Summary: the only diet plan I've ever tried that actually works
Review: Isn't it amazing that despite the cleverly written sarcastic reviews and the warnings by registered dieticians and doctors, the readers constantly rate this diet five stars! My husband's cholesterol in down to 139 and he lost 14 pounds. This is significant because he has had by-pass surgery and is on medication for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. His cholesterol level was 298 at the time of his by-pass. He is reducing his cholesterol med with a goal to be medication free. Because we take responsibility for our health we choose to be physically active and eat sensibly. this combined with smoking cessation and eliminating alcohol has had these healthy results. Health is not about fad diets, but lifestyle choices. Barry Sears just gave us additional choices backed by good science. yes, ordinary people are capable of understanding and applying Dr. Sear's theories. Buy the book!

Summary: It works for me!
Review: My doctor has been telling me to lose weight for the past two years. Each time I started to diet, I was so hungry that I was soon back to my old eating habits. Last year I started walking and lost six pounds in three months. But my schedule filled again with other activities and I stopped walking and gained those six pounds right back, plus six more. I started the Zone Diet on November 15, 1998. By my next visit to the doctor on December 10, I had lost 18 pounds. No exercise, no hunger, no problems! This diet is the greatest and I believe I'm on it for life. By the way, my doctor just bought the book and is considering getting into the zone, too. My thanks to Barry Sears for writing such a convincing book with a formula that really works!

Summary: Diabeties Type II
Review: I was recently diagnoised with Type II Diabeties. I was also lightly overwieght by about 20Lb, which also contributited to my problem of dealing with sugars and insulin. Just four months after reading, and following the suggestions in this book, my blood tests showed near perfect results. Lowered weight, fats, chloresterol, and sugar. My doctor said, "I don't know how you did it, but from these results, you have cured it. Keep it up." Great book with lots of good recipies and easy to follow meal plans.

Summary: Where was this book ten years ago?
Review: After reading Dr. Sears' book, it didn't take long for me to become extremely motivated in not only losing weight, but in achieving a permanent healthy lifestyle. At times the book intoduced topics which were difficult to comprehend, but in the end I felt I understood exactly what the author was trying to get across. My wife, who happens to be a 4th year medical student, was skeptical at first. However, after seeing me lose an average of 3 lbs a week for the first four weeks I was in the zone, she read the book and now she's hooked. We both now have a tremendous amount of energy we didn't have before and we have just recently put our three children in The Zone so they can up with us. The book establishes The Zone diet as a plan for healthy living, not just for losing weight. Thank you Dr. Sears!

Summary: I love the fat foods I can have: avocados, olives, almonds!
Review: I don't feel deprived. A client told me she lost 60 pounds on it. That she'd tried it all. I was desperate enough with middle age spread to give it a go. Lost 6 pounds in about 15 days. Easiest weight loss I've ever had. Most positive energy, least feeling of deprivation. I want to shout it from the rooftops: Try This One! I tend towards hypoglycemia and have the Hidden Addiction (see review on that book), have ADD and get light-headed when hungry. This book gives me the bulk I need, the choices I like and the feeling of satisfaction that I can stay with over time. A good solution to a complex problem. Thanks Barry! Linda Schiller-Hanna

Summary: Very Interesting points - complicated discussions.
Review: Although Dr. Sears makes some strong points - his micro-biological approach is cumbersome to follow. His idea of eating more protein & fat to balance with the 40% calories from carbohydrate sounds similar to every old adage heard growing up. That is to eat in moderation! Simple one line no complex discussions of hormones, amino acids, insulin, eicohsids.....

If you want to lose weight eat a balanced (SMALL) meal three times per day . Simple! and effective.

Summary: In the Zone is the Place to Be
Review: A friend recommended this book to me because of the great results he'd had following it. I bicycle quite a bit, and had been on a very high complex carb, very low fat, protein--what's that? diet for several years. My "healthy" diet gave me low cholesterol (154), but I had extremely high triglycerides (382), low HDL (30), low LDL (48). In short, this shows impending heart disease. Doctor's advice? Exercise. Well, I was already doing that. I cut out even more fat. I was constantly hungry, had headaches, and rarely felt terribly well.

After following the Zone diet for just two days, I felt great and was never hungry, in fact had trouble eating all the food sometimes. I've never felt better in my life. I've been on it almost two weeks now, and have lost over 3 pounds, all from my waist, that I'd never been able to lose before no matter how much I biked. I have far more energy for bicycling than I previously had, and my physical condition has greatly improved. I require less sleep and am less tired than I was before. I know my next blood test will be next to perfect. I'm on the Zone for life. It's simple, the basic principles to follow are summarized in five sentences. I've never really "dieted" before, just modified my food choices and behavior. Unfortunately, I'd been doing it all wrong. Now I know what's right, thankfully not too late.

Summary: A way of life forever!!
Review: I have struggled with weight control for some time now. A very good friend recommended "Mastering the Zone" and as soon as I picked it up I was able to begin the program. I learned a great deal about how food intake dictates your stamina. I will never go back to eating my old way. I wake up every morning and with each meal, I'm in the Zone and I feel great!!! Thanky Barry Sears for changing my life toward super health!!

Summary: Mastering The Zone works - a must read for healthy living
Review: I read Mastering The Zone with caution, not sure what to expect. After all, the context is exceedingly easy to follow and could be described as common sense. However, the fascinating part about this book is the simplistic approach to balancing your daily food intake and becoming aware of how much protein, carbohydrates and fat you are eating. Once you decide to pay attention to this diet and it's recommendations, you will have no trouble staying on track. In fact, the most difficult part about staying in the zone is eating all of the food!! I am so pleased with the book and the changes it has made to my everyday wellness and energy level! READ THE BOOK NOW!

Summary: Something additional to think about
Review: I have been doing the Zone diet (sometimes more, sometimes less) for a year and a half now. I feel much better than I used to, and more alert. But I also began to notice that sometimes I felt better than other times with meals that were supposed to put me in the 'Zone'. In Sears' "Mastering the Zone", he discusses keeping track of which meals work for you (by gauging your hormonal reaction to them), but I find this approach a little hit-and-miss. And so I started looking around for some other ideas. This is when I found "Eat Right For Your Type" by Dr. D'Adamo, who bases his diet regimen on blood type. He has lists of foods that are beneficial, neutral and foods to avoid for each blood type. Recently I have been using those food lists to plan my zone meals, and have been consistently acheiving the high level of physical performance and mental acuity that I was looking for (even though I have had to eliminate wheat products from my diet). It is a whole lot of work to plan meals, but it is completely worth it to me!
