Summary: It has its moments
Review: The first reading of this story did not impress me. However, it had its moments. I have read it again, without skimming, and I must say that Mr goodkind is a fair story teller who could use some polish on his prose style. But his imagnination alone cannot overcome the fundamental flaws in the book.

The dialogue is wooden. The plot is inexorable. The betrayal by brother Michael is telegraphed a bit heavily. The setting lacks depth.

On the bright side? Some good humor, some neat new uses of magic and a wonderful nasty beast called gar. A valiant attempt to explore anger and self righteous wrath as forces for righting the world's wrongs. And a lovely Sam Peckinpaugh inspired scene where we witness the slow motion decapitation of an adversary, courtesy of the hero's sword, complete with spraying gore and the temporal distortion so common to truly traumatic events.

But alas, the mutilation of a child by the villain, the 50 or so page digression into the world of S & M, and the gruesome punishment meted out to an assassin all crossed the line of good taste. I threw the book away, as I simply do not wish for my children to read it.

Mr Goodkind demonstrates considerable talent as a writer, however his editor ought to be dumped into a large vat of warm oatmeal. This book's prose stumbles frequently, and its length is obsessive when one considers the lack of useful description presented.

I trust Mr Goodkind will improve upon his talents as he writes more books. With practice, he may turn out a few masterpieces. I, however, will wait until then to read any more of his works.

Summary: Terry Goodkind is the BEST
Review: When I started reading this book, I thought I would give it up because it was so long, and I was sure that I would be bored. But, I wasn't. I loved this book. It is my fave in the whole world. It was recomeneded to me by two of my friends. I'm only 15, and I know it doesn't seem like I should be reading this because everyone thinks that teens don't like to read. Well, they are all wrong. I'd have to say that if I were stranded on a desert island with only one possesion, it would be this book. It is the best. My hat's off to you Terry Goodkind.

Summary: Simply THE BEST.
Review: First off, this is the best series I have read thus far, and "the few" who did not rate this well lack the imagination to be reading in the first place (interesting how most of them are from Texas...). Terry Goodkind takes the fundamentals of fantasy to the next level and really delivers. If you have not read this book yet, please do, you will be pleased.

Summary: If you like Fantasy, Read this!
Review: This is the first book of The Sword of Truth, on of my favorite fantasy series. Now, I've read a lot of fantasy, and this series has everything, adventure, love, lots of magic, and borrowed elements from every other fantasy series... but that can't really be helped... this is fantasy after all :) At least he borrows the good stuff. Definitely an exciting read. Great likeable characters too. In my opinion, Goodkind is better than Anthony, Eddings, Brooks, and most other fantasy mainstays

Summary: A novel that runs with the finest...
Review: I don't often read fantasy novels -- as a matter of fact, this is only my second one. I usually stick to works of classic fiction and the biological sciences, but every now and again I like to try something different. When I saw this novel at my University's bookstore, I decided to give it a try. I was NOT disappointed.

The story left me concerned and often very worried about the fates of the characters. I was always wondering what Goodkind had in store. I will read the next 4 novels of this series with great interest; I urge you all to do the same thing.

Summary: Awesome! Non-stop action, great plot twists!
Review: This is by far one of the best fantasy books I have ever read. Goodkind keeps you breathless with anticipation. I simply could not put it down! He rates up there with Piers Anthony, one of the great masters! The entire series is great but this one is best of them all.
