Summary: Promising middle ruined by beginning and ending
Review: I decided to give this book a try despite some mixed reviews. I mean, how bad could the book possibly be, with a positive review from Piers Anthony on the cover? Well, about a third of the way through, I was certain it was the worst fantasy novel I had ever read. The characters were flat, uninteresting and paper-thin, their dialouge was childish, and their world boring. It had no sense of history or realism to it at all. Besides, the last thing I want in my fantasy bad guys are child molesters. I get enough of that on the local news. Ironically, the book (and Goodkind's writing) seemed to pick up when the story shifted away from Richard and his friends and focused instead on Rachael, a young playmate to a princess. I was intrigued when Richard was captured by the Mord-Sith, although I thought the idea was borrowed from Robert Jordan, just with ten times the amount of violence. But the ending is a letdown in the sense that it is laughable in its lack of complexity and originality. It will be some time before I get around to the next book in the series, if I ever do. Personally, if I were Richard, I would have had Zedd give Rand al'Thor a call and have him send in a few thousand Aiel. That would take care of big, bad Darken Rahl

Summary: Extraordinary and epic, a truimph in the fantasy field
Review: Goodkind has an uncanny controll over our emotions in this amazing stand out book. He is able to easily make readers see "both sides of every thing," as it were, to see how human everything that he writes about is. His is a world more magical and alluring than anything tolkien could ever hope to concieved of

Summary: Wizard's 1st has a blend of humor, and philosophy
Review:

The Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind, was quite stimulating to the mind. He has refreshing ideas on the subject of philosophy and psychology with a twist of humor and fantasy.

He gave the reader something to think about. He has shown in his book, that we should think things over.

I'm glad to state, that it is good start of the saga.

Summary: What can I say...its the best.
Review: I just have a few things to say. First of all, I think the Sword of Truth series is the best fantasy series I've ever read, and it will probally be the best I will EVER read. Second, I don't see how anyone could hate the book. I mean I respect others opinions, but come on! If you hated the book that much why did you even read it? And if you didn't read the whole book and you still hate it this much, why go through the trouble to write about it? If I hated it as much as some of you do I would never take time out of my life to write about it. Heres a few words that will help those of you who hated the book. Move on. Go on to the next book. You hated it so fine. Maybe you could find something that fits you high standards. And to those of you who like the books: VERY good taste

Summary: To read it, is to see the movie.
Review: From page one I was completly entwined with the character of Richard. The more I read, the more I identified with the inner strugles he faced, with the choices he had to make, and how he dealt with the consequences of those actions. The desciptive detail of the events and personalities of the characters of not only this book but the complete series is so intense, if you have one iota of an imagination you'll swear your watching a movie instead of reading a book. The words actually paint pictures for you to see

Summary: Underwhelming
Review: Someone mentioned this work in the same breath as Robert Jordan and the Wheel of Time Series? For shame! This is a pithy novel, without a breath of originality in what is otherwise a stagnant and boring book. If one enjoys simplistic wording, and sporadically developed characters, be my guest. I found that rather than introducing personality traits and useful skills graduallly, they are sprung upon the unsuspecting reader. It is as if the author did not tkae the time to plan the book ahead of time and had to rush to include crucial detail. While it was not the worst book that I have read, it was no better than a below average and uninteresting read. Your time would be better spent elsewhere

Summary: Thrilling, Amazing, ALL around great
Review: Terry Goodkind is a master......He works the words of english and the imaginations of readers into a woven tapestry of a truly great story. I have read almost all of Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' and a lot of Raymond E. Feist's 'Riftwar' Novels. I have even read some of David Eddings. All are great and Terry Goodkind is up there with them. Although. People have been reported of saying Terry Goodkind is a stealer of stories. Well....He is in a way....If you can say that Robert Jordan stole his own stories. Thats right. Many rumors have been said that Robert Jordan AND Terry Goodkind are the same people. I don't know if this is true, but wouldn't it be interesting to find out. Get passed all those ignorant people mad about Terry Goodkind saying he stole the story. It is a great story. If you don't like this story then there is a reason for it...........You just don't like Fantasy

Summary: Terry Goodkind is the best fiction author since Tolkien!
Review: I read this book on a recomendation from a friend, and I'm glad I did. There are few authors that can write a book that I have a hard time setting down. Tolkien and Eddings are the only authors who can write as masterfully as Goodkind can. I have now read the two sequels, and I am anxiously waiting for the third one to be released. This book, and the entire Sword of Truth series, is a must read for any serious fantasy reader. I even got my brother to read this book, and he hardly ever reads anything, let alone fantasy. If he reads the entire book, then it has to be good. Goodkind is the best fiction author since Tolkien!

Summary: Lacks some originality, but overall good
Review: Terry Goodkind created a new world for fantasy lovers to enjoy in his first novel Wizard's First Rule (WFR). Many people argue that Goodkind lacks originality in his first novel. These people know what they are talking about, but they use that as their best arguement for a poor quality book. The fact is, WFR contains many original characters, places, and plot twists. It also contains many plot ideas previously used, as in the villian is the heroes father. This can only be expected; this is Goodkind's first novel. As for the gruesome and explicit scenes, they were not that bad. Goodkind keeps them in good taste. He makes things graphic, but leaves the reader to imagine all of the really gruesome things. This is a quality of a good writer. He pays attention to detail, yet he lets a person use their own imagination. Many people would not pick up this book because it contains 800+ pages. They think that the plot starts late and it just drags on and on. I found that by the end of the second ch

Summary: Goodkind's First Book is the Best
Review: Personally, I loved this first book of his. Having read all 3 of his books now in publish, I would say this is the best one. If you are looking for action, romance in the quality of a epic fantasy this is the book for you. If you are looking for a ho-hum everyday fantasy don't pick to read this book. But if you want a whitty, humorous fantasy then this is definitely the book you want
