many times do Richard and Kahlan have to reaffirm thier undying love for one another? It's fine to have characters express love, but when it happens every conversation it becomes a little trying. In anycase the altruistic dialog kills otherwise fine book
Rating: Summary: I must come to Goodkind's defense Review: I have to say in his defense, Goodkind has written a really intriguing and can't put it down till your done type book. But I didn't like the subplot of Richard and Denna, I feel it was a little
inappropriate. If I wanted sex and/or pervaseness, I would read contemporary fiction not fantasy.
Rating: Summary: This book needed some balls Review: This had to be the wimpiest book I've everread. The writing and charaters were horribleand the story was so predictable that I kept wondering why anyone would just not skip to the last chapter and avoid all the crud in the middle. I wish I had.
Rating: Summary: An excellent, can't-put-it-down classic. Review: This book, Wizard's First Rule is a well-written masterpiece of the modern age. The character development is well done and creates the atmosphere of the book. The relationships between the characters Kahlan and Richard drive you to come back and keep reading. Each persona in the book is totally realistic and independent. The book has an air of mystery that makes you come back for more. Without the mystery of the secrets between the characters, this book would name be the great book it is. This book is one of the best books I've ever read. My collection of modern writings extends well into the hundreds and I put Terry Goodkind, and all of his writings well to the head of the list. I put this book with all of my Dennis McKiernan, Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks, and J.R.R. Tokien books. This book is a definite must-have and must-read
Rating: Summary: Horrible, bad names, no drama Review: This novel is fascinating in that it manages to do
everything WRONG! It's characters are one sided (gee, Richard was nice now he's mean but doesn't like it), the names are god-aweful (Darken Rhal!?!?), and the desription of magic, how sometimes Zed is powerful and sometimes
he's not, just doesn't work. If you want good fantasy go and read Tolkien, or Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time", or Eddings, or ANYBODY! The only good thing about this book is that unlike a movie, you don't HAVE to finish it once you start
