Summary: Decent suspenser
Review: This is a fast and fun read; it isn't great literature, but then again, it's not trying to be.

The main flaw is - without giving away too much - there is no complete resolution. It obviously is designed to make you read the next in the series. Unless it is clearly indicated (for example, "Volume 1 in the XYZ Trilogy,") I find such an ending to be manipulative and a cheat. It seems like the ploy of an author who feels his next book would never be bought on its own merits so he needs to resort to trickery and is willing to force his loyal reader to commit for months or years to a book he really only wanted to give a few days to.

Flynn's good enough that he doesn't need to do such things. To me, it is an indication of fellow suspense writer's James Patterson's diminishing abilities that he can't stop doing similar tricks. But that's a different rant....

Summary: Waited for Nothing
Review: I was eagerly awaitng Vince's third novel after I enjoyed the first two so much. This book was very disappointing. The beginning was great--typical of his first two books, but there was no end. We were completely left hanging on almost every major point of the book. I will definitely wait for the library book before reading book #4. Is this one of those instances where a really good beginning author gets in too deeply and starts just churning out words to make the deadlines?

Summary: Great Read
Review: This is the first book by Vince Flynn I have read and I couldn't put it down! I am now planing to buy his other books. I hope there as good.

Summary: Vince Flynn Stories Get Better!
Review: Third Option turned out to be an outstanding read. Mitch Rapp
has turned out to be the perfect hero in the Flynn novels.Irene Kennedy,President Hayes, and Rapp's lady love add to the excellent story line. Rapp, while conducting an assasination for
the C.I.A. in Germany is double crossed and nearly killed. What develops from this incident is a giant conspiracy. A C.I.A.
contract man is involved as well as a U.S. Senator. Several
attempts are made on Rapp's life by these forces. Rapp managesto survive. This story leaves room for a sequel for this action
packed story line. Read this book. You will be very pleased. Vince Flynn gives you a good break from Tom Clancy and other
imitators.

Summary: A good, fast read. Lots of fun.
Review: Mr Flynn's third outing was a good one. I enjoyed this book a great deal, particularly because he was a bit less preachy in this one than he was in his first.

The main character, Mitch Rapp, is rather enigmatic, but then looking at what he does for a living, that would be appropriate. The characters were good, the scenery was described well, and this time Mr Flynn didn't make everyone that was a non-conservative, a cross between the devil and a child molester.

Mr Flynn does a good job with the local geography as well. Many authors tend to make things up as they go along when describing Washington, DC (Clancy comes to mind here), but Flynn gets it all down just right. From George Washington University Hospital (where my daughter was born) and campus, to the State Department and Naval Bureau of Medicine on 23rd street that I drive past every morning and afternoon

This isn't high art, and it isn't literature, but if you are looking for a fast paced novel about political intrigue, assassins, and tradecraft this is your book.

As a personal aside, I think Mitch Rapp should ditch that Beretta he uses and get something a bit more practical for his line of work.

Summary: What have you done for me lately?
Review: I loved Vince Flynn's first 2 books. Unfortunately, his 3rd book, "The Third Option," is not of the same caliber. It starts out with an exciting premise as Mitch Rapp is undertaking another dangerous mission, but rapidly devolves into just another run-of-the-mill "evil politician" book. And, unfortunately, the book never resolves most of its storylines, leaving us hanging (presumably to buy the next book) at the end. Anna Rielly, Mitch's love interest from the previous book, is present in this book, but is unfortunately presented as a cardboard character. There is almost no face-to-face interaction between Mitch and Anna in this book, which I found rather odd. Too much time spent on uninteresting political power struggles, and too little time spent with Mitch Rapp doing what he does best.

After the promise of Flynn's first 2 books, I was rather disappointed with this one.

Summary: Third Option Falls Short...
Review: After reading "Term Limits" and "Transfer of Power," I had high expectations for "The Third Option." Unfortunately, I was disappointed. This book does not share the intensity of his first two, and it doesn't seem as though he really did his research for this one. The book is definitely readable, but the ending is abrupt and disappointing. If you haven't read Flynn's first two books, though, pick 'em up. They're both page-turners.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not Flynn's best work
Review: After reading his first two books, "The Third Option" is a major disappointment. It seems that Flynn was intent in working in every character that appeared in his first two books (at least those left alive). The plot suffers from all the re-hashing of old material. I don't mind a final tease to close a book, but this one really left the reader dangling.

Summary: The END?
Review: Yet another fast paced book and one that will keep most people turning pages one after the other. The ending is somewhat short but hopefully a continuation in this is coming shortly.

Summary: Great Characters Revisited
Review: Can there be anything more exciting than following the adventures of Mitch Rapp as he moves in and out of Washington's political morass and intrigue. Renewing acquaintances with Thomas Stansfield and Dr. Irene Kennedy, as well as President Hayes add to the pleasure of the novel. Vince Flynn has created exceptional characters and placed them in exciting venue after venue. It is difficult to put the book down and upon conclusion the reader will be anxious for the publication of the sequel. It is just a great book.
