Summary: Tess knocks another one out of the park!
Review: Even if you are not up to speed on medical jargon (althought there's a limited amount of it in this book) you will throrougly enjoy the way Tess builds the plots and subplots of this excellently created medical thriller. I fully expect to see THE SURGEON made into a motion picture - - if somebody in Hollywood has the good sense to buy the rights. Keep on crankin' 'em out, Tess. You've got an ever increasing following of readers out here. We all love you, especially we who hail from the great State of Maine. Steven L. Waterman (author of JUST A SAILOR)

Summary: A MUST read!
Review: He stalks his prey in the darkness. He enters their houses and walks into their bedrooms. The precision of his brutal killings suggests he is a man of medicine. The police are baffled and their only clues are the facts that he rapes his victims, removes their uterus, and THEN kills them. Luckily for the police one of the potential victims fights back and kills her attacker.

Dr. Catherine Cordell is trying to forget the attack that almost killed her two years ago. And although she has moved from Savannah to Boston the nightmares that plague her are about to become a reality.

Within a few weeks of each other a series of killings have locked the people of Boston in a state of fear. The police, having nothing to go on, begin to look into the recent murders only to discover they are very similar to the murders that happened in Savannah. Detectives Thomas Moore and Jane Rizzoli examine the close similarities between the years apart crimes and are shocked to realize they can't be copy cat crimes, for the details of the original killings were kept out of the papers, but how can this be the work of the original killer, he was killed by Catherine Cordell?

Moore and Rizzoli do the only thing they can, bring Cordell into the middle of their investigation because any information she supplies them can bring them closer to catching the killer. Unknown to anyone is the fact that the killer is staying one step ahead of them, and Catherine Cordell has now been targeted as the next victim on the killer's list, a deranged madman that knows the fears of the women he kills.

'The Surgeon' sucked me in from the first page, and kept me riveted from one shock to the next. With a plot as sharp as a scalpel, and a villain as nasty as Hannibal Lector, 'The Surgeon' succeeds at being a terrifying read all the way up to it's explosive climax.

Tess Gerritsen proves to be nothing less than SUPERB at creating tension filled medical thrillers. With four previous bestsellers, Ms. Gerritsen has created her most exciting novel to date, and that is no small accomplishment, considering her earlier novels were excellent.

Dark, twisted, and disturbing 'The Surgeon' is a MUST read!

Summary: EXCELLENT!!!!

Summary: A Very Worthwhile Read-Exciting Book!
Review: This was the first I have read of Gerritsen's books, and it was a good one!

Catherine Cordell is a surgeon who is highly skilled in repairing broken people's bodies.

There have been some horrendous murders taking place in the city of Boston. This killer would tear women apart by carving out their female organs, stabbing them with a scalpel, and leaving some dead, and others barely alive at the scene.

With each repeated act of great violence, the monster comes closer and closer to capturing Cordell, and hurting her. The thing one, he did hurt Catherine once, and she managed to escape. But this time, she may not be so lucky. She's in this monster's obsessions all the time.

Summary: Damn good. Visceral, to say the least.
Review: Tess knows how to put it down. I blew through this book and loved it the whole time. Pretty bizarre stuff. I'll be wanting to read more of her. Stay vigilant, for the Surgeon might be waiting for you... Great book.

Summary: Has a Killer Come Back from the Dead?
Review: Elena Ortiz is found dead in her suburban Boston home. The killer performed an expert hysterectomy on her, apparently while she was still alive, then took her life by cutting her throat. A year earlier another woman had been killed in a similar fashion. And two years earlier Catherine Cordell was the victim of a similar attack in Savannah, however she fought back and luckily killed her attacker before he could complete his grisly crime. Now it seems to be happening again, and this

Catherine Cordell is a trauma surgeon at the Pilgrim Medical Centre. Two years ago she was a victim of a very similar attack in Savannah. She's never been able to put it out of her mind and now someone is killing in a similar way and he seems to know things that only the police are privy to. And it gets worse for Catherine, because as the killer, now dubbed the Surgeon, heats up his killing, he starts tormenting Catherine. The killer has to be someone who knows her, but who?

Police detectives Jane Rizzoli and Thomas Moore do their best to protect Catherine even as the killer seems to get closer and closer to her with his insidious taunts. Can they solve the mystery of who the killer is before he gets to Catherine, and what, if any is his connection to the man Catherine had killed two years earlier?

These questions and more will have you ripping through the pages as Moore and Rizzoli race to solve this mystery. Lots of murder in this book, lots of plot twists too. Like our intrepid detectives, you will be guessing right up to the very end. Tess Gerritsen never, ever disappoints.

Summary: A Stomach Turner
Review: THE SURGEON is definitely a gripping little tale. The title character is a killer who uses torture and mutilation of a most specific nature on his victims. While Detectives Moore and Rizzoli attempt to identify a pattern to the killer's madness, the killer relentlessly closes in on Dr. Catherine Cordell, the only survivor of a separate killer who employed an identical modus operandi. Coincidence, or is there a more concrete connection between the two?

This novel is solidly written. Gerritsen keeps the tension at a high level, the pace is relentless, and the characters are engaging. So why four stars instead of five? To my mind, while there are surprises in the details, the story is rather predictable overall, from the bloody opening to the cliff-hanger ending. Just-in-the-nick-of-time endings have become so overworked in books and movies that they've lost much of their impact. THE SURGEON is also quite gruesome. I like a good mystery, but THE SURGEON had my stomach turning at times.

Gerritsen has written a pretty good thriller, here. If the predictable ending and the sadism don't put you off at all, this is a very good read.

Summary: An expert author both in both medicine and storytelling!
Review: This is my first Tess Gerritsen book and I extremely enjoyed reading it. Fast, interesting, excellent. Villain is the most horrible ever.
In Boston, a talented killer finds his victims who are previous rape victims. His target is removing the uterus and then cut their throats.
The trauma surgeon of Pilgrim Hospital, Dr Catherine Cordell -now lives in Boston- killed a trainee doctor Andrew Capra who had tried to rape and kill her with this identical style in Savannah.
Ms Gerritsen's heroin is actually Jane Rizzoli "the only female detective of the department who has emotional turmoil and self confidence problem". Rizzoli is great.
Another homicide detective Thomas Moore falls for Catherine, so there is also a little bit romance.
Rizzoli and Moore start their investigation on these copycat murders.
Page by page I was so eager to learn upcoming events. I must say that I could not put it down. Ms Gerritsen is a brilliant author and I can not understand how I missed her works. She is a doctor actually, that's why she is quite capable of decribing the medical terminology in a smooth way. Her style is easy to follow. Fast pace, great characters, magnificent storyline... What I reader wants more? Highly recommended...

Summary: A good novel...a terrifying page turner!
Review: I like this novel. It has some very deep characters - they are very well thought out and have many dimensions!

I must say, I like this book better than the series with Dr. Maura Isles, as in "Body Double". I think Dr. Catherine Cordell is a much stronger and tougher opponent - although Dr. Isles can hold her own weight. However, I just felt I could relate a little better to Dr. Cordell.

Check it out - it is pretty good!

Oh, check out "The Sinner". It is not nearly as good, but it is still exceptionally entertaining. Freaky subject matter!

Summary: Not for the sqeamish
Review: Awesome book. Go Tess go. This was my first book of Tess's and I am moving on to read her others. This is a great medical thriller that keeps you guessing. A highly recommended read.
